About the Contributors

Utku Kose received a BS degree in 2008 in computer education from Gazi University, as a faculty valedictorian. He received an MS degree in 2010 from Afyon Kocatepe University, Turkey and now, he pursuing a DS / PhD at Selcuk University, Turkey in the field of computer engineering. Between 2009 and 2011, he worked as a Research Assistant in Afyon Kocatepe University. Following, he also worked as a Lecturer at a Vocational School and Vice Director at Afyon Kocatepe University between 2011 and 2012. Currently, he is a Lecturer in Usak University, Turkey. His research interests include artificial intelligence, chaos theory, distance education, e-learning, computer education, and computer science.

Durmus Koc received a BS degree in 2008 in computer and instruction technologies education from Samsun 19 May University, Turkey. He is pursuing a MS degree at Suleyman Demirel University, Turkey in the field of educational technologies. Currently, he is also a Lecturer at Usak University, Turkey. His research interests include educational technologies, computer education, distance education, and e-learning.

Ahmet Arslan received a BS degree in 1984 in electrical – electronic engineering from Firat Uni- versity, Turkey. He received an MS degree in 1987, in the same field from Firat University, Turkey and completed a DS / PhD at , Turkey in the field of computer engineering. Between 1992 and 1999, he has worked as an Assistant Professor in Firat University. Following, he has also worked as Associated Professor at the Firat University, until 2005. Currently, he is a Professor in Selcuk University, Turkey. His research interests include data mining, machine learning, computer learning, and computer assisted designing.

Göksel Aslan was born in , Turkey, in 1966. He received his BS degree in Computer Science from , Ankara, Turkey, in 1988. He received his MS and PhD degrees from the Uni- versity of Southern California (USC), Los Angeles, U.S.A, in 1991 and in 1998 respectively. He worked as a Senior Software Engineer for Adventive Technologies Inc. in Santa Monica, California, U.S.A., which was a company focusing on “Enterprise Application Integration” domain. He also worked as a Manager of Application Engineering for the company “Warner Bros. Online / Advanced Digital Services” in Burbank, California, U.S.A., which is a Time Warner company. His current research interests include database interoperability, database design, data warehousing, distributed computing and semantic web. About the Contributors

Sergey Butakov graduated from the Altai State Technical University, Russia in 1996 with an MS in CS. He received a PhD in CS in 2000 from Altai State University. For a number of years, he worked as a professor of IT at the Altay Academy of Economics and Law and served as a chief information officer in the same institution. Since 2004, he is an associate professor at the American University of Nigeria. In 2008-2012, he worked for universities in South Korea. In present, he is a program coordinator at Concordia University College of Alberta, Canada. His research interests include information security, artificial intelligence, networking and curriculum development.

Ibrahim Arda Cankaya received his BS degree in 2012 from Suleyman Demirel University in the Computer Engineering Department in Turkey. He pursuing his MS in education at Suleyman Demirel University in Computer Engineering Department in Turkey. He is in the thesis stage. His masters thesis involved the designing and implementation of an indoor navigation system with augmented reality on the IOS mobile platform. Future directions of study will likely include Big Data and Big Data Manage- ment. He has been working as a Research Assistant at Suleyman Demirel University in the Computer Engineering Department since 2012.He has an instructor cerfiticate from Oracle / PLSQL programming. His research interests include Algorithm and Programming, Database Management, Mobile Program- ming, and PLSQL programming.

Esad Esgin received a BS degree in 2007 from Computer Education and Instructional Technologies program at Boğaziçi University, Turkey. Then he received an MS degree in 2010 from same program at , Turkey and now, he is pursuing a PhD at Marmara University in the same pro- gram. After working as an ICT Teacher between 2007 and 2008, he has been working as a Research Assistant at Marmara University since 2008. Following, he has also been working as an IT Coordinator at Marmara University Rectorate since 2011. His research interest includes human-computer interac- tion, usability, cognitive psychology, digital game based learning, design of e-learning environments, and software quality.

Wilhelmiina Hämäläinen received a MTh degree in 1998 and a MSc degree in 2002, both from the University of Helsinki, Finland. He received a PhLic. degree in 2006 from the University of Joensuu, Finland, and a PhD degree (Computer Science) in 2010 from the University of Helsinki, Finland. She has worked as a lecturer, an assistant professor, and a researcher of Computer Science in several Finnish universities. Currently she is working as a researcher at the Academy of Finland, in the School of Com- puting in the University of Eastern Finland. Her main interests include statistically sound data mining, machine learning, algorithmics, and mathematics. In addition, she is interested in applied data mining and machine learning in the fields of biology and education.

Azadeh Heidari received a BS degree in 2003 from the Medical Library of Information Science at the Iran University of Medical Science, Tehran, Iran. She received an MS degree in 2007 from the Library of Information Science at the Islamic Azad University, North Branch, Tehran, Iran. Now, she is a PhD graduate in the field of library and information science from the Islamic Azad University, sci- ence and research branch, Tehran, Iran. Following, she has also worked as a lecturer in librarianship and information science. Her research interests include digital library, knowledge management and knowl- edge sharing, digital divide, e-learning, learning organizations, and popularization of science. She has published several papers in Persian and English.

