Abstract This study was carried out to provide the baseline data on the composition and distribution of the angiosperms and to assess their current status in Rajkandi Reserve Forest of Moulvibazar, Bangladesh. The study reports a total of 549 angiosperm species belonging to 123 families, 98 (79.67%) of which consisting of 418 species under 316 genera belong to Magnoliopsida (dicotyledons), and the remaining 25 (20.33%) comprising 132 species of 96 genera to Liliopsida (monocotyledons). Rubiaceae with 30 species is recognized as the largest family in Magnoliopsida followed by Euphorbiaceae with 24 and Fabaceae with 22 species; whereas, in Lilliopsida Poaceae with 32 species is found to be the largest family followed by Cyperaceae and Araceae with 17 and 15 species, respectively. Ficus is found to be the largest genus with 12 species followed by Ipomoea, Cyperus and Dioscorea with five species each. Rajkandi Reserve Forest is dominated by the herbs (284 species) followed by trees (130 species), shrubs (125 species), and lianas (10 species). Woodlands are found to be the most common habitat of angiosperms. A total of 387 species growing in this area are found to be economically useful. 25 species listed in Red Data Book of Bangladesh under different threatened categories are found under Lower Risk (LR) category in this study area. -

ABSTRACT. The city-state of Singapore continues to provide many new records and rediscoveries of plant species in its nature reserves, offshore islands and secondary forests. Eleven new records for Singapore and eight rediscoveries of species previously presumed nationally extinct are reported here along with national conservation assessments. The new records are Albertisia crassa Forman, Arcangelisia flava (L.) Merr., Chaetocarpus castanocarpus (Roxb.) Thwaites, Dendrokingstonia nervosa (Hook.f. & Thomson) Rauschert, Dipterocarpus chartaceus Symington, Haplopteris sessilifrons (Miyam. & H.Ohba) S.Linds., Hewittia malabarica (L.) Suresh, Phyllanthus reticulatus Poir., Spermacoce parviceps (Ridl.) I.M.Turner, Sphaeropteris trichodesma (Scort.) R.M.Tryon and Uvaria micrantha (A.DC.) Hook.f. & Thomson. To study the various modes of forest encroachment, and the role of human activities to hamper it. Location Data were collected on several forest–savanna ecotones in the coastal region of the Republic of Congo. The sites were chosen to illustrate the main different modes of forest expansion, corresponding to different levels of anthropic pressure. Methods The sites were studied on five transects perpendicular to the ecotone (total sampled area: 1.7 ha) and 10 forest clumps in savanna (with diameters from 3 to 20 m). Along the transects botanical identification, diameter measurement and cartography were performed, while leaf area index was measured with a high resolution (every meter) along two of them. Collected data were analysed using a continuous quantification approach, much more useful than the classical quadrat analysis. Time calibration of progression rates was performed using a simple model of the growth of the characteristic pioneer species, Aucoumea klaineana. Results The two main different modes are reflected in different successional ) patterns. The edge diffusion is slow (its rate is evaluated to c. 1 m year 1) and is characterized by a progressive increase in high diameter trees density and shade tolerant trees density away from the ecotone. -

Its classification was discussed during long time by many authors and with the phylogenetic analyses was proved its polyphyletic origin, bearing the dissolution in six distinct families: Phyllanthaceae, Picrodendraceae, Putranjivaceae, Pandaceae, Peraceae e Euphorbiaceae s.s. Considering the floral diversity of these families, fours species were selected to this study, aiming to sample the different groups: Phyllanthus urinaria (Phyllanthaceae), Piranhea trifoliata (Picrodendraceae), Alchornea sidifolia (Euphorbiaceae s.s.) and Microdesmis caseariifolia (Pandaceae). There are few detailed literature about the floral structure of the representants from the allied families of Euphorbiaceae s.l., which makes difficult the accurate usage of the floral characters in studies about systematics and evolution of these groups.
