Source: FAA DOT fines Hawaiian for consumer protection violations: The US Department of Transportation (DOT) has fined Hawaiian Airlines USD 160,000 for violating the agency’s rules related to mishandled luggage and full-fare advertising, says the agency. The DOT says that on numerous occasions the Honolulu-based airline told pas- sengers that its financial liability for damages associated with delayed luggage was capped at USD 30 daily for three days, and on several occasions the car- rier actually limited its payments to that amount. Federal regulations that took effect on 6 June 2013, however, prohibit airlines from limiting such liability to less than USD 3,400. The agency also says Hawaiian violated full-fare advertising rules by offering a discount on fares that were not available. As for the luggage liability violation, the carrier says it has “updated our poli- cies and embarked on employee training to make sure our policies are consis- tently followed.” Source: Flightglobal
