Session 3 Herons & Kestrels Well done!

Firstly, thank you so much for sending me your awesome videos playing the spoons with Jo May! A special ‘well done’ to Florence and Freddie C for being particularly rhythmical! Great job!  This week we are going to continue with percussion, rhythms and coordination... I was inspired to create this lesson by Lucia, Raffy and Callie – can you guess what it will be…?! That’s right – the cups!!

To get us in the mood – have a watch of the video ‘When I’m Gone’, from Pitch Perfect on YouTube. It is a great performance with an underlying story of a girl who is saving up to travel the world. See what you think: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmSbXsFE3l8

Below is a tutorial for the ‘Cup Song’ from The Ukulele teacher! If you’d like to have a go otherwise move on for a more step-by-step guide! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZf_joR1Srk&list=RDNSFieUSfxGU&index=20 How cool was that?

▪ Now – we’ll start simpler - ▪ Watch the video below and follow along with the instructions. The musicians from Kaboom Percussion will guide you through all the actions to play along with the song. Can you keep a steady beat and get to the end? ▪ What you need You'll need a plastic cup and a hard surface ▪ Solo You can do this activity on your own. We’ll build up to a duet (two musicians!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5lLGU_1ox8&feature=emb_logo How about this!

Why not have a go at composing your own cup-rhythm. See if you can change tempo, pace and volume during your rhythm. Watch this for inspiration – it’s amazing! Watch right until the end – don’t be fooled into thinking it’s finished at the cup of water! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSFieUSfxGU&list=RDNSFieUSfxGU&index=1 Now, pair up to compose a duet or stick to a solo (by yourself) performance I’d love to see your performances – don’t forget to send it to me! And finally…

This school are from County Wexford in Ireland – how about we practice hard and see if we can do this when we return to school… it would sound amazing on the hall floor! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQVFRHDjlIc Have fun, love Mrs Cx
