Graduated from Fresno State University after attending College of the Sequoias in Visalia and Colorado State in Greeley, Doug did a stint with the Army as an MP in Germany. A theatrical highlight for Doug was being in the cast of "Evita" with SJCLO and working with Loni Ackerman, doing original staging and choreography (he got goase bumps every night). Doug is a delight to work with and has been honored by receiving three Ginny Awards from SJCLO, the Gypsy Robe three times and the Erma Award for Best Actor twice with WVLO. Two new highlights for Doug are his newly acquired grand piano and the adoption of Malcolm, the cat, bath having arrived on the same day. In real life, Doug is a kindergarten teacher for Franklin-McKinley School District. Where do. we sign up?

JENNtFER KRUSKAMP - Dorothy This young lady from Los Gatos has just come to WVLO after having given an outstanding performance as Fanny Brice in Sunnyvale Community Player's production of "Funny Girl". Jennifer's credits, both professional and for community theaters, as well as the many awards she has wan are far too numerous to list in the space allowed. Some of the highlights af Jennifer's career include local radio; TV station KGO, San Jose Cable television and night clubs in San Jose and Sunnyvale, Blondie's in Saratoga, and musical reviews in Las Vegas. Jennifer has sung the National Anthem at the Cow Palace and at Candlestick Park. Lacal audiences have also seen Jennifer on stage at the Gaslighter Theater, for CAST, Cupertino, and for SDG. Jennifer's goal is to do recordings, theater and movies and ultimately to reach Broadway. Just recently, Jennifer made it through early auditions for the Los Angeles production of "Les Miserables", which was a great experience ..hopefully the next audition will lead to stardom.

SOOZEE SHIREMAN - Peggy Variety and versatility describe this newcomer to WVLO. Soozee has performed with San Jase Civic Light Opera, Gaslighter Theater, the Stanfard Savoyards, the Gilbert and Sullivan Society af San Jose, the Sunnyvale Community Players and the list goes on. In addition to performing on stage, Saozee has directed shows for the Sunnyvale Community Players Junior Theater and several schools in the Sunnyvale School District. She is especially proud of a production number she staged in Akron, Ohio last year that included more than sixty jugglers, dancers, unicyclists, acrobats, stilt walkers and skaters. This talented miss has also been a unicycle rider for eleven years, is a member of the International Juggling Association and the San Jose Juggling Society, entertains at children's parties doing balloon sculptures and worked for Eastern Onion delivering singing telegrams. Her favorite shows are "42nd Street" (this is the second production she has been in", "Dirty Work at the Crossroads", a melodrama, "Barnum" and "My Fair Lady". Soozee has J studied tap dancing for nine years and credits her teacher Rodney Price for her enthusiasm.

SCOTT M, BOLT - Billy Lawlor A native of San Jose, Scott was last seen on our stage in the WVLO production of "Dames At Sea". He attended Abraham Lincoln High School where he was in the marching band and was also involved in their theatrical productions. In fact, the Drama Department presented Scott with the "Most Promising Actor" award. A student with Marie Stinnett School of Dance, Scott has shared his talents with the Gaslighter Theater, San Jose Musical Theater, Foothill College Summer Stock and Sunnyvale Community Players. The many roles Scott has performed range from Kenickie in "Grease" to Tom Piper in "Babes In Toyland" at Flint Center. He appeared in "Hello Doily", "Pippin", "Oklahoma", "Bye, Bye Birdie" and "Godspell". Scott also finds time to turn his talents to the piano and is an accomplished percussionist.

LES DALE - Bert For eight years, local audiences have had the pleasure of watching Les in a variety of roles in musicals, dramas and comedies from Menlo Park to Los Gatos, but mostly with WVLO here in Saratoga. We can thank daughter Julie for bringing him to us as Mr. Lundie in "Brigadoan". Les enjoys performing on stage in small character parts, as well as leading roles. We have seen him as Franklin Roasevelt in "Annie", Oscar Fielding (for Sunnyvale Community Players, and for WVLO) in "Sugar", Evelyn Oaklie in "Anything Goes", and Captain Andy in "Showboat", just to. name a few This talented gentleman creates his own character make-up, designs sets, has been in charge of set construction and created hard to find props, such as Victorian phonoqraphs and vintage radio microphones. A native of sunnyvale, Les is retired from Pacific Bell and currently chauffeurs a limousine, ,fitting his work schedule around rehearsal time. Elizabeth Dale, our stage manager, is a strong proponent of her husband's theatrical endeavors. We are waiting to see if grandson, Joey, will fallow in "Poppa's" shoes. MARTIN E. BUNNELL, JR. - Andy Originally from Wallingford, Connecticut, this transplanted easterner has attended West Valley College and San Jose State and has appeared in shows for West Valley as well as De Anza College. Martin's community theater credits list "The King and I" for Light Opera, Roger in "Grease", Curley in "Oklahoma", Fyedka in "Fiddler on the Roof", and Greg in "A Chorus Line". for which he won. the Best Supporting Actor award, for Sunnyvale Community Players. Martin has performed for WVLO as a dancer in "Hello Dolly" and "Sweet Charity" prior to landing the role of Andy in this production. In the workaday world, Martin is employed on the graveyard shift at the Berkeley Heritage Hotel, which allows time for evening rehearsals and performances and afternoons as choreographer for the St. Francis High School production of "Grease" and the Sunnyvale Community Player's recent production of "Guys and Dolls". One of Martin's goals in life is to play the lead role in "Pippin", as he says, " ...before it's too late."

