Emergency Services

Within the EU, the emergency services (police, fire brigade and ambulance) can be contacted by calling 112. This number can be used on either landlines or cellular phones.

Healthcare

Public healthcare in Bulgaria is regulated by the National Health Insurance Fund.

When travelling to Bulgaria, you need to carry a valid EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) in case you need immediate emergency treatment in a hospital. Without this you may be charged for treatment.

Getting Around

Buses

Buses in Plovdiv are a quick, convenient and cheap way to travel around the city and its historical sites.

You can pay bus fares in cash only; debit/credit cards are not accepted. A single bus fare is 1 BGN and tickets can be purchased on the bus. You can also purchase a day travel card at the cost of 4 BGN or ten single fare tickets for 9 BGN. If you wish to travel outside Plovdiv, bus fares will be different. Plovdiv has two coach stations: South and North.
