To achieve this, we built raised oak sleeper beds to hold fresh soil, a pergola to screen the neighbour’s house and vibrant planting to focus the view.

Judges’ Comments: ‘This piece of landscaping transformed the garden and client was over the moon with the result’. BRONZE Habitat Landscapes Project: Hot Tub Room Designer: Sue Gilbert In a small walled area to the side of the main space the client required a party garden to entertain. Low maintenance was key but also a smooth transition from the newly rendered and modern internals of the house to this room outside for guests. Pleached trees and trellis work gave privacy and simple planting and SILVER artificial grass for a splash of colour. Conquest Creative Spaces Judges’ Comments: Project: The Boundary’s : Ross Conquest ‘A contemporary approach and a great space for entertaining’. The area includes a floating bench, natural basalt coping & porcelain paving.

Judges’ Comments: BRONZE Habitat Landscapes ‘A well constructed piece of landscaping’. Project: The Pocket Courtyard Designer: Sue Gilbert A small courtyard style garden with tight access and no front space to work in. This project created many challenges. A simple layout with a seating area and a summer house to relax in were the main design features. The summer house and Cedar trellis were designed to achieve brief but also to detract from the ugly high behind. A small porcelain patio and planters flowed along the ground and up the in neat lines creating a formal look to the paving. The modern design of the seating area blending seamlessly with the more classic feel of the summer house. Minimalistic planting of shaded plants with bright colours created vibrant flashes of interest which popped from the darker paving.

GOLD Brockstone Landscape Construction Project: Sunnygate Designer: Sally Bower We used Marshalls Scoutmoor Rustic flags to provide a pathway from the pavement to the door; this then separated the drive into 2 sections, allowing for 2 parking bays and a planting strip in the centre, which met the clients brief. It was nice to incorporate some planted areas into the driveway, as the majority of drives now are just totally paved. Another benefit of this was to allow some surface water to drain away into the ground, however – a soak away and ACO drainage channel were also laid to comply with regulations. This driveway was just 48m2 of paving, and took around 3 times as long to complete as traditional laid block driveway..... SILVER Brockstone Landscape Construction Project: Urban Oasis Designer: Dee Stewart The garden was basically flat before we started, so we brought the level up by the house, and dropped the level in the garden area – creating 3 distinct level areas with steps to join them. The walls, planters, water feature structure and steps needed to be constructed first, which proved to be a real test with regards to the setting out as the paving had to finish mm perfect in line with all the walls. What makes completing this project even more satisfying, is that although there was a brilliant design that we worked from, there was no specification involving the construction of the water feature, floating benches and bridge support etc, that was done by me and my team, meaning there were many little, and large details we had to address along the way.
