Position Title: Graduate Assistant for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions

Purpose: Expose graduate students to career opportunities in Enrollment Management by providing a hands-on experience within the Buffalo State Undergraduate Admissions Office

Time Commitment: August 17 – May 7; minimum of 20 hours per week

Compensation: $5000.00 stipend, paid bi-weekly throughout 10 months Annual 18 credit (9 per semester) graduate tuition scholarship

Duties/Responsibilities of assistantship may include: • Supervise the Student Ambassador program comprised of approximately 35 undergraduate students

• Scheduling Student Ambassador participation in daily campus tours, Fall/Spring Open House event, as well as other campus events hosted by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. If/when Ambassador fails to arrive to lead tour, the Graduate Assistant would be responsible for leading the tour if the student has not found a replacement.

• Provide on-going development and training of Student Ambassadors by assisting with meetings, fall annual training workshop, and spring recognition ceremony.

• Supervise Student Ambassador prospective student outreach opportunities—includes email writing, call-campaigns, any post-card communications, etc.

• Facilitate the [email protected] email inbox to triage and answer prospective student inquires, information requests, and provide reports tracking these student responses for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

• Serve as “on-call” counselor for the Office of Admissions by taking telephone calls and walk-in appointments with prospective Buffalo State students

• Assist in providing information sessions to visiting student groups

• Attend occasional off-campus recruitment opportunities on behalf of Undergraduate Admissions.

Howard Honors Program Description: The Graduate Assistant for the Honors Program will assist the Director and Assistant Director in the following ways: 1. Position Title: Student Achievement Programs Graduate Assistant

Purpose: The Student Achievement Programs Graduate Assistant position is a graduate assistantship responsible for assisting with implementing supplemental instruction, summer bridge and academic orientation, and other student achievement experiences that supports the College’s mission and retention goals.

Time Commitment: August 1, 2020 – May 31, 2020, 320 hours per semester

Compensation: $3552/semester + nine graduate credit hours of tuition for fall and spring semesters.

Responsibilities: ▪ Work with Director of Student Achievement Programs to select, train, and supervise the summer bridge paraprofessional staff and academic orientation volunteers. ▪ Work with Director of Student Achievement Programs to select, train, and supervise supplemental instruction leaders. ▪ Work with Director of Student Achievement Programs to prepare for and implement the summer bridge and academic orientation sessions. ▪ Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to implement all student achievement programs overseen by the Director of Student Achievement Programs. ▪ Participate in implementation, recruitment, marketing, training, and assessment initiatives for all student achievement programs overseen by the Director of Student Achievement Programs. ▪ Maintain confidentiality of information (including but not limited to: student and employee personal information, student grades, etc.), both during and after employment with the College. ▪ Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: ▪ Bachelor’s Degree earned by May 31, 2020. ▪ Admissions to/matriculation in a graduate program for the duration of the appointment. ▪ Occasional evening and weekend availability is required to attend campus programs/events. ▪ Experience in student leadership, event planning, and developing effective work relationships.

2020-2021 CSTEP Graduate Assistant Start Date: July 1, 2020 Supervisor: Tamara L. McMillan Time Commitment: 20 hour/week Compensation: $16.00/hourly Responsibility: To support the mission of the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) at the SUNY Buffalo State. The following responsibility include but not limited to:

• Greet scholars and guest, answer the office phone and assist with the daily operations of the program • Inform students of CSTEP events and programmatic updates via Instagram • Assist with recruitment strategies and implementation plans to meet departmental goals. • Assist the academic coordinator with the interviewing and selecting new applicants. • Assist in some programming and logistics of CSTEP events, workshops and conferences. • Maintain Google drive which contains surveys and applications that allow for measurement of program. • Manage in-house library inventory, book distribution and laptop loaner program. • Design and update all promotional material for the program (flyers and brochures) • Assist Director with managing student intake and the waitlist for potential students into the program via Excel file. • Collaborate with Director on interim and year-end report to input scholar data for NYSED reporting purposes. • Document student participation at CSTEP events and office traffic. • Serve as the liaison for the CSTEP Leadership Board and assist with the planning and implementation of leadership opportunities.

Graduate Student Assistant Opportunity Fall 2020 through Spring 2021 Paid Position at $15/hour; Approximately 20 hours/week

LEAD MENTOR: 1 – 2 positions available AEGIS (Academic Enrichment and Grade Improvement Services) is an academic mentoring program within EOP. We train mentors to work with students on academic probation. The candidate for the position needs to be available for approximately 20 hours per week to meet with students in our Academic Center for Excellence and to engage in other initiatives/activities that support the mission of the Center, the Program, and the College. The candidate will be a potential role model for students and other junior staff, someone who has a strong empathy and trust-building skills, and who may have experienced academic difficulties themselves at one time. As the Lead Mentor, the candidate will be in the forefront of an academic mentoring model we have established at EOP. Based on this model, all contacts with students will not only involve content tutoring, but also evaluating and making appropriate recommendations regarding students’ overall study skills, time- management, and other academic issues that may have an impact on their success. A minimum of one-year commitment is required, preferably up to 2 years. Job Summary: The Career Development Graduate Assistant is a part-time, ten-month position responsible for assisting the Director of Career Development in providing comprehensive career services to students and alumni. Career Coaching • Advise first and second year students on career development and job search strategies through one-on-one and group appointments • Responsible for the implementation and assessment of the Sophomore Career Check-Up initiative utilizing Life Role Analysis for all second year students • Responsible for the completion of the annual First Destination Survey in accordance with standards set by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) • Develop, implement, and assess student skillshops and events on such topics as graduate school advisement, resume and cover letter development, job searching, interviewing, LinkedIn, dining etiquette, and professionalism • Develop, implement, and assess job fairs, career expos and the bi-annual Professional Success Seminar • Participate in employer relations initiatives such as Hire-A-Hawk

