Vo l u m e 1, Is s u e 2 — Oc t o b e r 2016 A Reminder

Before you put on that pin ... Pins are great conversation starters. That’s why we wear them, right? We want someone to ask us why we support a particular candidate or cause.

Here’s the thing – When we do get that question, we have about 15 seconds to influence the person who asked! Every word matters. So, since I know questions are coming. I can prepare my response ahead of time.

Try these tips: • Make responses personal. Why do I support this candidate or cause? What is important to me about this campaign? What are the stakes for me and my family? Be specific. • Make responses positive. Talk about the good that this candidate will accomplish or the benefits of supporting this cause. Save criticism of the opposition for another time. • Use inclusive words like “our,” “us,” and “we” whenever possible. These words create common ground. • Speak in a calm and friendly voice.

One example: I’m in the grocery store and see a friend. I’m wearing my “Let’s Keep Red” pin. Friend: “Vicki, what’s your pin? What do you mean Keep Texas Red?” Me: “Keeping Texas Red is about how we can hold onto the values that make our state prosperous ... like lower taxes and being a right to work state. My brother’s company doubled in size because it moved operations from other states here. I want us to keep that momentum going. “

So, before you put on that pin ... Think through and prepare your own personal, positive response to the questions it will generate. Have those words ready to roll off your tongue.

Our candidates and causes matter. If we care enough to put on the pin, let’s care enough to make the most of those precious 15 seconds.

It has been a busy few weeks, visiting clubs in SD 1 and 2. Of course the focus continues to be to get Republicans elected. Nancy Holly, Melanie Grammar and I have one foot in the car at all times! We have said it before, but truly this is one of the most critical elections EVER!

And yet, one of the biggest battles we have is to get behind our Presidential Nominee, Donald Trump. This battle is even with Republican Women clubs!! I remember going through some similar problems when John McCain was our candidate and again with Mitt Romney. Ladies, let’s rally behind being REPUBLICAN! Make the “Plus” and “Negative” columns for Hillary and Donald. When you are making your list, repeat to yourself, Lied about Benghazi, Lied to the FBI, Lied about her email server, Lied about being FLAT BROKE Jeannette when she left the White House, Lied, Lied Lied! That is what I stress every chance I get. Sterner

Region VII TFRW members are busy doing what they do best. They are out CAMPAIGNING!! Our members and their collaborators are engaged and driving the outcome of one of the most important elections of our life- time. TFRW members and clubs in Districts 19 and 21 know that the stakes are high and the ideological divide cannot be any clearer. They are ON TARGET for big wins in November. While social media continues to be a vital tool in this election, good old-fashioned person to person campaigning is the tried and true method by grassroots candidates in the remotest areas of Texas. Successful TFRW campaigners travel many miles of Texas highways and network effectively for maximum exposure. The Mighty Texas Strike Force is active and critical to our success on election day. While traveling across this large region, I am so proud of our Republican Women clubs who are supporting our Presidential Candi- date, Donald Trump. I see Trump-Pence signs in cities, in pastures and fields, and in some stores. We have some of our own out there knocking on doors for the Mighty Texas Strike Force and our Republican women are speaking boldly to voters about our candidate. I looked up bold in the dictionary and the definition is ... ability to take risks, confident, and courageous. Synonyms are daring, brave, fear- less, valiant. This is what I know our TFRW members are doing. You make contact with so many people in a day’s time and every person should have that opportunity to hear about our candidate, Mr. Trump. Don’t leave anyone out, and be bold. All of our Republican candidates must win in November, and you may be that deciding factor who has Gail boldly spoken out for those candidates. Speak up to your waiter in the restaurant, retail associate in a store, your yard person, the nurse who gives your flu shot. Just remember, as a Republican you can “make a Teegarden difference every day.”
