Moving Metal: for Jewelers Instructor: Joanne M Hernández [email protected]

We will learn and practice throughout the 3 days together. Students can determine a focus during the workshop on practice pieces and elements and/or a project that may or may not be completed during the workshop.

We can work with both round and square wire in various gauges from 16 gauge (thinner not ideal) to 6 gauge (or more) in sterling , , red , yellow brass, silver. Copper and red brass are recommended- yellow brass and are much harder and require more work/force comparatively. Students are encouraged to work with various gauges in the workshop to experience the differences in time, energy and the choice in . If the ultimate goal is to forge sterling silver in one's work it is recommended to learn with sterling silver from the start. Of course, one can learn with less expensive copper and red brass.

● I will have both square and round wire in copper and red brass available for sale during the workshop in 1 foot increments at general cost and shipping. ● You are encouraged to bring any sterling wire or other jewelry metals (copper, red brass, yellow brass, nickel) that you currently own with you to the workshop for possible use. ● If purchasing sterling silver wire- 2 feet or more in 3 different gauges either round or square wire and between 16 gauge to 6 gauge. Purchase gauges that appeal to your sense of scale of your work. If not sure, then get 14g, 12g and 10g. Or 16g, 12g and 8g.
