In order to prepare our students for success in a changing world, we annually update and revise our academic offerings. Our academic program provides significant opportunities for students to engage in rigorous and meaningful coursework. I encourage our students and families to sit down together and review the course require- ments for graduation, discuss the course selection process, and call the School Counseling Department with any questions or concerns you may have. The Plan Ahead Sheet on page 5 is an excellent planning tool to help you design an academic program that will help you meet your college and career goals. During the District Curriculum Review Process for each Department, new courses may be recommended for the Program of Studies. College in High School (CHS) offers high school students the opportunity to earn both high school and college credit in courses taught right in their high school classrooms. This program provides students the chance to participate in college-level learning experiences before they leave high school, while helping students to establish a collegiate transcript for potential transfer credits in the future. Please see pages 7-8 of the Program of Studies for a complete list of the courses that are currently eligible for CHS credit. Within this document, the Graduation Requirements are also identified for each class of students. In particular, students should review expectations related to the Keystone Exams based upon their year of graduation. Since the Pennsylvania Department of Education continues to release new information related to the Keystone Exams, please visit the North Allegheny School District website for updates. Superintendent of Schools Purpose of the Program of Studies The Program of Studies is a comprehensive document outlining the course offerings, course sequence, and related requirements for high school stu- dents. Minimally, high school students at North Allegheny must meet the graduation requirements outlined in Board Policy #217. Students are required to schedule at least seven (7.0) credits per year in grades 9 – 12. Students have certain subject area requirements each year that must be completed. The remaining credits are scheduled as elective courses according to the interests of the student and availability of that elective course. All courses are organized by Department and also by grade level. If courses are required within a Department at a particular level, it is delineated in the Program of Studies. Please note that certain elective courses are only available in specific grade levels. For example, a sophomore may not take an elective course available in grade 11 or 12 at NASH. While the District will provide the next sequential course in limited subject areas (i.e., Mathematics, Science, and World Languages), students will only receive one course in that area. Any additional courses in that subject area are considered as electives. We argue that Washington’s policy evolved from the initial loose support of the Ford administration to what we call “the Carter exception” in 1977—79 when the violation of Human Rights were denounced and concrete measures taken to put pressure on the military to end their repressive campaign. Human Rights, however, lost their importance on Washington’s foreign policy agenda with the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979 and the end of the Détente. The Argentine military briefly recuperated US support with Ronald Reagan in 1981 to soon lose it with the Malvinas War. These merchant bankers are the survivors who fled the brutality of their own countries; and although they now wear fine leather shoes and silk shits, the scent of decadence still clings to their pores. Last year they were charging twenty per cent of the principle on the first of the month. Nervous shopkeepers were easily confused into believing that they were paying the same rates as banks. Now it was even easier; a few dollars every day. But all the borrower ever pays is interest. One day the victim wakes up and realizes their mistake; and then they fold and disappear into the nighttime air. Or perhaps the back page of the morning paper. Sunday, the saddest day.

LADB Article Id: 78953 ISSN: 1060-4189 Operación Cóndor Trial in Argentina Has Far-Reaching Implications by Andrés Gaudín Category/Department: Region Published: 2013-04-12 Four decades after the events in question, a trial for crimes against humanity began on March 5 in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires that is perhaps the most important in history, in the opinion of Miguel Ángel Osorio. Osorio is the federal prosecutor in the trial of those who carried out Operación Cóndor, the coordinated repression by the civilian-military regimes in the Southern Cone in the 1970s (NotiSur, June 19, 2009). The trial for the cross-border repression will implicate the dictators of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay. It gathers and unites portions of various processes opened between 2008 and 2012 and includes the cases of 106 victims of Operación Cóndor. The largest number of victims are Uruguayans (48), followed by Paraguayans, Chileans, and Bolivians killed or disappeared in Argentina, but always with the participation of military or police in their country of origin.
