India unveils third National Wildlife Action Plan for 2017-2031 On October 2, 2017, Union Environment Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan unveiled India’s third National Wildlife Action Plan for 2017-2031, which outlines the future road map for wildlife conservation across the country. The plan was unveiled on the inaugural day of the Global Wildlife Programme (GWP) conference in New Delhi, which is jointly hosted by India, World Bank and United Nations Development Programme. Background Information about National Wildlife Action Plan for 2017-2031: This is the third National Wildlife Action Plan which comes after the first plan in 1983 and second plan from 2002 – 2016. It was drafted by a 12-member committee chaired by JC Kala (former secretary to the ministry) and was initiated in February 2016 by Union Environment Ministry. Odisha government creating land bank for industrial allocation Odisha State Government is creating a 1.2 lakh acre land bank across the state which will be allocated for industrial use and purposes. Lessons learnt from POSCO Fiasco: Odisha Government is creating the land bank in order to avoid another POSCO-like fiasco. • In 2005, South Korean Company, POSCO, signed a memorandum of understanding with the Odisha government to set up a 12-million-tonne-capacity steel project in Jagatsinghpur district. The purpose of this paper attempts to shed light the status of women’s empowerment in India through games and sports and highlights the issues and challenges of women empowerment in the field of physical education and sports. Sport is an integral part of the culture of almost every nation. However, its use to promote gender equity and empower girls and women is often overlooked because sport is not universally perceived as a suitable or desirable pursuit for girls and women. Today the empowerment of women in games and sports has become one of the most important concerns of 21st century. But practically women empowerment in games and sports is still an illusion of reality. It is observe in our day to day life how women become victimized by various social evils. Women empowerment is the vital instrument to expand women’s ability to have resources and to make strategic life choices. Empowerment of women in games and sports is essentially the process of upliftment of economic, social and political status of women, the traditionally underprivileged ones, in the society. Today sports and physical activity as a strategy for the empowerment of girls and women has been gaining recognition worldwide. Women could be empowered through education, sports and physical activities and by giving them equal opportunities in different walks of life. Research on sport, gender, and development indicates that sport can benefit girls and women by: Enhancing health and well-being, fostering self-esteem and empowerment, facilitating social inclusion and integration, challenging gender norms and providing opportunities for leadership and achievement.

Four clinics held over the three days were fi lled with incredible amounts of invaluable knowledge. Th is event was organized as a way of providing top- notch instruction to London Curling Club members and curlers from other nearby clubs, which it certainly did. Th e event was fun and informative and also helped to raise more than $9,000 for our new facilities project. Participants in the Friday afternoon and evening sessions came from a range of ages, junior to senior, as well as stick curlers. Grant Odishaw went over the basics of the delivery, balance, line of delivery, weight and rotation. Mary-Anne Arsenault showed how to sweep eff ectively, giving insights about directional sweeping, weight judgement and ice reading. The Roll of Honour lists 290 who served in that conflict and the Scarinish War Memorial records the names of 66 men who died. But apart from the occasional fighting ship seen on the skyline, and the attack by a U-boat on the Plover north of Coll, the Great War was predominantly a distant conflict, fought in the trenches of Europe. 1. With the Battle of the Atlantic raging and a German landing on the west coast of Scotland a distinct possibility, Tiree suddenly found itself in the front line. A major Airforce base was built in months, the island became a Protected Area and over 2,000 airmen and workers from all over the world were stationed here. This exhibition charts the building and work of RAF Tiree during World War II, what it was like to live here and the effect of the base on the community.
