PART –II: ZONAL AGRO-METEOROLOGICAL ADVISORY BASED ON THE ADVISORY ISSUED BY A.M.F.U. RANICHAURI, PANTNAGAR AND ROORKEE

HILLY REGION: A.M.F.U. RANICHAURI Crops/ Animal Crop stage Agro Meteorological Advisory Husbandry  Harvest mature Kharif crops, dry well in the sunlight before threshing. GENERAL - Carry out field preparation for sowing of rabi crops, use vermin ADVICE compost/FYM at last ploughing. Keep constant monitoring of pests and diseases in vegetables and other standing crops. Apply spray work of fungicide/pesticide should be done at evening time. Follow guidelines of COVID-19 during agricultural work. WHEAT - Carry out field preparation and sow of wheat, barley etc should be start in high hills region. FINGER MILLET - Ear heads can be harvested about 40 days after flowering to facilitate easy threshing. Cutting ear heads below the base. GARLIC - Prepare field and sowing can be started. Use vermicompost/FYM at last ploughing. VEGETABLE PEA - To prevent root rot disease drench the root areas by recommended

2 | P a g e fungicide. - The fallen leaves of apple should be collected and decomposed in a compost pit or spray of 5%urea may be done on orchard floor on fallen APPLE leaves to ensure fast decomposition of infected leaves or may be destroyed by burning. A.M.F.U-PANTNAGAR (UDHAM SINGH NAGAR AND ) Crops/ Animal Crop stage Agro Meteorological Advisory Husbandry  In view of the second wave of Corona (Covid-19), the farmers are advised to follow the guidelines given by the Government of , personal hygiene, use of masks, washing hands at appropriate - GENERAL intervals during agricultural operations. ADVICE  Farmers should make proper arrangements for harvesting the prepared vegetables and drainage should be maintained.  Harvest the mature crops like soybean, urd, moong and maize etc in clear weather. Udham Singh Nagar Harvesting of early and midseason variety of Paddy should be done on the RICE - appearance of the golden color of panicle in Paddy. Delay in harvesting can lead to crop fall and grain loss in earhead. Harvesting should be done keeping in view the weather forecast when the weather is clear and stop irrigation 10-15 days before the harvesting of paddy crop Udham Singh Nagar SUGARCANE - Sowing of winter season sugarcane must be done by October 15 and other cropping activities should be done as per the recommendation. Nainital FINGER MILLET - In the mid and high hills, harvesting should be done by keeping in view the weather forecast and in view of the forecast of rain in the coming days, harvested crop should be kept in a safe place. Nainital MAIZE - In high hills, harvest the mature crop by keeping in view the weather forecast. Nainital KIDNEY BEANS/ - There is a possibility of rain in the coming days, so harvest the crop RAJMA keeping in mind the weather forecast and store the harvested crop in a safe place. Udham Singh Nagar MANGO - To control the problem of mango wilt, thiophanate methyl (70% WP) @ 2g/lit is recommended. Make the solution and drench the tree and repeat it at 10 days interval. The healthy plants adjoining the wilted plants should be treated with copper sulphate @ 1kg/plant. Proper nutrition of mango orchard is also very essential to avoid such a problem.

3 | P a g e - Nainital ONION Onion nursery can be prepared in polyhouse/polytunnel in mid hills. Seed treatment should be done before sowing. VEGETABLE - Nainital PEA Sowing of peas should be done keeping in mind the weather forecast and before sowing, seed treatment should be done with Bavastin at the rate of 2 g/kg seed. Udham Singh Nagar MUSTARD - Mustard and Rai should be sown in the first fortnight of October. Rai varieties likeVaruna, Rohini, Krishna, Kanti, Vardan, Vaibhav, Basanti, Narendra, Early rai-4, Urvashi, and yellow mustard varieties like- Ragini, Binoy (B-9), Pant peeli Sarso-1 should be selected for sowing. Udham Singh Nagar CAULIFLOWER - If the fruits of the early variety of Cauliflower were ready in the fields then send them to the market and the top dressing of Urea should be given in the mid-variety of Cauliflower sown in the last month. Arrangements of weeding, hoeing, and irrigation should be done. Vaccination of FMD (Foot and Mouth Disease) should be given to the BUFFALO animals. Animal Vaccinate the weaned six-month-old calves with combined vaccines of Husbandry brucellosis / infectious abortion, IVR, bovine viral, diarrhea, parainfluenza, COW gulagotas, etc. and a second combined vaccine called Blackleg 7 should be done at an interval of 15-21 days.

ADVICE RICE Do the top dressing of 1/4th dose of urea at panicle initiation stage. For late sown crop do the proper arrangements to protect the maze crop from birds.
