  • The Future of Gaming and Amusement in Europe a Collection of Essays
The Future of Gaming and Amusement in Europe A collection of essays The Future of Gaming and Amusement in Europe A collection of essays 2 | EUROMAT Eduardo Antoja, EUROMAT President It is time for the gaming and amusement sector across the European Union (EU), represented by EUROMAT, to move from traditional coin-operated amusement machines to new forms of entertainment, either with or without cash prizes, as demanded by society in the 21st Century. We are ready to cross over, but the bridges have not yet been built. As a highly and locally regulated sector, the bridges needed to bring gaming and amusement into the 21st Century will be numerous, complex and difficult to build. They will only be assembled through cooperation between the sector itself, financial institutions and, by no means least, the regulators. Without the close cooperation of these three players, no bridges will be built and the gaming and amusement sector will stay in the 20th Century. “We will cross that bridge This process will not be without its difficulties. On the one hand, some EU Member States appear to require control of all forms of gambling and gaming while others when we get there!” embrace new forms, but only to such an extent as to operate these activities on the basis of state-owned and state-controlled entities.
