ZB7.2 STAFF REPORT To: Board of Management From: Jennifer Tracey, Senior Director Marketing, Communications & Partnerships Subject: 2016 ADVERTISING EXPENDITURE Date: 2016-02-25 Summary: This report outlines the proposed media plan and expenditures related to the 2016 advertising campaign as provided for in the 2016 Operating Budget. The paid advertising will complement the public relations and event strategy to ensure we are reaching our target audiences in the Greater Toronto Area and beyond, and that we are communicating the right messages. Recommendations: It is recommended that the Board approve the following: 1. Expenditures to reimburse Public Inc. for any outsourced production costs related to advertising programs as required for the Toronto Zoo brand, not to exceed $229.0 thousand, plus HST; and, 2. Expenditures with ZenithOptimedia Canada Inc. for media purchases related to the 2015 advertising campaign, not to exceed $956.0 thousand, plus HST. Financial Impact: There are no financial implications related to approval of these recommendations as the related advertising expenditures are included in the Operating Budget for 2016. Background: The Toronto Zoo set out the following objectives which link directly to the goals in the recent Strategic Plan, to drive the Marketing, Communications & Partnerships planning for 2016: 1. Meet or exceed 1.325 million visitors with a positive net revenue; 2. Highlight the Zoo as a ‘must-see’, fun and engaging experience filled with discovery and learning for all ages with a particular focus on the successful conservation and breeding programs including the first giant panda cubs born in Canada; 2015 Advertising Expenditure 2015-02-04 Page 2 of 9 3. -

We have been working hard on a re-opening plan for our dine-in service. While we cannot re-open the buffet at this time, I am excited to share new information with you. On August 17 we will launch Mandarin Small Eats at our Brampton location (Hwy#410/South of Steeles), a new dine-in concept that we would love for you to experience. Our other restaurant locations will also re-open with Mandarin Small Eats dine-in over the next few weeks. Mandarin Small Eats will be a delicious selection of about 70 freshly prepared, small plates of Mandarin classics - good for sampling and sharing. The dishes will be served right to your table and priced from $1.99 to $4.99. Try a variety of different dishes or simply choose your time-honoured favourites. We ensure that your Mandarin experience will be enjoyable as well as safe and comfortable for you and your family. 2019 Annual Report Stronger together Looking back at 2019 feels like looking back at a world we no longer recognize, but it is an important reminder of the impact Boys and Girls Clubs have on young people, families, and communities—and how our work is even more important in Felix Wu Owen Charters times of crisis. Our ability to adapt, our grit and determination, our shared mission, Board Chair President & CEO vision, and values will guide us through this pandemic. We are stronger together. Support to Clubs remains our priority. Thanks to our partners and significant funding from the Working closely with Clubs, we identified three policy priorities—mental health, child and youth federal government, in 2019 we were able to provide $7.1 million in grants to Clubs. For Immediate Release: 10 p.m. ET, Tuesday, November 10, 2015 ANDRÉ ALEXIS WINS THE 2015 SCOTIABANK GILLER PRIZE November 10, 2015 (Toronto, Ontario) – André Alexis has been named the winner of the $100,000 Scotiabank Giller Prize for Fifteen Dogs, published by Coach House Books. The announcement was made at a black-tie dinner and award ceremony hosted by Rick Mercer, attended by nearly 500 members of the publishing, media and arts communities. CBC Television is the broadcaster for the gala. This year the prize celebrates its twenty-second anniversary. A shortlist of five authors and their books was announced on October 5, 2015. Those finalists are: André Alexis for his novel Fifteen Dogs, published by Coach House Books Samuel Archibald for his story collection Arvida, published by Biblioasis, translated from the French by Donald Winkler Rachel Cusk for her novel Outline, published by Harper Perennial, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers Ltd Heather O’Neill for her story collection Daydreams of Angels, published by HarperCollins Publishers Ltd Anakana Schofield for her novel Martin John, published by A John Metcalf Book, an imprint of Biblioasis The shortlist and ultimate winner were selected by the esteemed five-member jury panel made up of Irish author John Boyne (Jury Chair), Canadian writers Cecil Foster, Alexander MacLeod and Alison Pick, and British author Helen Oyeyemi.
