Pembrokeshire Social Entrepreneur Shortlisted for Prestigious Social Enterprise Award Sep 23, 2013 12:45 BST Pembrokeshire social entrepreneur shortlisted for prestigious Social Enterprise Award. Cris Tomos, Chairman of Cymdeithas Cwm Arian in Pembrokeshire has been shortlisted for a new category in the prestigious Social Enterprise Wales Awards which will be held in Cardiff this October. The ‘Social Enterprise Champions’ Award recognises individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the development of their social enterprise or to the sector in general Cymdeithas Cwm Arian Association is a Local Community Forum that covers the three north Pembrokeshire villages of Hermon, Glogue and Llanfyrnach. The association meets regularly to review the progress of working groups that cover the various categories of the Association’s Action Plan which includes a Community Resource Centre and a renewable energy project. Cris Tomos joins representatives of other social enterprises on the shortlist, Barry Shiers of Vision 21 and Tony Crocker of Track 2000, both in Cardiff, and Lis Mclean of Canolfan a Menter Cygraeg in Merthyr Tydfil. The Social Enterprise Wales Awards are designed to recognise the outstanding Welsh social enterprises which demonstrate innovation, imagination and passion for social change. The awards celebrate businesses which have a clear social or environmental mission, benefit a specific community and trade commercially whilst fulfilling their social aims. The awards will be held in a ceremony at the SWALEC Stadium in Cardiff on the evening of Tuesday 15th October. This year there are four catgories, which are: ‘One to Watch’, which celebrates new social enterprises with potential for growth, ‘Market Builder’, which celebrates businesses that have actively chosen to commission goods or services from social enterprises and categories for ‘Social Enterprise Champion’ and ‘Social Enterprise of the Year’. Cris Tomos commented, "It was wonderful to have the news of being shortlisted but I do wish to acknowledge the numerous other people who have been involved with the social enterprises that I have been supporting and helping to establish and develop. It is all about team work and mutual joint efforts for the good of the community and society." Derek Walker, Chief Executive of the Wales Co-operative Centre was delighted with the quality of entries, “Congratulations to Cris on reaching the shortlist. Social Enterprises are usually successful because of the combined efforts of a team but every team needs a leader and this award celebrates those ‘social enterprise champions’ who have made a positive impact on one or several social enterprises over their career. We have had a fabulous response to these awards this year. Not only have the number of entries increased, but the quality keeps on improving year by year. Social Enterprises and co-operatives are viable and successful business models that can support viable communities, create jobs and growth and it is great to see some of the best examples of this recognised in this shortlist. It’s also heartening to see the type of businesses which were nominated for the new market builder award – which suggests that businesses in Wales are considering how they procure and how to best use their procurement budgets to benefit the communities in which they are based.” The following day the SWALEC stadium will play host to the Social Enterprise Conference which will see representatives of social enterprises from across Wales gather to discuss its themes of Innovation, Collaborative Entrepreneurship and Finance and Social Investment. Free tickets for the Social Enterprise Wales Awards are available online via www.walescooperative.org Tickets for the Conference are also available online priced at £70+VAT. The Social Enterprise Support Project is tasked with promoting and developing social enterprise in Wales. The project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund and Welsh Government. Wales Co-operative Centre The Wales Co-operative Centre was set up thirty years ago and ever since has been helping businesses grow, people to find work and communities to tackle the issues that matter to them. Its advisors work co-operatively across Wales, providing expert, flexible and reliable support to develop sustainable businesses and strong, inclusive communities. www.walescooperative.org Contacts David Madge Press Contact Marketing, Press & Public Affairs Officer Press and Public Affairs. • Local Development Plan Draft Review (LDP2: 2017 – 2033) Strategic Housing Options Supplementary Paper Defining Settlement Clusters
Local Development Plan Draft Review (LDP2: 2017 – 2033) Strategic Housing Options Supplementary Paper Defining Settlement Clusters 1. Introduction This paper has been prepared to assist the review of the Local Development Plan and specifically relates to the potential approach to Settlement Clusters discussed within the ‘Strategic Housing Options Paper’. That paper will assist in identifying alternative options for future housing development within urban and rural areas of the County outside of the National Park. The Authority is currently working towards establishing a Preferred Strategy and is preparing a draft vision and objectives for the Plan. These will be available for public consultation Summer 2018. A range of information has been gathered about services available at individual settlements, which is set out in the Rural Facilities Paper 2017. The information gathered allows us to understand the role and function currently performed by settlements and is used to inform the settlement hierarchy for the LDP review. The purpose of this supplementary paper is to set out an approach to settlement clusters at the lower end of the settlement hierarchy. Settlements at the lower end of the settlement hierarchy are called Large Local Villages and Small Local Villages within the Local Development Plan hierarchy. (They are proposed as ‘Local Villages’ within the Rural Facilities Paper). This paper is not intended to set out locations where development can take place, but to identify a clear methodology for clusters of settlements, and taking account of the settlement hierarchy established as part of the LDP2 Review and published within the Rural Facilities Background Paper 2017. It is supplementary to the Strategic Housing Options Paper where the rural housing option of Clusters is considered along with other options for housing at Local Villages.

