Day 1: [Origin] – Haikou D Today you will head to the provincial capital of Hainan Province: Haikou. Also known as “Coconut City,” Haikou is located at the northenmost part of China’s second-largest island and gets its name (which literally means “sea mouth”) from the fact that Hainan’s largest river, the , empties into the sea right beside it. After your arrival in Haikou, you will first take a tour of the city, then enjoy a meal of famous local cuisine for dinner. Day 2: Haikou – Xinglong B/L/D After breakfast today you will visit Wugong Temple (“Five Officials Temple” or “Temple of Five Lords”), built as a memorial to five revered officials from the Tang Dynasty. It is located at the Qing Dynasty-era Xiuying Fort Barbette in Xiuying Village, inhabited by the Li ethnic minority group. Afterward, you will proceed by coach to Xinglong, admiring the scenery along the . You will also tour the Statue of the Red Detachment of Women. After your arrival in Xinglong, you will visit the Xinglong Tropical Botanical Garden. Day 3: Xinglong – Sanya B/L/D After breakfast you will proceed by coach to China’s southernmost city, Sanya, known as the “Hawaii of the East.” There you will visit a pearl farm, go for a stroll at Yalong (“Asian Dragon”) Bay Beach, and do some sightseeing at Dadonghai (“Great Eastern Ocean”). This incomparably beautiful coastal scenic area combines emerald water, green mountains, white sand, boulders, and coral reefs into one spectacular natural scene, highlighted by palm trees, fishing boats, seagulls, blue sea, and wispy white clouds that complement its beauty. Afterward you will visit Nanshan Buddhism Cultural Tourism Zone, which includes Nanshan (“South Mountain”) Temple, a Tang Dynasty-style temple built at the foot of a mountain. Powerful and grand in appearance, it is the largest “Bodhimanda” (a term referring to a spot where enlightenment is achieved) built in China in the last 50 years, and is also the largest temple in southern China. The scenery on the temple grounds is coordinated with the statues, and the buildings are harmonized with the greenery, creating a serene and orderly environment. The park’s famous mountain, renowned temple, and eminent monks all complement and benefit from one another. As part of your trip to , you will also take an electromobile ride to see the Guanyin of the South Sea, a 108-meter tall statue of the Bodhisattva Guanyin that looks out over the ocean. Day 4: Sanya – Hong Kong B/L After breakfast today you will visit the Tianya Hiajiao Scenic Area, where the turquoise sea and sky blend into each other, the misty seas seem to go on forever, sailboats dot the waters, palm trees sway in the breeze, and boulders of every conceivable shape stand like a forest. (The expression “tiānyá hǎijiǎo” literally means “the edge of the sky and the corner of the sea” or, roughly, “the end of the earth.”) Some of the particularly distinctive boulders have names inscribed on them in calligraphy, such as “Edge of the Sky,” “Corner of the Sea,” and “Southern Pillar of the Sky.” (According to history, the famous characters for “tiānyá” are inscribed in the calligraphic style of the famous Qing Dynasty magistrate Cheng Zhe.) The entire scene is like a poem or a painting, with more beauty than you can take in at once. Afterward, you will visit Luhuitou (“Deer Looking Back”) Park, a place rich in folklore (electromobile ride included). In the evening you will be escorted to the airport.
