The historical acts of cultural appropriation enacted by the LGBTQ subculture radical faeries of indigenous peoples are intended for healing. However by investigating contemporary radical faerie culture in Thailand, it is found that colonial culture fundamentally defeats queer liberatory movements from within. Primary data was collected through cyber-ethnographic methods and consists of a photo archive and several online blogs and associated websites. Analyzes emerged through Visual Grounded Theory methodology. While originally portrayed as a benevolent and caring healer in works by Marie de France, Chretien de Troyes, and the anonymous author of Amadas et Ydoine, the witch eventually underwent a dramatic and unfortunate transformation. By the fifteenth century, authors began to portray her as a malevolent and dangerous agent of the Christian Devil. Martin Le Franc, Pierre de Ronsard, Joachim du Bellay, Fran9ois Rabelais, and Pierre Comeille all created evil witch figures that corresponded with this new definition. It was not until the eighteenth century, through the works of Voltaire and the Encyclopedistes, that the rehabilitation of the witch began. By the twentieth century, Anne Hebert, Jean-Paul Sartre, Maryse Conde, and Sebastiano Vassalli began to rewrite the witch character by engaging in a process of demystification and by demonstrating that the "witch" was really just a victim of the society in which she lived. These authors humanized their witch figures by concentrating on the victimization of their witch protagonists and by exposing the ways in which their fictional societies unjustly created identities for their witch protagonists that were based on false judgments and rumors.

Celebration of the winter solstice (December 20/21/22), the longest and darkest night of the year, usually begins with the Saturnalia. From December 17-21, pagans honoured Saturn, god of agricultural fertility with feasting. During this time, masters feasted with slaves. A slave is usually appointed as a mock king of the household. Throughout Saturnalia, the mock king rules and all slaves are given the freedom to do and say what they liked. After that, slaves go back to being slaves until the following year. During the time of slavery in America, Saturnalia was a major event and is still celebrated today in New Orleans. It is significant to note that the final abolition of slavery act in the U.S. was passed during the 1865 celebration of Saturnalia, a time for mocking slaves. A time in which slaves can pretend they are free.

Arguing for continuities between the 1970s Cinemattachine and prior Mattachine tactics, Call’s own publishing business ventures, and discourses of sexual education, this article suggests that the organization continued to negotiate evolving sexual politics through the exhibition of pornography. Keywords Gay history, Hal Call, Mattachine Society, pornography, San Francisco ‘Tired of feeling guilty when you go to a porny movie?’ So queried an advertise- ment for the Mattachine Society’s Sex Education Film Series in the Bay Area Reporter, San Francisco’s gay newspaper, in November 1972.1 The Mattachine Society, best remembered as a homophile organization whose tactics were viewed as outmoded by the time of post-Stonewall gay liberation, had been screening explicit sex films in San Francisco since the prior year and would soon rebrand this effort as the Cinemattachine in 1973. The venue could only be entered through the back of the Adonis gay adult bookstore—literally making the entire operation an extended ‘back room.’ As a latter-day part of the Mattachine’s history, the Cinemattachine falls outside the standard historical narrative of the overtly ‘respectable’ homophile (early gay rights) organization dating from 1951.

    The Black Mass The Satanic Mass Witchcraft Destroys Minds and Reaps Souls Coven 1969 The sources for the first Black Mass What is unique about Coven's Black Mass, is that it developed completely independently from the newly formed Church of Satan (founded in 1966), even though it was created at about the same time (the late 1960s). Instrumental in the creation of this original Black Mass, was Coven's producer Bill Traut. Traut supported Chicago based bands (like Coven), with his record company Dunwich Records (named after the town in horror novelist H. P. Lovecraft's story, The Dunwich Horror, which Traut was a dedicated fan of), which he started in 1965. Traut was involved with another Chicago occult enterprise, the psychedelic band H. P. Lovecraft, founded in 1967, which also drew its inspiration from the writings of H. P. Lovecraft. When Traut found Coven (who had been performing a shorter version of a Black Mass on stage as part of their show before they met him) in 1968, he seems to have seen another occult band opportunity, but this time, in the realm of Satanism. In the case of Coven, the main novelist inspiration was not H. P. Lovecraft, but Dennis Wheatley. Traut himself put together the Black Mass that Coven performed, taking most of the English language dialogue directly from two of Dennis Wheatley's Satanic novels, To the Devil a Daughter (1953) and The Satanist (1960). Coven was scheduled to perform together with Anton LaVey from the Church of Satan, in the October 31, 1969 Detroit Black Arts Festival.
