The French Embassy in Ireland and the Irish Film Institute present the 13th IFI French Film Festival, which will take place from 14th to 25th November 2012.

This year’s exiting programme brings you the very best of contemporary French cinema.

Juliette Binoche is set to be one of the star attractions at the IFI French Film Festival 2012, which also includes the Irish premiere of ’s Cannes Palme d’Or- winning Love (Amour); winner of the 2012 Jean Prix Vigo, Atomic Age (with Director Héléna Klotz in attendance); and a guest appearance by the iconic actress Béatrice Dalle, who will introduce her new film Bye Bye Blondie, as well as her career-defining French classic Betty Blue.

Don't miss this unique celebration of French cinema with 20 Irish premieres, a wealth of visiting special guests including Juliette Binoche, Béatrice Dalle, Benoit Jacquot, Reba Kateb, Héléna Klotz and Alice de Lencquesaing, the First-Time Director’s strand and a continuing celebration of 50 years of the iconic production company Les Films de Losange.

SCIENCE EXHIBITION “SCIENCE/FICTION: A JOURNEY IN THE HEART OF LIFE ” 1-30 NOVEMBER 2012

The French Embassy in Ireland, in partnership with the Institute of Technology Tallaght presents the exhibition "Science/Fiction: a journey in the heart of life" for the full month of November 2012. From living organisms, observed at the microscopic level. And from the work of France’s most visionary writer, Jules Verne. The panels on display are a superimposition of scientific photographs from the Inserm image bank and old engravings illustrating the writings of Jules Verne. These striking images are the creation of Eric Dehausse, an iconographer at Inserm.

CINEMA THE JUNIOR GALWAY FILM FLEADH 7-10 NOVEMBER 2012

The Junior Galway Film Fleadh French Film this year is « » (Le Gamin au vélo). This most recent film from the Dardenne brothers is a deserving winner of the Grande Prix at 2011. A short French language film is screened beforehand « Un Peu Plus » (A Little More) by Conor Ferguson.

CONFERENCE THE FRENCH BOOK AND DUBLIN LIBRARIES, 1450-1750 8-10 NOVEMBER 2012

This conference brings together French and Irish scholars specializing in the multi- facetted history of print during the early modern period. Each half-day session will be held in a different Dublin library. In addition to the research papers, each session incorporates a presentation of the library's French collections, and an opportunity to view original early modern material.

EDUCATION THE NEW PEDAGOGICAL FILM GUIDE HAS BEEN LAUNCHED!

The pedagogical film guide, part of the French Film Project, is a partnership between the French Embassy’s Cultural Service, the Irish Film Institute and the Arts Council, which includes an annual touring of a movie in French language along with the publishing of a study guide. The chosen film for this year’s French Film Project is “Le gamin au vélo/The Kid with a Bike” the most recent film from the Dardenne brothers and a deserving winner of the Grand Prix at Cannes Film Festival 2011.

The "Gamin au vélo" study guide, which has been launched at the FTA conference on October 12, is now available for free download. The film will be touring in various venues in Ireland as part of the 2012 IFI Education programme.
