The students rotated through four different sessions throughout the day with academics from Macquarie University running a variety of workshops. Students had an archaeologist present to them on her own research, showing images of her own digs, as well as undertaking their own mock excavation where they had a taste of the activities of archaeologists. In addition they had the opportunity to handle a number of ancient artefacts, learning the importance of handling techniques for such delicate pieces of history, as well as getting a better understanding of the mummification process.

Lots of discussion, cultural and fun and understanding happening in this room! political achievements of women. Being in a school like Manly, we are surrounded by very intelligent and successful young women, so it’s nice to recognise their achievements and the progress of women’s rights and freedoms since the times of the Suffragettes. Bronte Nicholls and myself were lucky enough to be chosen to attend the 2018 Young Women’s Leadership Seminar, to commemorate International Women’s Day at the Parliament of NSW on Wednesday. We were given an amazing speech by refugee Aminata Conteh-Biger, who survived the civil war in Sierra Leone despite being kidnapped by rebels for 7 months. It was amazing to hear from someone who had survived and overcome such a massive adversity and listen to her advice on how to rise to whatever challenge we may face. We also got to sit in on legislative assembly which was extremely entertaining thanks to a very enthusiastic opposition MP. As well as legislative council, which slightly resembled a heated classroom discussion. To wrap it up, we had the chance to talk to three female members of parliament, who took time out of their busy schedule to answer our questions and encourage us to pursue the careers we want, as we are just as capable as anyone else to achieve.