DINA MARIE STUBBE - Annie Although this is Dina's first role with WVLO, she's not (I stranger to this theater. When she was quite young she attended many rehearsals ami performances here, sitting patiently in the audience while her mother, Joan, our music director at the time, would put the cast through their paces. From the time Dina was in Junior High, she has been on stage, rather than in the audience. Dina has performed in "West Side Story" and "Grease" for Saratoga High School, as Lady Larkin in "Once Upon a Mattress" and Diedra in "Runaways", both for West Valley College, as one of the Boylan Sisters in San Jose Civic Light Opera's production of "Annie" and as Mopsa in "Winter's Tale" at San Jose State. At this time, Dina is a drama major at SJSU. She credits tap teacher Jo Jensen, at Los Gatos Academy of Dance for making her a natural for one of the lead dancers for this show, and hopefully, for a chance on Broadway.

BARRY J. FARINELLI - Abner Dillon A jovial newcomer to WVLO, Barry can be counted on to put you in a good mood. Educated in his home town of Ravena, New York, Barry moved on to Albany for studies in cosmetology and now shares his talents with us at the Mopp Shop in Palo Alto where you find "Hair Designs by Barry". We are pleased that Barry also shares his singing and acting abilities with us too. His credits list Civilian Barber in "Figaro" at , Bartholemew in "Ressurection" for the United Methodist Churches in Palo Alto and Los Altos, and as Big Jule in "Guys and Dolls", at Foothill College. Barry is cufrently studying voice, drama and video and has a budding career doing TV commercials and modeling. Barry indicated that he felt fortunate that his professional work and theater involvement auows him to have a personal touch with the public.

FAY DRUMMOND LUMLEY - Maggie This tovely Texas trouper has graced our stage before, playing the role of Carrie in the WVLO production of of "Carousel" several years ago. Fay's performing career actually began at the tender age of three. While traveling with her mother aboard a Greyhound Bus, she sang and danced in the aisles, entertaining other passengers. In college, Fay's talents branched out to playing drums for the Kilgore College Rangerettes. More recent credits for Fay include the roles of Nellie Forbush in "South Pacific", Gladys in "Pajama Game", Madame Josephine in "Madwoman of Chaillot" with Lilia Skala for the Cabrillo Players, and Christine Donovan in the San Jose Civic Light Opera production of "Follies". In addition to these accomplishments, Fay has sung for the Miss California Pageant on television, is a woman's counselor and has written for Christian organizations. She is also studying to pursue a career in films and commercials. Fay and her husband currently reside in Gilroy.

WALT SCHNEIDER - Pat Denning Winner of the best supporting actor Enid Award for his role of Bennie in last season's "Desert Song", Walt is back with WVLO playing quite a different role. Originally from Reno, Nevada, Walt has been a resident of Los Gatos for eleven years. His theatrical career began with a small part in a Villa Montalvo Theater production of Sherlock Holmes. Since that first show, Walt has been on stage in a variety of performances. "To Kill a Mockingbird", "Dracula", and "Night of the Demons" at Montalvo, and for Community Players, he re-created his role again in "Night of the Demons". More recently, he was seen in "The Freak" with City Lights Theater in San Jose. Outside of theater, Walt does consulting and public relations work, and manages to find time to do television and radio commercials for local agencies and stations. For fun and relaxation, Walt and his lovely wife Connie, are great Pictionary players ...just ask the producers ... ROGER SPIECHER - Play Director Originally from a small town in Wisconsin, Roger's' love of the theater has taken him all over the world. He's acted in Summer Stock companies back east, studied with Uta Hagen in New York, toured with USO groups from Europe to the Arctic Circle. Educated in acting at the University of Wisconsin, directing at San Jose State, he capped off his scholastic career with a MFA in design from the University of Alberta. He was the only North American chosen to participate in the prestigious Prague Design quadrennial in 1974. He has directed or designed for almost every group in the area since more or less settling here in 1969. The last summer marked his return to acting after a twelve year lapse. He appeared as Nathan Detroit in "Guys and Dolls" at Foothill College and immediately followed that with the role of Reverend Crisparkle in the west coast premiere of "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" with Theaterworks in Palo Alto. "42nd Street" marks Roger's first time directing for WVLO. However, he has found it to be a most pleasant experience and hopes to return again soon. Roger works full time as a kitchen designer for Pacific Kitchens in Los Gatos.

