Deans9-16 Estate Preview.Pdf ABOUT ESTATE JEWELRY TERMS ESTATE JEWELRY By definion, estate jewelry is any item that has had one or more previous owners. Pieces may be two months old or two hundred years old. They may come from estate selements, banks, aucons, anque dealers, or other private owners, to name just a few sources. VINTAGE JEWELRY Jewelry described as 'vintage' speaks of the era in which it was produced, and exhibits the best of the qualies associated with that era. For a piece of jewelry in our collecon to be considered ‘vintage’ it must be at least 25 years old. (Because the term is somewhat subjecve, some dealers set the standard at 20 years old). Today, jewelry made as recently as 1988 (gasp!) can be classified as Vintage as it falls within the 25 year old parameter ANTIQUE JEWELRY We consider as anque jewelry any item that we can idenfy by style or crasmanship to be at least 100 years old. We also use the U.S. Customs Service ruling as a standard for determining duty‐free status on any Imported piece (must be over 100 years old). PERIOD JEWELRY “Period jewelry” is a general and fluid term used to describe pieces that are usually hand craed and old, but at a given me, not yet old enough to be considered anque. Today, items that might be described as ‘period jewelry’ included pieces from the Art Deco, Retro and Modern Vintage periods. REPLICA JEWELRY Replicas are Items that are hand craed recreaons of specific pieces, usually anque and somemes recognizable or even famous. Replica materials and crasmanship emulate the original, so making replicas is labor intensive and usually expensive. Replica sengs are oen created to hold estate – or even anque diamonds and gemstones. MOTIF JEWELRY Jewelry items described as ‘mof’ are newly manufactured recreaons that are designed to feature the characteriscs of a specific period or style. In today’s market, mof collecons featuring recreaons of Art Deco and Art Nouveau jewelry looks are especially popular.     Report from Israel Kibbutz Ketura, January 7, 2016 Are you someone who follows Israeli news on a regular basis (not from the Times, but from Israel itself)? If so, you might find my reports out of sync with what you read in those news releases (though certainly not in contradiction to it). I for one try to read three Israeli news outlets every day, including editorials. I can’t imagine going a single day without that information. But what I’m trying to convey to you in these blogs are our group’s experiences with people and institutions on the ground, not our reaction to the day’s legislation or major events. We designed our trip around people, not sites (or do I mean “sights”?). We have spent our precious time with individuals and groups who are plying their own quirky version of the famous Israeli “start-up nation” concept. Our speakers are not in high-tech (though some of them actually are, in a way). They are “start-up” in the sense that they are pushing the envelope of Israeli society to make desperately needed social or environmental change. And they are blowing our minds at each and every stop. First, I must mention Daniel, who is our participant Grace Rapkin’s nephew. (By the way, the running joke on the tour is that each of us actually ran into someone in Israel who was not a relative of Grace’s!) Daniel is a baal teshuvah. He finished college and came to Israel to join a haredi (ultra-Orthodox) community.

These included Erica Brown, one of the co-chairs of the search committee that helped to bring Rabbi Weinberg to us, who served as master of ceremonies.
