Box 3000, Johnstown Castle Estate, Co. Wexford. Re: Reg. No. A0369-01, Aglish Waste Water Discharge License. Dear Sir or Madam, I refer to our letter of 14th December , 2010 regarding Waste Water Discharge License application for Aglish, Co. Waterford. (1) We have assessed the likelihood of significant effects of the waste water discharges from the agglomeration on the relevant European sites by referring to Circular L8/08, issued by Department Forof inspectionEnvironment, purposes only. Heritage and Local Government and Consent of copyright owner required for any other use. have concluded that there will be no significant effects and it is therefore not necessary according to L8/08 to assess the impacts. The agglomeration is small with a population of 450 p.e.. The closest SPA is the Blackwater Estuary which is approx. three Kilometers away. The Goish Rivers flows in to the Blackwater SPA. We are satisfied that the river has more than sufficient dilution to take the treated effluent from this agglomeration. We have recently spent a considerable amount of money in providing a new sewerage treatment plant for the area. The treatment plant is on the same site as the original septic tank. There are no industrial discharges to the sewerage system and therefore the effluent being treated is purely domestic sewerage and with the level of treatment provided we do not envisage a negative effect on the environment. [2] Section C. WWTP commissioned in 2008 with SLI. funding replaced the existing septic tank. The treatment plant takes a max. flow of 6dwf. and the remainder flows to the original septic tank for settlement prior to discharge. Effluent is screened, oxygenated using diffused air and discharged to the Goish River after settlement. The WWTP is designed for 750pe. Present DWF being treated is 90,000 l.p.d.. F:Groups:Sanitary:Maread:TBourke:Letters10 EPA Export 01-03-2011:20:21:44 You will see from the Non Technical Summary in the submitted application form that the sewerage from the agglomeration flows by gravity to a new sewerage treatment plant. Part of the old scheme is pumped to the gravity sewer. [3] Revised agglomeration map attached. [4] Discharge is to Goish River. [5]SW2 is an emergency overflow as stated in B.4 of submitted application. [6]Map 4 submitted with application shows primary discharge location and map 5 submitted with application shows secondary / emergency discharge location [copies attached]. I attach hereunder a screening flow diagram adapted from Circular L8/08:- Aglish WWD Screening Flow Diagram. POWER IN PLACE-NAMES: A CASE STUDY OF PRESENT DAY WATERFORD COUNTY, IRELAND A thesis presented to the faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences of Ohio University In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree Master of Arts Jessica E. Greenwald August 2005 This thesis entitled POWER IN PLACE-NAMES: A CASE STUDY OF PRESENT DAY WATERFORD COUNTY, IRELAND by JESSICA E. GREENWALD has been approved for the Department of Geography and the College of Arts and Sciences by Timothy Anderson Associate Professor of Geography Benjamin M. Ogles Interim Dean, College of Arts and Sciences GREENWALD, JESSICA E. M.A. August 2005. Geography PowerU In Place-Names: A Case Study Of Present Day Waterford County, Ireland (85U pp.) Director of Thesis: Timothy Anderson This study investigates the present day toponymns of Waterford County, Ireland. By using the Land Ordnance Survey of Ireland maps, a database was created with the place names of the county. This study draws upon both traditional and contemporary theories and methods in Geography to understand more fully the meaning behind the place names on a map. In the “traditional” sense, it focuses on investigating changes in the landscape wrought by humans through both time and space (the naming of places). In a more “contemporary” sense, it seeks to understand the power relationships and social struggles reflected in the naming of places and the geography of those names. As such, this study fills a void in the current toponymns and cartographic literature, which are both focused mainly on patterns of diffusion and power struggles in North America.

One of the most important and spectacular Cistercian monasteries in Ireland, it was founded in the twelfth century, though the great- square tower of the church was not added until the fifteenth century. It is justly famed for the excellence of its sculptured cloister and tombs. We wish to express our sincere thanks to Waterford Corporation and to Waterford Regional Technical College for their valued assistance in the production of this issue. DECIES is the official organ of the Old Waterford Society and is issued free to members. All original contributions are the copyright of the contributors. EDITORIAL Only a few years ago, the study of local history was regarded as a hobby suitable only for small and generally (but not always) amiable groups of mildly eccentric enthusiasts. This situation is rapidly changing. The publ ic at large is learning through the mass media of the potentially disastrous consequences of neglect of the environment on the one hand and of unplanned development on the other. This change of attitude is to be seen at a number of different levels.

  • AFFANE, a Parish in the Barony of Decies-Without-Drum, Containing a Small Village of the Same Name, Co
PARLIAMENTARY GAZETTEER OF IRELAND 1844-44 [WATERFORD EXTRACTS] ABBEYSIDE, a district and town, in the barony of Decies-without-Drum, and suburban to the borough of Dungarvan, co. Waterford, Munster. The district is described by the Commissioners on municipal corporations as one of three parishes which compose the union, or manor of Dungarvan, as forming with Dungarvan- West the parish of Dungarvan mentioned in the ancient charter of the borough, and as now a distinct parish in itself; and it is laid down in one of two maps of Dungarvan in the report on Borough Boundaries, as “Abbeyside parish, now part of East Dungarvan; but, in all the other parliamentary documents before us, both it and ‘East Dungarvan’ are treated as strictly a part of Dungarvan parish.Yet in the Roman Catholic ecclesiastical division, it forms a distinct parish in the dio. of Waterford and Lismore. See Dungarvan.- The town of Abbeyside extends along the north-east or left side of Dungarvan Harbour, directly opposite to the borough; and is included in both the municipal and the parliamentary boundaries. In 1832, it had 40 tenements of value to qualify for the franchise. A very handsome bridge, built solely at the expense of the duke of Devonshire, was erected in 1816 to connect it with Dungarvan; and previous to that time communication could be maintained only by means of a ferry. The ruins of an ancient castle, and of the abbey whence the suburb is named, combine with the harbour to form a pleasant view from the Dungarvan side. The castle belonged to the Magraths, and, along with some adjacent lands, was given by them to the monks.
