(NASDAQ: AMZN) today announced financial results for its second quarter ended June 30, 2013. Operating cash flow increased 41% to $4.53 billion for the trailing twelve months, compared with $3.22 billion for the trailing twelve months ended June 30, 2012. Free cash flow decreased 76% to $265 million for the trailing twelve months, compared with $1.10 billion for the trailing twelve months ended June 30, 2012. Free cash flow for the trailing twelve months ended June 30, 2013 includes fourth quarter 2012 cash outflows for purchases of corporate office space and property in Seattle, Washington, of $1.4 billion. Common shares outstanding plus shares underlying stock-based awards totaled 474 million on June 30, 2013, compared with 468 million one year ago. Net sales increased 22% to $15.70 billion in the second quarter, compared with $12.83 billion in second quarter 2012. Excluding the $392 million unfavorable impact from year-over-year changes in foreign exchange rates throughout the quarter, net sales grew 25% compared with second quarter 2012. Operating income decreased 26% to $79 million in the second quarter, compared with $107 million in second quarter 2012. The unfavorable impact from year-over-year changes in foreign exchange rates throughout the quarter on operating income was $18 million. Net loss was $7 million in the second quarter, or $0.02 per diluted share, compared with net income of $7 million, or $0.01 per diluted share, in second quarter 2012.

Signed: Kathleen Palti 2 Abstract The manuscripts British Library, Sloane MS 2593, Bodleian Library, MS Eng. poet. e.1, and St John’s College, Cambridge, MS S.54 are compact collections of song lyrics written during the fifteenth century, largely without notation. My thesis seeks to develop responsive ways of reading these anthologies and uses the manuscripts to illumine the creative processes that produced and circulated their songs. I integrate attention to song lyrics within the material books and exploration of wider textual networks. As many of the anthologies’ texts are in carol form, a combination of refrain parts and stanzas, the books provide an opportunity to examine the form’s identity and significance within fifteenth- century English songwriting. The thesis is in three parts and the first introduces critical approaches to the manuscripts and the carol, followed by an examination of the books and their contexts, especially manuscripts with which the anthologies have textual connections. The central section investigates the songs’ production and circulation by examining textual networks, how the anthologies were written, how the songs may have been performed, and the role of memory in shaping the songs and anthologies.

Advisor: Evelyn Daniel. Browsing has been shown to be the main way that most public library patrons locate new reading materials. A genre fiction classification scheme can to aid readers in their search for materials as well as preventing them from feeling overwhelmed when dealing with the entire fiction collection at once. This study investigates attitudes toward genre fiction classification by public library patrons in the Main Branch of the Durham County Public Library system in North Carolina. The survey was conducted, along with a comparison of circulation statistics, to determine the success of genre fiction classification several years after implementation. Respondents generally indicated satisfaction with the system. Fiction circulation continued to increase steadily.