The amateur radio market seemed an obvious choice for a fledgling electronics company to become involved in. For a start, it was a natural expansion of the technology we were innovating at the time. Secondly, there would be some things learned from exploring this avenue that could help us in other areas of our work. Also, the challenge appealed to our technicians, who were spurred on by the thought of trying to make someone in the next country sound like someone in the next room. But above all, we got into amateur radio because we wanted to. Because we were enthusiasts. (After all, most people with even a passing interest in electronics have made a radio at some time or other.) And today, our passion remains. Whilst we've seen some manufacturers in the last 42 years turn on, tune in and drop out, we're still going.

SA35 0AH I&G Ecological Consulting IandGecology.com Executive Summary The owners of Pen y Bryn, Clydau, Llanfyrnach seek planning consent to add an extension to the rear and side of their property. A small stone built shed to the rear of the property and a large corrugated steel building to the side of the property will be demolished to create the space for the new extensions. Building / demolition work would be likely to affect bats or roosts should they be present. I&G were commissioned to carry out a bat survey of the buildings and site. The survey consisted of a daytime “scoping” (presence / absence) survey as well as activity surveys to ascertain usage (if any) by bats. During both the preliminary inspection as well as the activity surveys, no evidence of bat activity was found in or around the house. The house was classified as having low potential as (surprisingly for this type of building) the roof was very well sealed; the walls were well mortared and the verges of the roof were all covered in cement.

CIVIC DIALOGUE GATHERING 2015 CIVIC DIAOGUE GATHERING 2015 Programme & Field trips CIVIC DIALOGUE Gathering : April 9-12.2015, Wales, UK in co-operation with PLANED, Pembrokeshire We are happily looking forward to our upcoming meeting on CIVIC DIALOGUE. From 9th to 12th we will meet in the region of Pembrokeshire in the South-West of Wales on the invitation of our regional partner PLANED . Being a rather small group our aim was to design a programme structure that allows everybody who wants to present his/ her experience. We will experience the region together and have the opportunity to exchange with local people. We will open the floor by looking on the European policies and concrete experiences. We will work in a "market place" of initiatives to learn from each other in a lively way and to grasp an idea what the European dimension of Civic Dialogue means in practice. We will enter the "world cafe" and develop strategies for next steps. Gathering Information International Sustainable Buffet : All participants are invited to contribute a speciality from their region for our international sustainable buffet that will be offered on Friday evening. Market of initiatives : During our "market of initiatives" we offer you the opportunity to share your project/experience with other participants in a "market place" (with tables to put posters, leaflet etc.) and also to make a brief presentation of your initiative. We ask all participants who want to present their activities during the market place to send a short summary of their presentation. We will distribute this summary among all participants.