Academic Support Center Graduate Assistant for First Year Experience Program Position Description Overview This position is a twenty-hour per week/4 day a week graduate assistantship reporting to the First Year Experience (FYE) program Co-Coordinators in the Academic Support Center. The primary role of this assistantship is to develop, support, and coordinate the efforts of the FYE program. The FYE program at Medaille College is an educational and supportive mentoring program for first-year students. The primary role of this assistantship is to support the Tutoring component of the Academic Support Center. The graduate assistant will also plan, develop, and facilitate ASC programming. Academic Support Center Graduate Assistant for Academic Coaching and Student Support Position Description Overview This position is a twenty-hour per week (scheduled over at least 4 out of 5 days) graduate assistantship reporting to the Academic Achievement Specialists in the Academic Support Center. The primary role of this assistantship is to serve as an Academic Coach: an individual who will meet with students and help them identify and develop skills that will help them succeed at Medaille College. The coach will work primarily with students on Academic Alert, but will provide Academic Coaching to any student who seeks the service. Students on Academic Alert are students who have earned a semester GPA of below a 2.0. These students will be required to meet with an ASC staff member during the semester.

Academic Alert • Meet with students on Academic Alert and explain the conditions of their Academic Alert Contract, which requires students on alert to meet with an ASC staff member during the semester. The Graduate Assistant will likely be the person with whom the student meets. • Under the direction of the Academic Achievement Specialists, meet with Alert students in the role of Academic Coach. Assist Alert students in identifying barriers to academic success and building skills necessary to improve their academic performance. Provide referral to other support services when appropriate • Track and record Academic Alert student utilization of Academic Support Center services • Contact students on Academic Alert and ensure that they are meeting their requirements • Maintain accurate and timely records of meetings with students Academic Coach • Provide individual Academic Coaching to Medaille students that will focus on developing the skills necessary to succeed at Medaille College • Refer students to other support services as needed, including, but not limited to, tutoring, ASC workshops, supplemental instruction, accessibility services, career planning, and counseling services • Maintain accurate and timely records of meetings with students • Track student progress throughout the semester Outreach and Advertisement • Attend division head meetings to advertise the Academic Coaching service to faculty • Visit classrooms to present information regarding Academic Coaching and ASC services when needed • Reach out to Medaille students using phone, email, and standard mail to advertise ASC services • Other outreach as needed Other Responsibilities • Assist Academic Achievement Specialists in providing services to Academic Probation students as needed • Assist Academic Achievement Specialists in the instruction of the INT 100 class for probation students as needed Department-wide Responsibilities • Meet with an Academic Achievement Specialist at least once a week, alternating between the two specialists. • Develop workshops for Medaille students that will focus on developing academic and personal skills for success in college • Assist with the coordination and facilitation of events sponsored or co-sponsored by the Academic Support Center including weekly Lunch and Learn workshops • Provide front desk support (answering phone calls, general clerical tasks, answering questions from students and faculty, and assisting students with making tutoring appointments) • Assist with Accessibility Services exam accommodations by administering, proctoring, and/or reading and scribing exams • Provide in-class workshops as needed • Attend and participate in meetings, retreats, and staff development opportunities as required. • Plan and provide workshops during Medaille’s Summer Scholar’s Program • Other duties as assigned

Performance Evaluation • Graduate Assistant will have regular feedback in weekly one-on-ones with the Academic Achievement Specialists • Graduate Assistant will be expected to draw on their coursework knowledge and is expected to regularly apply that knowledge in their work. • Graduate Assistant will have a professional development plan at the start of each semester to identify professional goals for the semester or year and how they will accomplish and measure their success. • Graduate Assistant will have a written performance evaluation with the co-coordinators and discussion about professional development at the end of each semester.

Special Qualifications: Bachelor's degree; enrollment in a local graduate program preferring in Student Personnel Administration or related field ; programming experience preferred; past participation in a major student organization (student senate, programming board, commuter association, Resident Hall Association etc.); organizational skills; strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work within budgets; teamwork orientation; strong technology skills; proven success in a leadership role.

General Description The Graduate Assistant for Student Life position is multi-faceted in meeting the co-curricular needs of a student population at Niagara County Community College. They will be assisting in the developing, promoting and facilitating of a broad spectrum of campus activities and programs that cultivate a vibrant and active social life for students and nurture leadership development.

The position requires weekday, evening, and weekend hours as needed.

Typical Work Activities: 1. Work with Student Life staff to establish and complete 20 office hours per week including weekend and evening hours as needed. Office hours should remain as consistent as possible, except when working events outside of normal schedule.

2. Assists in providing a variety of opportunities for student involvement in student activities, community service and leadership events/workshops.

3. Assists the Student Life staff in the implementation of campus activities including new student orientation, welcome week, spring week and other major annual events through the division of Student Services.

4. Promote events and activities through various marketing strategies: digital screens, table tents, flyers, Stall Street journal, social media website, etc.

5. Provide assistance to all student organizations/clubs in the development of their activities both on and off campus including programming at our NFCI campus.

6. Serve as a chaperone when needed.

7. Prepares, maintains, and submits accurate records and reports as assigned.

8. Other duties as assigned by the Office of Student Life.
