Vader is now more determined than ever to track down his son and turn Star Wars: Vader Down to the dark side. Luke, unaware that Vader is his father, fights against the Empire with the Rebel Alliance. New to the ways of the Force, Luke has discovered the journal of Ben Kenobi and has begun investigating any information he can on the Force-using Jedi Knights and their ways. Through the underworld sources of his secret ally, Dr. Star Wars: Vader Down by Jason Aaron After Marvel started publishing Star Wars comics again Star Wars: Vader DownStar Wars: Vader Down was the first crossover between the ongoing Star Wars and Darth Vader ongoing series, early in the storied sci-fi franchise's new tenure at Marvel. Now, we're taking a look back at this crossover to see precisely how it let Darth Vader cut loose while cementing a new character as a key player in the wider Star Wars galaxy. Having recently discovered Obi-Wan's journals, Luke started his Jedi training by traveling the galaxy in search of ancient secrets. Meanwhile, Vader must contend with the threat of the Emperor's other potential apprentices, who each seek to replace him at Palpatine's side. Making matters more complicated, Vader has learned of Skywalker's identity thanks to the bounty hunter Boba Fett. Seeking to recruit his son to his growing plans to overthrow the Emperor, Vader utilizes his newest agent, the crafty archeologist Doctor Aphrato track Luke to the remote planet Vrogas Vas, where Luke seeks an ancient Jedi Temple. Vader flies to the planet to intercept him but is surprised to find that Luke and R2-D2 have rendezvoused with three squadrons of Rebel starfighters. Just as shocked by the solitary Tie-Fighter, Star Wars: Vader Down Squadrons quickly move into a position to attack Vader. Vader slaughters his way through an entire squadron before Luke realizes that it's Vader. Deciding that the risk to his own life is worth the chance to bring down the Sith Lord, Luke rams his X-Wing into Vader's Tie-Fighter, sending both ships careening to the planet below. The story largely follows Vader as makes his way across the world in search of Luke, picking off any and all Rebel forces that attack him. Upon arriving on the world, Han sets off to find Luke while Leia remains behind with the army. Still hateful of Vader after his role in the destruction of her adopted homeworld Alderaan, Leia leads reinforcements against Vader. Meanwhile, Aphra and her companions find Luke and knock him out. Luckily, the fight that erupts between R2 and BeeTee draws Han's attention, which allows him and Chewbacca to arrive and try to save Luke. Han and Aphra briefly knock each other out, but Chewbacca is able to disarm Triple-Zero -- literally -- while R2 blinds the trigger-happy BeeTee to give the heroes the chance to Star Wars: Vader Down. Elsewhere, Leia's assault on Vader fails and she finds herself Star Wars: Vader Down to face him. Vader allows Leia to live, reasoning that she can lure Luke to their position. Leia alerts the Rebels to Vader's presence, and orders every ship to open fire Star Wars: Vader Down their location, hopefully killing Vader even if it means certain death for herself. While the Falcon is brought down by Aphra's associate, the newly arrived Wookie bounty hunter Black Krrsantan, Luke tries to save Leia. Instead, it's Star Wars: Vader Down Imperial armada that stops the Rebel assault on Vader and Leia. Led by Commander Karbin, one of the Vader's Star Wars: Vader Down, the Imperials attack, with Karbin attacking Vader, Luke being captured, and Leia barely escaping the chaos. The story ends with neither side entirely victorious. Vader is able to kill Karbin in battle, and the Rebels fail to stop him. But his last attempt to keep Luke from Karbin's forces allows him to be saved by Han and their allies. Aphra is even captured by Leia and brought aboard the Millenium Falcon, which escapes the world while Vader can do Star Wars: Vader Down but watch.

A major critique of the genre is that it simply represents an adolescent male power fantasy; and presents a world view that valorises masculinist individualism.

I fear this is the most extra thing I’ve ever done. Alongside creating the comic DIE with Stephanie Hans, I developed the role-playing game you hold in your hands. Er… figure of speech. “PDF on your hard drive” doesn’t quite have the same ring. This RPG creates, in a miniaturized form, your own version of the first arc of DIE. As such, there’s some possible structural spoilers for the comic. I say “possible” because it really is your own version of the comic.
