The exi- stence of 5 taxa is reported from Turkey for the first time, 4 other taxa get a new Status: Stenurella bifasci- aia ssp. nigrosuturalis (REITTER,l895) stat.n., Cerambyx scopolii ssp. nitidus PIC,l892, stat.n., Molorchus ster- bai HEYROVSKY, 1936, stat.n. and Stenopterus atricornis PIC, 1891, stat.n. One species - Molorchus tenuitarsis HOLZSCHUH,198l, - is a new synonym and 2 subspecies are described: Cortodera humeralis orientalis ssp.n. and Mo- lorchus kiesenwetteri anatolicus ssp.n. These, however, may constitute important safe havens for saproxylic organisms since forest reserves are relatively numerous in Europe. Saproxylic beetles are among the key groups for the assessment of biodiversity in forest habitats and longhorn beetles may play an important role in bioindication as they are ecologically associated with various micro- habitats and considered a very heterogeneous family of insects. To study the role of forest reserves as important habitats for saproxylic beetles, we compared cerambycid assemblages in corresponding pairs of sites (nature reserves and managed stands) in a forest region under high anthropogenic pressure (Upper Silesia, Poland, Central Europe).

  • Bugs & Beasties of the Western Rhodopes
Bugs and Beasties of the Western Rhodopes (a photoguide to some lesser-known species) by Chris Gibson and Judith Poyser [email protected] Yagodina At Honeyguide, we aim to help you experience the full range of wildlife in the places we visit. Generally we start with birds, flowers and butterflies, but we don’t ignore 'other invertebrates'. In the western Rhodopes they are just so abundant and diverse that they are one of the abiding features of the area. While simply experiencing this diversity is sufficient for some, as naturalists many of us want to know more, and in particular to be able to give names to what we see. Therein lies the problem: especially in eastern Europe, there are few books covering the invertebrates in any comprehensive way. Hence this photoguide – while in no way can this be considered an ‘eastern Chinery’, it at least provides a taster of the rich invertebrate fauna you may encounter, based on a couple of Honeyguide holidays we have led in the western Rhodopes during June. We stayed most of the time in a tight area around Yagodina, and almost anything we saw could reasonably be expected to be seen almost anywhere around there in the right habitat. Most of the photos were taken in 2014, with a few additional ones from 2012. While these creatures have found their way into the lists of the holiday reports, relatively few have been accompanied by photos. We have attempted to name the species depicted, using the available books and the vast resources of the internet, but in many cases it has not been possible to be definitive and the identifications should be treated as a ‘best fit’.

Munis Entomology & Zoology, 7 (1): 22-45] ABSTRACT. The paper gives an annotated list of the Cerambycidae collected during the entomological surveys carried on in the years 2010 and 2011 by G. Sama and P. Rapuzzi in central and eastern Turkey. The most interesting records regard Trichoferus fissitarsis Sama, & Fallahzadeh & Rapuzzi, 2005 and Turanoclytus ilamensis (Holzschuh, 1975) which are new records for the Turkish fauna. Many species constitute the first record for various Turkish provinces. Phytoecia katarinae (Holzschuh, 1974) is transferred to the genus Semiangusta Pic, 1893. KEY WORDS: Cerambycidae, Coleoptera, new records, Turkey. During the years 2010 and 2011 G. Sama and P. Rapuzzi organized scientific expeditions to the Anatolian peninsula in order to verify the distribution of Coleoptera, Cerambycidae, especially in the southern and eastern provinces of this country. H. Özdikmen gave assistance during both trips solving serious problems of various kind. The itinerary of the first trip (13 June–2 July 2010) included the following provinces: Ankara, Yozgat, Sivas, Erzincan, Tunceli, Elazığ, Bingöl, MuĢ, Bitlis, Van, Hakkari, ġırnak, Mardin, Adıyaman, KahramanmaraĢ, Malatya, Tokat and Ordu.
