ARCHOS expands content offering with popular UK shows on its range of Portable Media Players

October 2008

ARCHOS, the leading Portable Media player manufacturer, has today expanded its content offering by announcing that ARCHOS customers will now be able to enjoy some of the most popular TV shows in the UK through BBC iPlayer on its range of feature-packed portable media players.

The news supports ARCHOS’ focus on open standards and formats, in other words not tying the user down to one provider - a real joy for those used to the content restrictions posed by some of other manufacturers.

The popular service allows TV viewers to catch up online with highlights of television or radio programmes from the last seven days. Viewers can access over 250 TV programmes and radio shows including favourites such as Top Gear, , Catherine Tate and EastEnders.

Owners of ARCHOS’ previous devices*, as well as the newly-launched Internet Media Tablets will be able to use the service and catch up on their favourite radio and TV shows. ARCHOS devices support the BBC iPlayer via side loading. Side loading is the easiest way for customers to download content onto their PC or Mac in WMV format and transfer it via USB onto their ARCHOS device for playback.

Tony Limrick, Managing Director, ARCHOS UK said: “We are delighted that with the side loadoffering. It means ARCHOS customers can enjoy their favourite UK shows when and where they want on their ARCHOS device. The partnership further enhances our strategy of providing customers with the freedom of choice to download content when they want and from who they want without being tied to one supplier”

ARCHOS owners can transfer content from BBC iPlayer for seven days after transmission, with 30 days in which to watch the programme. From the point when users click to view, they will then have seven days to watch the programme.

ARCHOS’ popular range of Internet Media Tablets offer instant access to the internet, email, TV and video content, music, photos and games, and support multiple file formats, allowing ARCHOS users access to a huge range of content from a variety of providers.

The newly-launched Internet Media Tablets, the 5, 5G and 7, offer uncompromised web viewing and email access on a superb quality 5** or 7 inch touchscreen.

The format of the content file will be WMV, which is supported across the ARCHOS range; this means that the content will work on previous ARCHOS models as well as the new Internet Media Tablets.

* WMV-supported devices only ** actual size 4.8”
