Since March 2013, the company previously known as Tognum AG has been wholly owned by Rolls-Royce plc and Daimler AG. In the next few months Rolls-Royce will acquire all the company's shares. The regional subsidiaries have also been renamed: Tognum America Inc. based in Novi, Michigan is now trading as MTU America Inc., and Tognum Asia Pte based in Singapore is now known as MTU Asia Pte. Ltd. “The new title of Rolls-Royce Power Systems reflects the close industrial link with Rolls- Royce. At the same time, our owners, Rolls-Royce and Daimler, have made a clear commitment to the longstanding MTU, MTU Onsite Energy and L’Orange brands,” states Chairman, Dr Ulrich Dohle. More on this... And why should they be? As long as it is not cold and the machines keep working, there is no reason to worry about it. In the Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore a modular energy plant supplied by MTU Onsite Energy will soon be ensuring that only the operators need to think about the room temperature and power supply. A large proportion of the project’s energy requirements for heating, air conditioning and electricity are provided by a combined chiller system and modular heat and power plant known as a trigeneration plant. The Combined heat and power (CHP) module supplies 1,149 kW of electrical energy (kWe) and 3,921 joules of heat per hour. Combined heat, cooling and power systems based on CHP modules not only produce heat and power but also have cooling capacity – for air conditioning systems, for example. The system utilizes the recovered heat from the engine’s exhaust and cooling systems which would otherwise be lost. In that way, the overall energy efficiency of a building can be more than doubled – a smart idea that the new casino in Baltimore will certainly benefit from. With its 100 gaming tables, 2,500 slot machines and numerous restaurants, this will be a very special gaming palace when it opens in the summer. 6 I MTU Report 01/14 MTU Report 01/14 I 7 News MTU Asia is renting a new headquarters for over 300 employees. • Maybach Cars Celebrates 90Th Anniversary 111108Master
MEDIA RELEASE November 2011 Maybach cars celebrates 90th anniversary • Debut as car maker at 1921 Berlin Motor Show • Innovative drivetrain technology set standards • Keeping history alive at Maybach Club meeting in Friedrichshafen beginning of September Friedrichshafen. It was 90 years ago that the era of the Maybach motor car began. In September 1921, Maybach Motorenbau GmbH, the company which became the present-day Tognum subsidiary MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH, presented its first motor car to the public. To mark the occasion of this major anniversary and to coincide with the celebrations for the Friedrichshafen bicentennial, the annual meeting of the Maybach Owner's Club took place on the second weekend in September in the town on the banks of Lake Constance. It was being organised by the Zeppelin Museum with support from Tognum AG. Today there are still around 160 Maybach cars in existence across the world. Most of them are still roadworthy and their owners regularly meet up at events organised by the Maybach Club in Germany. In the 1920s and 1930s, the German luxury car industry enjoyed one of its golden eras. It was in those years that the legendary Maybach luxury limousines were built in Friedrichshafen. The marque made its debut 90 years ago. From 23 September to 2 October 1921, Maybach- Motorenbau GmbH exhibited its first car, the Type 22/70 HP (internally designated the W 3) at the Berlin Motor Show. The W 3 offered a range of technical highlights that were enthusiastically received by the media. It was the first German car to feature braking of all four wheels.
