On Friday, the 27th of March our Prime Minister Leo Varadkar, after meetings with the chief medical officer, Tony Holohan and his minister for Health, Simon Harris announced that Ireland would be undergoing further restrictions in response to Covid 19. From midnight on the 27th of March until Easter Sunday, the 12th of April, the following restrictions will apply to all residents of the Republic of Ireland. The Taoiseach has said that from midnight last night until 12 April, everybody must stay at home except in specific circumstances. Leo Varadkar made the announcement in an update on the Government's response to the coronavirus pandemic at a press conference at Government Buildings. Although Mr. Varadkar did not like to use the term 'lockdown' this is effectively what it is. L'IRLANDE EN CONFINEMENT DU COVID 19 Seuls les travailleurs essentiels, tels que les professionnels de la santé, seront autorisés à se rendre librement sur leur lieu de travail et à en revenir Only essential workers such as health care professionals will be allowed to travel freely to and from work Les gens doivent se rendre compte que ce virus est mortel et que si nous n'adhérons pas à ces nouvelles restrictions, nous nous mettons nous-mêmes et les autres en grave danger. People must realise that this virus is deadly and if we do not adhere to these new restrictions, we are putting both ourselves and others in grave danger. Regular hand washing and social distancing are the only weapons we have against this silent enemy. If everyone takes this period of national confinement seriously, we will be able to break the chain and stop the spread of this highly contagious potentially fatal virus. It is therefore up to all of us stay at home and not travel outside a two kilometre radius of our homes.
