  • Porsche in Le Mans
Press Information Meet the Heroes of Le Mans Mission 2014. Our Return. Porsche at Le Mans Meet the Heroes of Le Mans • Porsche and the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1 Porsche and the 24 Hours of Le Mans Porsche in the starting line-up for 63 years The 24 Hours of Le Mans is the most famous endurance race in the world. The post-war story of the 24 Heures du Mans begins in the year 1949. And already in 1951 – the pro - duction of the first sports cars in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen commenced in March the previous year – a small delegation from Porsche KG tackles the high-speed circuit 200 kilometres west of Paris in the Sarthe department. Class victory right at the outset for the 356 SL Aluminium Coupé marks the beginning of one of the most illustrious legends in motor racing: Porsche and Le Mans. Race cars from Porsche have contested Le Mans every year since 1951. The reward for this incredible stamina (Porsche is the only marque to have competed for 63 years without a break) is a raft of records, including 16 overall wins and 102 class victories to 2013. The sporting competition and success at the top echelon of racing in one of the world’s most famous arenas is as much a part of Porsche as the number combination 911. After a number of class wins in the early fifties with the 550, the first time on the podium in the overall classification came in 1958 with the 718 RSK clinching third place.

  • Quotes After the Audi Triumph at Le Mans
Communications Motorsport Jürgen Pippig Eva-Maria Veith Tel: +49 (0)841 89 34200 Tel: +49 (0)841 89 33922 E-mail: [email protected] E-mail: [email protected] www.audi-motorsport.info Quotes after the Audi triumph at Le Mans Ingolstadt/Le Mans, June 17, 2012 – With the first victory of a hybrid vehicle at the Le Mans 24 Hours, Audi – in front of 240,000 spectators – has again gone down in motorsport history. Quotes after Audi’s eleventh Le Mans triumph. Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich (Head of Audi Motorsport): “This is no doubt a historic victory for Audi. We were the first to win Le Mans with a direct-injection turbo gasoline engine and the first to be successful with a diesel engine. It’s a great result that Audi is now the first brand to have achieved victory with a hybrid vehicle – and right on the first run, as before with the two other technologies, and – what’s more – with both R18 e-tron quattro cars on the two top spots. That was an outstanding achievement by the entire squad, naturally with support from Audi’s Technical Development too, as we’re always working very closely together with the people who are developing our cars of tomorrow for the customers.” Ralf Jüttner (Technical Director Audi Sport Team Joest): “What a race! It was a hot battle right at the beginning, as Toyota was a much tougher rival than many had been expecting. It’s a shame that both of their cars retired so early, and Anthony Davidson’s vehicle with a heavy accident.

  • Audi Sport Wins at Spa with Michelin: a Double Stint-And-A-Half on the Same Tyres!
MEDIA INFORMATION May 2, 2015 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps Audi Sport wins at Spa with Michelin: a double stint-and-a-half on the same tyres! The 2015 6 Hours of Spa (Saturday, May 2) saw victory go to the N°7 Audi R18 e-tron quattro of Fässler/Lotterer/Tréluyer. After monopolising the top three places in Friday’s qualifying, Porsche started the event as favourite. As expected, the three Porsche 919 Hybrids got away to a strong start to lead the 2015 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps early on, chased by the Audi Sport and Toyota Racing prototypes which jostled for position in their wake. This situation looked set to last but it evolved as the teams started to run differing tyre strategies after all the LM P1 factory teams had begun the race on MICHELIN’s ‘soft high temperature’ compound. Toyota Racing was the first team to double stint, on Lap 21, when Alexander Wurz pitted the N°2 Toyota TS 040 Hybrid and re-joined the race 1m4s afterwards with the same tyres on its car’s left wheels. The Austrian was followed into the pits on Lap 22 by Sébastien Buemi in the N°1 sister car which went back out without a change of rubber, saving around 20 seconds in the process to hold its place among the front-runners. The first Audi Sport driver to double stint was Marco Bonanomi in the N°9 Audi R18 e-tron quattro when the car made its second stop on Lap 47.

Richard Wiley, a lifelong motoring journalist, has always loved Le Mans, Group C and especially the Porsches of that era. A sting in the tale, covers his early trips to Le Mans in the late ‘80s. www.porscheroadandrace.com Le Mans 24 Hours, 12-13 June 1954: Leading the Porsche contingent on a media parade lap ahead of the 1954 Le Mans 24-Hour race is the #40 1498 cc Porsche 550 Spyder of Glockler/von Frankenburg followed by the similarly spec-ed #39 car of Johnny Claes/Pierre Stasse with the #41 car of Herrmann/Polensky just behind. Firstly, as the son of a car-mad dental surgeon, I used to attend many motor races in the 1950s and 60s in the then Rhodesia.

  • Audi Drivers Especially Motivated for Zandvoort
Ingolstadt, 19 August 2005 Motorsport Audi drivers especially motivated for Zandvoort • DTM race at the Dutch North Sea coastal town • Last year’s winner Ekström arrives as championship leader • Zandvoort is Christian Abt’s favourite circuit Audi factory driver Mattias Ekström reclaimed the DTM championship lead with a AUDI AG Kommunikation win at the Nürburgring. The Swede from Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline wants to 85045 Ingolstadt www.audi.com increase his lead at Zandvoort. The signs for this are good: The demanding circuit on the Dutch North Sea coast really suited the Audi A4 DTM last season, and the young 27-year-old Swede’s run of success on the circuit through the dunes is impressive: At Zandvoort, Ekström finished on the podium three times in succession, twice (2002 and 2004) on his favourite place – the very top step. Two of his team-mates also have good memories of the circuit lying almost 30 kilometres west of Amsterdam: Finishing second last year, Martin Tomczyk earned Audi a one-two victory. Tom Kristensen shone on his Zandvoort début by immediately setting the fastest time of the day. For Allan McNish, who competed in and won the 1000-kilometre race at Silverstone in an Audi R8 between the two DTM races at the Nürburgring and Zandvoort, the current circuit layout in Zandvoort is, in contrast, new territory. At Audi Sport Team Joest, Christian Abt in particular is looking forward to the “away” race in the Netherlands: The man form Bavaria, currently the highest scoring German DTM driver, loves the course like no other, taking his only pole position in the DTM there in 2001 before narrowly missing victory in a photo finish after an unforgettable duel with Uwe Alzen.

  • We Celebrate One of the Great Racing Car Constructors
LOLA AT 60 WE CELEBRATE ONE OF THE GREAT RACING CAR CONSTRUCTORS Including FROM BROADLEY TO BIRRANE GREATEST CARS LOLA’S SECRET WEAPON THE AUDI CHALLENGER The success of the Mk1 sports-racer, usually powered by the Coventry Climax 1100cc FWA engine, brought Lola Cars into existence. It overshadowed the similar e orts of Lotus boss Colin Chapman and remained competitive for several seasons. We believe it is one of designer Eric Broadleyʼs greatest cars, so turn to page 16 to see what our resident racer made of the original prototype at Donington Park. Although the coupe is arguably more iconic, the open version of the T70 was more successful. Developed in 1965, the Group 7 machine could take a number of di erent V8 engines and was ideal for the inaugural Can-Am contest in ʼ66. Champion John Surtees, Dan Gurney and Mark Donohue won races during the campaign, while Surtees was the only non-McLaren winner in ʼ67. The big Lola remains a force in historic racing.
