I-66 Outside the Beltway Project Lane Closures and Traffic Changes Weekend Reminders for September 24-25 Planned Closures for the Week of September 26, 2021 Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project construction continues throughout the corridor during daytime and overnight hours as weather conditions allow. Significant Upcoming Traffic Impacts During the overnight hours of September 26 – October 1, Stringfellow Road at I-66 will be reduced to one travel lane in each direction. During the overnight hours of September 29, from 1 a.m. to 4:30 a.m., I- 66 West will be closed at Route 50 for a traffic shift. During the weekend of October 1-3, Nutley Street North and South over I-66 will be shifted to a new temporary traffic pattern. Rebuilt loop ramps from Nutley Street South to I-66 East and from Nutley Street North to I-66 West will reopen as part of the changes. Overnight ramp closures are planned at the following I-66 interchanges: 495 Express Lanes, Nutley Street, Route 50, Monument Drive, Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway), Stringfellow Road, and Route 28. Current Construction Activities Bridge beam installation for a new flyover ramp at the I-66/I-495 Interchange Traffic shifts to permanent general purpose lanes on I-66 East and West in Fairfax County Small charge blasting at the Route 28 Interchange Paving on I-66 East and West in Prince William County, Centreville, Oakton, and Vienna Constructing bridge foundations at Route 28, Waples Mill Road, Jermantown Road, and I-495 Bridge deck work for expanded bridges over University Boulevard, Bull Run, Cub Run, and Compton Road Bridge deck work for new bridges at Route 50, Jermantown Road, Gallows Road, and I-66 bridges over I-495 Relocating underground utilities along I-66 East and West Earthwork and drainage along I-66 East and West Constructing retaining walls and noise walls along I-66 and Route 28 Corridor-wide roadway maintenance as needed The Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project will add express lanes stretching 22.5 miles from the Capital Beltway to Route 29 (Lee Highway) in Gainesville, rebuild major interchanges along the I-66 corridor, create thousands of new park and ride spaces, and expand trail options for cyclists and pedestrians. Route 29 North and South from University Boulevard to Heathcote Boulevard Monday, September 27, through Friday, October 1: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. One lane will be closed for roadway construction. I-66 East from Groveton Road to Bull Run Drive Sunday, September 26, through Thursday, September 30: 8:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. Two lanes will be closed for survey work. I-66 West from Groveton Road to Route 234 Bypass (Prince William Parkway) Monday, September 27, through Saturday, October 2: 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The left travel lane will be closed for paving. I-66 East and West from Route 29 Gainesville to Cub Run Daily through Thursday, September 30: Eastbound 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m./Westbound 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. One lane will be closed for lighting and utility work. ROUTE 234 BUSINESS (SUDLEY ROAD) / MANASSAS I-66 West between Bull Run Drive and Groveton Road Sunday, September 26, through Thursday, September 30: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Three lanes will be closed for paving. I-66 East from Groveton Road to Bull Run Drive Sunday, September 26, through Thursday, September 30: 8:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. Two lanes will be closed for survey work. I-66 West from Groveton Road to Route 234 Bypass (Prince William Parkway) Monday, September 27, through Saturday, October 2: 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The left travel lane will be closed for paving. I-66 East and West from Route 29 (Lee Highway) Gainesville to Cub Run Daily through Thursday, September 30: Eastbound 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m./Westbound 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. One lane will be closed for lighting and utility work. I-66 West at Route 29 Centreville Friday, September 24, and Saturday, September 25: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, September 27, through Friday, October 1: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Two lanes will be closed for concrete deck pour. I-66 West between Bull Run Drive and Groveton Road Sunday, September 26, through Thursday, September 30: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Three lanes will be closed for paving. I-66 East and West from Route 29 Gainesville to Cub Run Daily through Thursday, September 30: Eastbound 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m./Westbound 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. One lane will be closed for lighting and utility work. ROUTE 28 (SULLY ROAD) / CENTREVILLE Route 28 North from I-66 to former E.C. Lawrence Park Entrance Friday, September 24, and Saturday, September 25: 8:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. Two lanes will be closed for a traffic shift. Route 28 South from Braddock Road to I-66 Tuesday, September 28, and Wednesday, September 29: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Two lanes will be closed for a traffic shift. Ramp from Route 28 South to I-66 West Tuesday, September 28, and Wednesday, September 29: 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. The ramp will be closed. Traffic will be directed to continue farther south, exit to Route 29 (Lee Highway) South, travel about one mile, then follow signs to I- 66 West. I-66 East from Route 29 Centreville to Route 28 Monday, September 27, and Tuesday, September 28: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Three lanes will be closed for overhead bridge work. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes during the overnight hours. I-66 West from west of Stringfellow Road to Route 28 Wednesday, September 29, through Friday, October 1: 9:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. Three lanes will be closed for overhead bridge work. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 20 minutes during the overnight hours. Ramp from Route 28 South to I-66 East Wednesday night, September 29, through Friday night, October 1: Midnight to 4 a.m. The ramp will be closed. Traffic will be directed farther south to Route 29 North, stay to the right and follow signs to Route 28 North, and then follow signs to I-66 East. Route 28 North at I-66 Ongoing The right lane of Route 28 North at I-66 will remain closed to provide an extended merge lane for the ramp from I-66 East to Route 28 North. ROUTE 286 (FAIRFAX COUNTY PARKWAY) / FAIR LAKES Stringfellow Road North and South at I-66 Friday, September 24, and Saturday, September 25: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday, September 26, through Thursday, September 30: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday, October 1, and Saturday, October 2: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Stringfellow Road will be reduced to a single travel lane in each direction. Drivers should expect periodic stoppages of up to 15 minutes during the overnight hours. Stringfellow Road North and South at I-66 Monday, September 27, through Friday, October 1: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The right lane will be closed for signal construction. I-66 East from west of Stringfellow Road to Monument Drive Sunday, September 26, and Monday, September 27: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Three lanes will be closed for a traffic shift. Ramp from Stringfellow Road to I-66 East Sunday, September 26, through Tuesday, September 28: 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. The ramp will be closed. Ramps from Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) North and South to I-66 East Sunday night, September 26, and Monday night, September 27: Midnight to 4 a.m. The ramps will be closed. Traffic from both directions will be directed to Route 50 East (Route 286 South traffic will be notified prior to the closure/Route 286 North traffic will continue farther north), travel about two miles then follow signs to I-66 East. I-66 West from Monument Drive to Route 286 Tuesday, September 28, through Thursday, September 30: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
