Roopu a Iwi Trust Foreword Tēnā koutou kātoa I am pleased to present the Maraenui Housing Needs Assessment Report. The incentive of this project began over three years ago when the social housing structure began to change and to this point is still evolving. The detailed report makes a number of recommendations outlining the possibilities for the large green spaces that is now visible throughout the suburb. Maraenui is located in a provincial town where the emphasis on the Auckland housing market means little to those that reside or have a passion for the suburb. A housing forum aptly named Huarahi Aratika (Pathways Moving Forward) was established as an opportunity to address, design, and develop initiatives that would support Maraenui through these changes and at best it could be collective impact in theory. Although Huarahi Aratika is still in its infancy there is room to capitalise on a community approach of a shared vision for Maraenui. This is the 3rd report in as many years and it is becoming increasingly apparent that we need to action a number of recommendations. Financially the support has to come from government to make this happen as you can only rely on goodwill from the community for so long. It is our intention that this report lays the base for the suburb of the future “Maraenui.” Maureen Mua CEO – Roopu a Iwi Trust Maraenui Housing Needs Assessment Opus International Consultants Ltd
