Available at: https://works.bepress.com/st_moore/122/ Brazilian Popular Music on DVD: A Review by Tom Moore Just as the introduction of the CD revivified the recording industry, expanding the variety of recordings available and making newly available recordings that had been out of print, the introduction of the DVD has brought changes to video. The most important of these changes, at least for those interested in programming from outside the United States, is the fact that DVDs can easily offer subtitles in a variety of languages, so that the same DVD can be marketed to viewers from different markets, whether they speak English, Spanish, or French, which takes in a substantial portion of the world population. Many DVDs produced in the developed world are restricted by zone, so that producers can control the distribution of feature films. Nevertheless, there are many DVDs that can be played in any zone, and fortunately viewers interested in Brazilian video, many Brazilian DVDs fall into this category and can be used in the United States on any player. Maddy Bellani, a botanist with the Millennium Seed Bank in Cape Town, is sent on the trail of an African plant thought to be extinct on the continent, and believed to be growing in Brazil. Maddy is a reluctant heroine, a botanist of many places but no home, who responds to the call because she believes it might help her put some of her unsettledness to rest. But when she finds herself in a place that shakes her preconceptions to the core, the myths she has constructed to prop up her life and sense of self come crashing down around her.

She knows she is the worthy heir to her father’s art so now it is no longer Estrella Morente in concert but Morente in Concert. Her voice, difficult to classify, has the gift of deifying any musical register she proposes. Although strongly influenced by her father’s art, Estrella likes to include her own things: fados, coplas, sevillanas, blues, jazz… ESTRELLA can’t be described described with words. Looking at her, listening to her and feeling her is the only way to experience her art in an intimate way. Her voice vibrates between the ethereal and the earthly like a presence that mutates between reality and the beyond. All those who have the chance to spend a while in her company will never forget it for they know they have been part of an inexplicable phenomenon. Tonight she offers us the best of her art. From the subtle simplicity of the festive songs of her childhood to the depths of a yearned-for love.     27 Diario del Alto Aragón Domingo, 10 de abril de 2011 domingo MÚSICA MANÁ ‘Drama y luz’ 3Ya ha salido por fin el primer álbum de Maná en cinco años, desde que en 2006 se publicara el superventas Amar es combatir. El título hace alusión a la desgracia que vivió el cantante y líder del grupo, Fher Olvera, al perder a su madre y a su hermana en poco tiempo, todo lo cual estuvo a punto de dar al traste con el proyecto, e incluso obligó a retrasar el lanzamiento, previsto para las pasadas Navidades. Producido por Fher, Álex y Sergio, el nuevo trabajo se empezó a grabar en mayo de 2010 entre Puerto Vallarta y Los Ángeles, y fue terminado en los estudios Henson Recording de la ciudad de Los Ángeles (California). También pasaron por Brasil. Con Lluvia al corazón como primer sencillo, Drama y luz está llamado a ser uno de los grandes discos de la banda mexicana, los reyes de la fusión pop de su país. Maná sale de la oscuridad y vuelve con la energía de siempre: Drama y luz volverá a ser un éxito, como sus discos anteriores.
