Welcome to Liverpool Hope University and the Liverpool Diaspora Consultation of the Global Diaspora Network, an issue network of the Lausanne Movement. This handbook provides you an overview of the consultation, its schedule and the speakers. All registered participants will stay in the accommodation facilities in the Hope Park Campus of Liverpool Hope University, Liverpool L16 9JD. Please check with our team of volunteers if you need any clarification or any additional information. We want to make your time at the consultation most fruitful one and have a blessed experience. Do not hesitate to reach out to us if you need any assistance. We pray that God will richly bless our time together, conversations and interactions to enrich our knowledge of Christian diaspora communities in Europe, to meaningfully engage in diaspora work among all those who live in Europe, and thus to serve churches and Christian community in Europe and other countries, from where we have all gathered together. God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us.” (Acts of the Apostles 17:26–27, NIV). Theme: Christians from the Global South and Diaspora Missions in Europe Purpose: To gather leading scholars and practitioners of diaspora missions in Europe to explore the transformation of Christianity in Europe over the last century by the Global South Objectives: Learn and discuss transformation of Christianity in Europe over the last 100 years Assess the impact made by Asian, African and Latin American Christian immigrants to Europe Explore new horizons of diaspora mission engagements in Europe Compile proceedings of the conference into a book on Diaspora Missions in Europe Description: The Lausanne Movement has joined the Andrew Walls Centre for the Study of African and Asian Christianity at Liverpool Hope University to hold their first diaspora gathering in Europe. Assembled together are key 4 church leaders, denominations, mission agencies and networks, missiologists, educators and others to deliberate on transformation of Christianity since the end of the First World War. This consultation includes paper presentations, group reflections and critique by participants, networking, worship, intercession, collaboration and strategizing on diaspora missions in Europe and beyond. Invitations have been send to all registered delegates of the consultation) ANDREW WALLS CENTRE FOR THE STUDY OF AFRICAN AND ASIAN CHRISTIANITY This Centre is a community of scholars from diverse backgrounds. With their active support, this Centre fosters cross-cultural learning in mission studies through mutual encounters between Christians from the global south and north. Thus, it offers fresh readings of Euro-American mission literature and by listening to the voices from the churches of Africa and Asia. It train scholars to study various aspects of African and Asian Christianity at MA, MPhil., and PhD levels. For information and opportunities for study and research in these fields, please contact Prof. Daniel Jeyaraj ([email protected]). This Centre explore the place of Africa and Asia within World Christianity by organizing conferences, lectures, workshops, consultations, summer schools, publications, Bible Studies, and Study Tours. It facilitate networking of scholars, students and centres in World Christianity in different parts of the world. It develops collaborative research on national and international level. It also enlists Visiting Fellows of the Centre to help promote its activities. It collect religious literature – scholarly and popular, mainstream and marginal, official and informal, periodicals and pamphlets – pertaining to African and Asian Christianity. 5 GLOBAL DIASPORA NETWORK Our Vision To empower the global Church and respond effectively to the missional opportunities arising out of global migration and diaspora communities worldwide. Our Mandate 1. To catalyze the global Church to demonstrate and proclaim the whole gospel to, through and beyond Diasporas everywhere. 2. To foster theological thinking on diaspora through dialogues and consultations with reflective practitioners and scholars for the development of relevant resources. 3. To network with local churches, denominations, mission agencies, NGOs, theological institutions and other mission networks. 4.
