Before reading this book further, please read this preface. Wouldn ’ t it be wonderful if everyone were rich and no one poor? If poverty didn ’ t exist? If the only wealth disparities were whether she had $ 20 million, he had $ 7 million, and another one had $ 7 billion? Feel free to disagree, but I don ’ t see much merit in poverty. Sadly, I can ’ t see poverty being eliminated in your lifetime or mine. Still, I believe you can do your little part toward that goal by making yourself wealthy in a way that creates wealth for society as well. If you get yourself rich in one of a handful of appropriate ways, you make the world a better place. Others benefi t as you get rich, as you will read later. I, for one, would like you to do that. But how? Well, that ’ s what this book is about. There are really only ten ways to get rich. This book details them and shows you the good and bad qualities of each so you can pick among them and decide which is right for you. Then, the book teaches and guides you on the basics of each. It ’s true not everyone can become rich. But it ’ s clear to me that most people can — they just don ’ t know how. If more people knew how, we would have more rich people and the world would be a better place. I ’ m asking you to read this book and then do your part. Now, if you know me from past books or my long - running Forbes “ Portfolio Strategy ” column, you may not know I ’ m a roads scholar. Not a Rhodes Scholar who got money to study at Oxford, ix fpref.indd ix 9/8/08 4:32:50 PM x Preface but the more important kind — that studies the various roads leading to fi nancial success and failure. It started as a kid in the 1950s, dreaming of becoming a profes- sional baseball catcher and simply adoring Yogi Berra who famously said, “ When you come to a fork in the road, take it. ” For decades I ’ ve kept a large version of that quote on a note board within three feet of me at my desk, collaged with photos and notes of people that are and have been important to me. Takes decades of wisdom to get life down that simply. Pretty much sums up how to get super wealthy, once you understand the roads. Berra later decried most all his most famous Yogisms. He claimed this particular quote was simply driving directions to his home, and when you got to the fork it didn’ t matter which way you went because they reconnected later and either fork got you there. If so, it’ s kind of a Zen- like statement about continuing — like the command, “ Further ” — and we can use that too. But growing up I assumed Berra’ s was a comment about making quick, fundamental, timely decisions without great road signs. Maybe I was wrong all this time. But I still prefer my interpretation of the great American Yogi. In life there are roads leading to riches and roads not. There’ s nothing wrong with ones that don’ t, but if you travel them you ’ ll go where they take you. Don ’ t be surprised. To methodically get rich there are only ten basic roads. Find one making sense for you, get to that fork in the road, take it, and stick to it. But ten roads can be confusing. Ten! Hence the need for this book.

By definition, a Fringe Festival is a non-profit organization of performers, producers, and managers dedicated to providing local, national, and international emerging artists a non-juried opportunity to present new works to arts-friendly audiences. All Fringe Festivals are committed to a common philosophy that promotes accessible, inexpensive, and fun performing arts attendance. For the purposes of this study, qualitative research methods, supported by action research and combined with fieldwork and participant observations, will be used to investigate, describe, and document what Fringe Festivals are all about.

Within these two groups studies have found that the discrete acts of bullying differ due to the developmental phases of the students but the goal of the bullying behavior is the same: dominance.

Corso di Laurea magistrale (ordinamento ex D.M. 270/2004) in Lingue e Letterature Europee, Americane e Postcoloniali Apartheid Revolutionary Poem-Songs. The Cases of Roger Lucey and Mzwakhe Mbuli Relatore Ch. Prof. Marco Fazzini Correlatore Ch. Prof. Alessandro Scarsella Laureanda Irene Pozzobon Matricola 828267 Anno Accademico 2013 / 2014 ABSTRACT When a system of segregation tries to oppress individuals and peoples, struggle becomes an important part in order to have social and civil rights back. Revolutionary poem-songs are to be considered as part of that struggle. This dissertation aims at offering an overview on how South African poet-songwriters, in particular the white Roger Lucey and the black Mzwakhe Mbuli, composed poem-songs to fight against apartheid. A secondary purpose of this study is to show how, despite the different ethnicities of these poet-songwriters, similar themes are to be found in their literary works. In order to investigate this topic deeply, an interview with Roger Lucey was recorded and transcribed in September 2014. This work will first take into consideration poem-songs as part of a broader topic called ‘oral literature’. Secondly, it will focus on what revolutionary poem-songs are and it will report examples of poem-songs from the South African apartheid regime (1950s to 1990s). Its third part will explore both the personal and musical background of the two songwriters. Part four, then, will thematically analyse Roger Lucey and Mzwakhe Mbuli’s lyrics composed in that particular moment of history. Finally, an epilogue will show how the two songwriters’ perspectives have evolved in the post-apartheid era.

  • In Communications Elon Journal of Undergraduate Research
Elon Journal of Undergraduate Research in Communications Spring 2011 Issue Published by the School of Communications Elon University Joining the World of Journals Welcome to the nation’s first and, to our knowledge, only undergraduate research journal in communi- cations. We discovered this fact while perusing the Web site of the Council on Undergraduate Research, which lists and links to the 60 or so undergraduate research journals nationwide (http://www.cur.org/ugjournal. html). Some of these journals focus on a discipline (e.g., Journal of Undergraduate Research in Physics), some are university-based and multidisciplinary (e.g., MIT Undergraduate Research Journal), and some are university-based and disciplinary (e.g., Furman University Electronic Journal in Undergraduate Mathematics). The Elon Journal is the first to focus on undergraduate research in journalism, media and communi- cations. The School of Communications at Elon University is the creator and publisher of the online journal. The first issue was published in Spring 2010 under the editorship of Dr. Byung Lee, associate professor in the School of Communications. The three purposes of the journal are: • To publish the best undergraduate research in Elon’s School of Communications each term, • To serve as a repository for quality work to benefit future students seeking models for how to do undergraduate research well, and • To advance the university’s priority to emphasize undergraduate student research. The Elon Journal is published twice a year, with spring and fall issues. Articles and other materials in the journal may be freely downloaded, reproduced and redistributed without permission as long as the author and source are properly cited.
