One of the key factors of a successful destination is its positive image that allows it to effectively attract visitors. This paper investigates the impact of selected elements of material cultural heritage on the image of four Polish metropolitan destinations. The results indicate thathistorical and cultural heritage plays a more significantrole in creating an attractive image of a city than the city’s contemporary and post-industrial facilities. Cities perceived as historical areconsideredas much more attractive to spend free time in than cities predominantly associated with industrial functions. Moreover, the presented research results confirm a relationship between the familiarity of a destination and its positive image. These features have also been observed in previous studies. Dear Students, If you are holding this book in your hand you are most probably considering coming to Wrocław to study. And we know you won’t regret it if you do make the choice to come. The city is one of the most interesting places in Poland with great culture, rich history, a good university and – last but not least –a fantas- tic student atmosphere. Keep your eyes wide open and be ready for surprises. The country and the city have changed a lot in recent years, but you will still feel here like you are riding a rollercoaster between the modern world, uniting Europe, and an old fashioned eastern province. In this guidebook we are going to prepare you for this experience. The Jungle Book started in 2003. The idea is based on the assumption that foreign students planning to go to Wroclaw need a practical, fresh, sometimes subjective guidebook to help them to enjoy their stay from the very begin- ning. That’s why it was developed with great backing from foreign students, whose remarks and commentaries about living in Wrocław, both enthusiastic and critical, have been integrated into the text. The current third edition of the Jungle Book is divided into three parts. At the beginning you will find some general information about the history and politics of Poland and a survival kit concerning living in the country generally, without any regional, specifically Wroclaw’s, context. In the following chapter we give you a set of information about the University of Wrocław and student issues. The last section, and the longest one, is an extensive practical guide- book for Wroclaw’s newcomer. -

A new dimension of entertainment and leisure in shopping centres INTRODUCTION For the past twenty years, shopping centres have permanently become a part of Polish people’s lives, the way they shop, work and spend their free time. What could they offer to consumers, who want to spend time with their family, meet friends or have fun? Does the leisure and entertainment offer of Polish shopping centres meet customers’ expectations? In cooperation with IQS, Colliers International analysed the customs of Poles in terms of how they spend their free time across several forms of entertainment and leisure. The study was conducted in August this year on a sample of 1,000 people participating in the IQS OPINIE.PL web panel. Based on collected opinions and our own professional experience, we tried to identify the role played by entertainment and leisure in Polish shopping centres. The entertainment and leisure offer currently available in centres was described by Colliers International experts in the report. Approximately 270 schemes in the eighteen largest cities in Poland (including those that have been extended and modernised in recent years) were analysed. In addition, inspirations from foreign shopping centres are presented. Thanks to amenity of our interlocutors, you will also find in the report statements from market practitioners – advisors, property managers and tenants, on various aspects of introducing new entertainment and leisure concepts in shopping centres. -
