ATPL Plus ATPL Plus 2007 (ATPL+ 2007) is a set of extensions to the base TOGAF 8.1.1 plugins described by the ATPL. With ATPL+ 2007, end users will gain the following features and capabilities: • Consistent specification of the ADM as a set of fine grained tasks (assignable to individuals in a work breakdown structure) with clearly specified input and output work products • Tasks grouped into reusable process patterns • Consistent specification of work products (deliverables and artifacts) and relationships amongst them • Clear specification of EA roles, which tasks they participate in, and which work products they work with • Configuration of ADM method content (tasks, work products, roles) into an agile, iterative lifecycle • Easier and more consistent approach to tailoring TOGAF for an organization ATPL+ also provides a stable, consistent platform for integrating the ADM lifecycle into other processes such as the IBM Rational Unified Process (RUP), the Telelogic Harmony processes and others (DSDM, OpenUP), as well as adding guidance for using EA tools such as Telelogic System Architect and Sparx Enterprise Architect.

Customizing the ATPL Licensees of the APG TOGAF 2007 Process Library can customize it to create their own versions of TOGAF. Using the EPF Composer tool (an open source, freely available tool), organizations can extend ATPL method content and method configurations to represent their tailoring of TOGAF and enterprise architecture. For example, with the ATPL and EPF Composer, an organization can: • Change names of TOGAF phases, activities, and deliverables • Add organization specific content (phases, activities, deliverables, guidelines, examples) • Integrate TOGAF with other lifecycles such as RUP, ITIL, and PMI • Integrate TOGAF with organization specific processes • Add domain specific content related to financial services, telecommunications, healthcare, manufacturing, systems engineering, government, and defense, for example • Add technology specific content such as service oriented architecture (SOA), system platforms (IBM, HP, Microsoft, Sun, etc) and package platforms (SAP, Oracle, etc) • Add tool specific content for products from companies such as Telelogic, MEGA, IBM Rational, Sparx, Metis, and Troux • Provide collaborative Wiki based environment for discussing and evolving use of processes on real projects † • Enable translation and localization of method content into different languages ‡ Please contact APG Sales for more details on how to license the ATPL for internal use, including volume discounts and site licenses. APG’s experience helping organizations adopt new processes and practices, combined with contributions to standards such as TOGAF, SPEM, and EPF, allows APG to provide a proven set of best practices for successful process adoption. • Strategic Alignment and Planning This activity consists of meeting with executive management and sponsors to understand business drivers, expected objectives, necessary requirements, and relevant constraints for the enterprise architecture practice. ATPL Highlights The following sections provide a brief overview of what you will find when browsing the published ATPL website (which can be found and downloaded at www.aprocessgroup.com/togaf/published ).
Process Explorer The Process Explorer is the tree view browser on the left hand side of the published website. The ATPL is structured into the same four parts as the official TOGAF specification (one part per tab), plus two additional views (see below). • Start • Intro (Part I: Introduction) • ADM (Part II: Architecture Development Method) • Continuum (Part III: Enterprise Continuum) • Resources (Part IV: The Resource Base) • Lifecycle Start This view contains several elements that provide an overview of the ATPL and this website. By clicking on the Start tab (which is displayed by default), you can view this page as well as read about the TOGAF 8 Process Model and EPF Composer (the tool used to build the ATPL), and view the Terms of Use and End-User License Agreement . See Figure 2. Part I: Introduction This view contains several elements to get you going with TOGAF. See Figure 3. • Expand Chapter 1: Introduction to view some FAQs describing what TOGAF is about. • Expand Chapter 2: TOGAF as an Enterprise Architecture Framework to view content that describes where TOGAF fits into your organization. Part II: Architecture Development Method (ADM) This view shows Chapter 3 through Chapter 16, which describes the Architecture Development Method (ADM). See Figure 4 through Figure 7.
