BROOKLYN PARK | CRYSTAL | ROBBINSDALE | GOLDEN VALLEY | MINNEAPOLIS Tracking the Blue Line Extension Issue 2 | May 2015 www.BlueLineExt.org A new, narrower plan proposed for West Broadway’s reconstruction with LRT Changes made in the last year to the design of the West Broadway Avenue reconstruction project including LRT in Brooklyn Park narrow the overall width significantly, lessening the impact on adjacent properties. The Metropolitan Council and Hen- nepin County are working together to reconstruct the road itself and install a center-running light rail line that would be an extension of the METRO Blue Line in Minneapolis. “The plan has changed dramatically,” Brooklyn Park Mayor Jeff Lunde told residents at a City Council meeting on April 28, referring to the engineer- ing work that’s been done to minimize impacts. In 2014, Hennepin County presented a redesign of West Broadway in Brooklyn Park that would have required taking many residences along the road. The city asked engineers to modify the de- sign to minimize impacts to residences and businesses. Earlier this year, Metropolitan Council and Hennepin County engineers began working together on a design for West Broadway that includes both a rede- signed roadway and the proposed Blue Top: A METRO Blue Line light rail train passes through a residential area near the Line Extension LRT Project. • Northstar Commuter Rail Extension Feasibility Assessment: Summary
Office of Freight and Commercial Vehicle Operations 395 John Ireland Blvd. St. Paul, MN 55155 7/31/2020 Northstar Commuter Rail Extension Feasibility Assessment An assessment of the feasibility to extend Northstar commuter rail service to St. Cloud was conducted by MnDOT and Metro Transit at the direction of the Minnesota State legislature during its 2019 session. This included evaluation of capital and service costs. Ridership forecasting was not included. Background Northstar Commuter Rail began operation in 2009 between downtown Minneapolis and Big Lake, serving seven stations (Target Field, Fridley, Coon Rapids, Anoka, Elk River, Big Lake) with six morning and six afternoon rush hour trains on weekdays; three trains each direction on Saturdays, Sundays and Holiday; special trains for each Minnesota Twins Game at Target Field and other special events. In October 2019, ridership averaged 2,550 on weekdays, 260 on Saturdays, and 166 on Sundays. Twins Game day ridership increased 800-1,000 over the average. Total project cost was $308.5 million. In 2010, Metro Transit and the Northstar Corridor Development Authority (NCDA) evaluated the potential for extending commuter rail to St. Cloud. At that time the findings in capital, operating cost, infrastructure constraints and limited ridership led to a recommendation of deferring further development of rail service extension. The following criteria were identified as needed to trigger re-evaluation: • Ridership: >4,500 average daily Phase I and Northstar Link boardings: As the economy recovers, if average daily Phase I ridership grows closer to initial projections and Northstar Link continues to grow, project reevaluation may be justified.

  • City Manager
The City of Fridley, Minnesota Invites your interest in the position of CITY MANAGER ABOUT THE CITY OF FRIDLEY www.ci.fridley.mn.us The Community The City of Fridley is a first-ring suburban community with an estimated 2010 population of 27,398. The City is located 10 minutes north of downtown Minneapolis and 25 minutes northwest of downtown St. Paul. Incorporated in July of 1949, Fridley covers 10 square miles of area and is home to some of the most important industries in the Midwest, nation, and the world. An industrial spine around the rail corridor has served the City well and has provided the City with nearly as many jobs as the number of citizens who re- side in the community. Fridley is home to the largest number of employees in Anoka County. Fridley is home to the world headquarters of Medtronic Inc., and its major employers include BAE Systems (formerly United Defense); Cummins; Unity Medical Center, part of the Allina Healthcare system; Minco Products, Inc; and Kurt Manufacturing Company. Both Minneapolis and St. Paul draw their municipal water supplies from the Mississippi River at Fridley. Fridley’s Early History The post-European/American settlement history of Fridley begins with the construction of the Red River Ox Cart Trail in 1844, which traveled through Minnesota Territory from Minnesota to North Dakota. The road was used to transport furs to the south and other various supplies to the Red River Valley settlers in the north. In 1847, John Banfill became the first settler in the area, which was known at the time as Manomin, which means “wild river.” It comprised the modern-day municipalities of Columbia Heights, Frid- 1 Fridley, Minnesota ley, (History continued from page 1) Hilltop, and Spring Lake Park.
