Position Title: Urban Inventory Assistant

Closing Date for Applications: March 15th, 2018

Estimated Start Date: April 9 to 20, then all summer starting April 28th. Estimated End Date: Late August / Early September 2018

Job Description Inventory Assistant The successful candidate will assist one of ’s full-time in the establishment and measurement of Urban Forest Inventory and Analysis (UFIA) plots located throughout Wisconsin.

There are two certification trainings that will take place in April before the field season begins. These are conducted by the United States Forest Service. The first training is from April 9-13 on general FIA data collection protocols and the second, from April 16-20 is on specific Urban FIA protocols.

Specific duties on the plot will include contacting landowners to explain the project and get permission to access the plot. Map & compass and chaining to locate and document plot locations. Measurement/estimation of attributes including species, diameters, heights, damages and crown attributes including class, ratios and foliage ratings. Photo interpretation to aid in plot establishment and ground cover estimations. All data items are to be taken by strictly following established guidelines.

100% of the job will be outside, and successful candidates are expected to work in all types of weather.

General Hours will be variable depending on weather, plot conditions and individual crew members. Most weeks will include at least some overtime (over 40 hours), although others may be slightly under 40 hours. The candidate should expect most days to start early and end late. Substantial overnight travel (Monday through Friday) is to be expected.

Employment Class: Full time, temporary

Salary: Wages are $13.50/hour, $20.25/hour overtime

Benefits: Per Diem ($30.00/full travel day, $22.50/partial travel day) will be paid, and Hotel (maximum $82.00/night) will be reimbursed while on travel.

Desired Qualifications: Knowledge of and proficiency in basic forest mensuration, map & compass and distance measurement.
