15th Sunday in Mass Intentions for the Week Ordinary Time MONDAY - July 12 ~ Weekday Maybe the work is best left to the professionals. That’s TUESDAY - July 13 ~ St. Henry how many people 8:30 AM Fr. Diago D’Souza view the preaching Live Stream of Rosary, 7:30pm of the Gospel. That’s the stuff priests, religious, deacons, lay ministers, and other professional WEDNESDAY - July 14 ~ St. Kateri Tekakawitha Church people do. It has little to do with me. Well, 8:30 AM Steve Vitanza, Nousak Sisters that’s not really true. The fact of the matter is that preaching the Gospel has everything to do with you, THURSDAY - July 15 ~ St. Bonaventure with all of us who are baptized members of the Body 8:30 AM Jim Horgan, Carol Horgan of Christ. Nobody gets off the hook from that job. The question is, however, how do we do it? Well, there’s FRIDAY– July 16 ~ Our Lady of Mount Carmel a safe way, which many choose, to preach the 8:30 AM Theresa Davison, Tom & Kathy McCoy Gospel — and the risky way. The safe way pretty Live Stream of Evening Prayer, 7:30pm much keeps the Gospel in church and around like-minded people. I say my prayers, go to Mass, SATURDAY - July 17 ~ BVM contribute to the food pantry, tithe, and attend Bible 5:00 PM William Skupic, Kozlowski Family Study. That pretty much covers the bases, right? Live Stream of Mass, 5:00pm Wrong. SUNDAY – July 18 ~ 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time The risky way is the more challenging way and for 8:00 AM many, the “road less traveled.” Imagine those first 10:30 AM Charlie Schulz, Family disciples going out and into people’s homes. They must have had some amazing conversations with folks about God’s kingdom, changing their hearts, forgiving sins, and looking at the world differently. They must have met people who were hurting, exiled from their communities, neglected, lost, or living Readings for the week of July 11, 2021 self-insulated lives in a society that served the rich and neglected the poor. While there were many who Monday: Ex 1:8-14, 22/Ps 124/Mt 10:34-11:1 welcomed what they had to say and the conversations they had, there were others who no Tuesday: Ex 2:1-15a/Ps 69/Mt 11:20-24 doubt rejected them and literally tossed them out on their ears! The Gospel, while being a message of joy and hope, is not always received well by those who Wednesday: Ex 3:1-6, 9-12/Ps 103/Mt 11:25-27 are very comfortable keeping things as they are. Thursday: Ex 3:13-20/Ps 105/Mt 11:28-30 The risky way involves example and conversation. We have to take the Gospel from church and carry it Friday: Ex 11:10-12:14/Ps 116/Mt 12:1-8 with us wherever we go. What kinds of conversations do we have with others? We interact with those closest to us, in our work, social circles, institutions, Saturday: Ex 12:37-42/Ps 136/Mt 12:14-4-21 corporations, in politics, and beyond. Our conversations with others reveal a great deal about Next Sunday: Jer 23:1-6/Ps 23/Mk 6:30-3 how we see things and what we consider important. If we are really interested in seeing God’s vision for the world succeed, then we will talk about it. It will become a part of our everyday conversation and find its way into our interactions with others. How will we preserve the dignity of human life and encourage July 4~ Weekly Offering others to have a relationship with God? We must be Unavailable due to early submittal of bulletin the example, live value centered, virtuous lives, stand against injustice, combating racism, and learn ways Thank You and God Bless You!! to resolve conflicts without violence. From Father Kevin... Dear Parishioners, In today’s Gospel, Jesus sends out the disciples “two by two”. There is something very Christ-like in accomplishing great works with the help of others. God calls us all to use our gifts and talents, time and energy with others to better show the Father’s love for us all. When we gather to pray the Mass all of us are important. There is no audience in the church. We all participate actively in offering this great prayer. The ministries of Altar Server, Eucharistic Minister, Lector and Usher help us all to pray. As we move forward, as more people join the celebration, we will need new disciples to minister in the midst of the community. It is easy to see the utilitarian necessity to have people do different jobs. But these are ministries, not jobs. They help each minister to know the Lord better, to grow and bear fruit in the Spirit and in ser- vice to the people of God. They are simple but wonderful ways to share in God’s care for us all. Please in your prayer ask the Lord to show you the way you can minister for the good of all. Following the Lord’s “two by two” admonition, please ask a minister about their practical and spiritual experience of serving the community in this way. As we hear Jesus say often, “Do not be afraid. Have faith. Fol- low me.” The Parish Festival is drawing near and preparations are speeding up. You should have received your Festival Raffle by now. Please look for them and make your returns as soon as possible. Additional tickets are available at the parish office. Because the Festival is at the Italian-American Club on Euclid Ave in Willowick, we will need help getting things there, setting them up and bringing them back. It is a great opportunity for an invigorating Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament workout for a good cause. Thanks to all who signed up to help so is Monday through Friday from 9:00am- far; prime spots are still open. 2:00pm. All are welcome. You can also come and pray in the chapel on Sunday Fr.