MEG EBENHAHN - Choreographer Our lively, lovely and talented Meg is a newcomer to WVLO. A performer at heart, (in her own words "a ham"), Meg attended Chico State, earning a degree in theatre arts. While attending school, Meg choreographed "The Boyfriend", "Brigadoon", "Guys and Dolls", and "Dames At Sea". She also was a staff choreographer with the CSUC Dance Department and the Gilbert and Sullivan Society. Since her recent return from Chico, Meg has been employed as a program administrator and has performed with the Gaslighter Theater in Campbell. Meg credits her start in the world of dance and theater, Jill Ebenhahn, our assistant choreographer, who had a dancing career in London, England. Meg confides thatJill has been her inspiration and mentor. We echo Meg in saying, "Thanks, Mum!", and hope to see both of them again, on stage or off.

ALAN HAYDIS - Music Director A native of Berkely, Alan attended San Francisco State, the University of Wyoming and graduated from San Jose State. While in the Air Force, Alan furthered his musical studies at the Air Force Music School in Texas. Local theater-goers have seen Alan as Music Director or trumpet player in more than twenty productions, most of them, with Saratoga Drama Group at this theater, with "Man of La Mancha" heading his list of favorites. Alan also admits to being on-stage in the cast of "1776". Alan's wife, Lynn, and their three children have also been involved in the instrumental and technical aspects of the theater. For the past 32 years, Alan has been teaching music, mechanical drawing and wood shop for the Evergreen School District. He has been at Ley Va Junior High for the last thirteen years and is very proud of their marching band, the first place Junior High Marching Band in Northern California, for the second year in a row.

SHIRLEY COWART - Choral Director This delightful and talented lady has been actively involved with music since the tender age of three, when she sang in harmony with two older brothers in Corvallis, Oregon. She was a soloist with her church choir at the age of eighteen, and has studied classical piano, organ, voice and jazz piano. Shirley sang with the Oregon State University chorus and has been rehearsal pianist and performer in Mountain Lakes, New Jersey. Most recently here in , Shirley worked with Saratoga Drama Group, Palo Alto Players and WVLO. This is the first time Shirley has worked.as choral' director, and her experiences on and off stage have been a great asset. This busy wife, mother of five and grandmother of four lists amoung her favorites things sailing; "I'm a darned good sailor. ..", and oil painting, having "even sold a few ..." Shirley would love to do another stage role, "even a musical, if someone needs an older woman with a baritone voice ..."

We would like to thank a group of people who have helped us in many, many ways. NUBERRY ADVERTISING is an established advertising agency in the San Jose area. Their ads have 'been seen and heard by millions of people all throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Nuberry Advertising does our art work, which in itself, encompasses a whole range of different things. If you have seen the poster in the lobby depicting our season, they did it. If you have seen the buttons that the company wears, they have done the art work for them. We get posters and flyers for every show to place all around town and send to friends and relatives to make them aware of the shows. They do the art work. And, the very successful subscriber campaign we mounted last year was through the efforts of George, Andy, John, and Stacy. They designed the flyer that went to many thousands of homes in the San Jose Area. They do all this as a public service. And, when they asked to become subscribers; themselves, the board of directors of West Valley Light Opera were absolutely flabbergasted. We cannot thank this company enough for all their efforts. THANK YOU NUBERRY ADVERTISING!! Cele & Gene Pincus Producers

We appreciate your continued support. If you have enjoyed our production. pleaSe tell your friends and relatives. join our organization and bring your neighbors with you to our next production.

"Forty Second Street" is a joyful compilation of some of the best and popular American music of the 1930's. Most of the songs and dances were taken from, or inspired by, the lavish movie musicals of Busby Berkley. As such it is a nostalgic love letter to a glittering time that never existed, except upon the silver screen. But, if this were all, there would be little reason to present this show, and none to account for its universal appeal and success. I believe 42nd Street, set against the bleak background of the depression, is, above all, an affirmation of the unrelenting human desire for optimism. The need to believe in a better tomorrow. It is Horatio-Alger-like in its simple story of a Small- Town-Chorus-Girl-Becoming-A-Star. It fulfills all our needs to "see a sunny side to every situation." So, come bask in this positive light, as we all dance around on Forty Second Street! ROGER SPIECHER
