The snow-crowned peaks surround the valley and offer tempting activities, some of them relaxing, others a little more thrilling! In summer, you have the choice of mountain hikes, that come in varying degrees of difficulty, adventures on the via ferrata, or a try at mountain climbing. Waiting for you in the Kander Valley are not only the magnificent mountain peaks but also wild romantic natural scenery, the mountain lakes of the Unesco World Heritage Site, historic mountain passes, themed trails for the whole family, the steepest postbus route in the world and lots more. The Kander Valley is easily accessible with public or private transport; however, the valley has kept its typical Bernese Oberland character intact – in keeping with alpine culture. 9 Tip In Kandersteg’s Rope Park in the forest you get from one platform to the next by means of rope bridges, vines, nets, bridges and small cable cars. The park has four routes of varying degrees of difficulty – it is up to you to decide how thrilling it should be! Alpine culture, traditions, and customs are purposely cultivated here. The traditional Procession of Cows in St.Stephan and the Farmer’s Market in Boltigen always attract many visitors. Among the other highlights are the Lenk Culture Days in October, including a large Alpine Festival, a “Hornuss” tournament (an indigenous Swiss sport), and workshops which give visitors an insight into yodelling, alphorn playing, cheese-making etc. In summer, the Simme Valley is a valley of water and a walkers’ paradise. The source of the Simme River and the Iffig Waterfall are well-known beauty spots. Over 600 km of signposted walking trails lead from the valley bottom high up into the mountains near to the glaciers. Interesting adventure and themed walk - ing trails turn walking into a playful experience – and not just for children. You can also reach the most beautiful spots of our holiday destination on the numerous bike routes. Lenk offers various attractions for families, such as children’s entertainment programmes, a marmot and lynx trail in summer as well as the Stoss children’s world in winter. In autumn 2011, a new adventure, play and meeting venue is due to open by the Lenkerseeli Lake. An alp will be reproduced, covering an area of 8000 m2. Here visitors will be encouraged to actively discover its numerous play features, which are creat - ed from natural materials. In this way, children and adults who are young-at-heart will gain an under- standing of traditional and modern ways of life in Alpine and mountain farming. In addition, the Simme valley offers many attractions that focus on Alpine culture, such as sleeping on the mountain, working on the farm, visits to Alpine establishments and Alpine cheese dairies or Alpine wellness. 13 Winter Sports Arena and Cultural Highlights Together Lenk and Adelboden form the “Adelboden-Lenk ...dänk!” winter sports arena. The area comprises 72 lifts and 210 km of pistes. Beginners love the wide runs while bolder skiers can take advantage of chal- lenging descents.