Ali Hakan Isik was born in Burdur, Turkey, in 1980. He received a BS and MSc degree in electrical- electronics engineering from Gazi University, Ankara, Turkey. He received a PhD degree in the field of Electronics from the Computer Education department at Gazi University, in 2012. He worked for Turk Telekom Corporation which is an incumbent telecommunication operator in Turkey, and it has 17 million subscribers. He also worked as a system administrator at Gazi University Distance Education system in the Institute of Informatics. He is currently the Assist. Prof. Dr. in the department of Computer Engineering in Mehmet Akif Ersoy University. His current research interests include experts systems, distance education, telemedicine, signal processing, computer education, and computer science.

Arif Koyun received a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Engineering from , Turkey in 1995 and 1988 respectively. He received his MS degree in 1991 from Akdeniz University, Turkey and a PhD in 2006 from Suleyman Demirel University, Turkey. Between 2001 and 2007, he had worked as a Lecturer at Suleyman Demirel University. Currently, he is an Assist. Prof.Dr. in Suleyman Demirel University, Turkey. He teaches Database Management, Algorithms and Programming, and Client Server Systems courses. His research interests include artificial intelligence, data mining, database management systems, distance education, e-learning, computer education, client server systems, and computer science.

Ville Kumpulainen is currently a student of computer science in the School of Computing at the University of Eastern Finland. He has work experience in software development. In addition, he has been involved in projects in the area of data mining. His research interests include artificial intelligence, machine vision, data mining, mathematics, and algorithmics.

Maxim Mozgovoy received a PhD degree in Applied Mathematics (2006) from St Petersburg State University (Russia) and a PhD degree in Computer Science (2007) from the University of Joensuu (Finland). Currently, he is employed as an associate professor at the University of Aizu (Japan). He studies practical game-oriented observation-based AI systems. The main purpose of his research is to demonstrate the advantages of machine learning and case-based reasoning over traditional approaches to game AI development that often require enormous handwork. His other research interests are focused around natural language processing technologies. In particular, he is currently working on a “virtual language lab” that will combine natural language processing algorithms with a computer-assisted lan- guage learning environment. Maxim Mozgovoy is also an author of several books on programming and computer science.

Duygu Mutlu-Bayraktar received a BS degree in 2007 from the Computer Education and Instruc- tional Technology Department at Cukurova University, Turkey. She received an MS degree in 2009 from the Computer Education and Instructional Technology Department at Hacettepe University, Turkey and now, she received a PhD degree in 2014 from Marmara University, Turkey in the field of Eye Tracking Method about Multimedia Learning. She has worked as a Research Assistant in University since 2008. Her research interests include multimedia learning, instructional design, eye tracking, hu- man computer interaction and artificial intelligence. She is currently working towards a PhD on the eye tracking about multimedia learning environment.

Leila Nemati-Anaraki has a PhD in Library and Information Science from the Islamic Azad Uni- versity, Science and Research Branch, Tehran, Iran and a member of Young Researchers and Elites Club at the Islamic Azad University. She has a BSc in Medical Library and Information Science from the Iran University of Medical Science and a MA in Library and Information Science from the Islamic Azad University, North Branch, Tehran, Iran. She Worked as a cataloger and process administrator in the National Library of Iran from 2006-2007. She also has worked as a reference librarian and an expert on information services at Iran University of Medical Science since 2007 till now. She teaches in Different Universities. Her research interests include IT and Research Strategies, E-learning, Education, Digital Divide and new Technologies, and interaction of end Users with web-based search tools, Sientometrics, Knowledge Management, and Knowledge Sharing in Organizations and Educational Institutions.

Bogdan Pătruţ is an associate professor in computer science at Vasile Alecsandri University of Bacău, Romania. He holds a PhD in computer science from Babeş-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania, and a PhD in accounting from Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iaşi, Romania. His domains of interest/research are multi-agent systems applied in accounting education and computer science applied in social and political sciences. He published or edited more than 25 books on programming, algorithms, artificial intelligence, interactive education, and social media, including Social Media and the New Academic Environment and Social Media in Higher Education, books published by IGI Global.

Denis Smolin obtained an MS in CS in 1996 from the Altai State Technical University, Russia. He received a PhD in CS in 2000 from Novosibirsk State University, Siberia. In 1998-2003, he worked as a professor of IT at ASTU and in 2003 switched to industry. In 2003-2009, he served as a chief of IT in Altay Kray Adminstration. IT infrastructure of this territory covers about 500.000 km2 and a 2.4 million population. In 2009, he joined the bright team of the American University of Nigeria where he was CS program coordinator. In 2012, he was in Bosnia at the American University of BiH. In 2013, he was promoted to the dean. His research interests include artificial intelligence, e-learning and testing and programming.

Guray Sonugur was born on May 3rd 1973 in Balıkesir,Turkey. In 1994, he graduated from the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department in . In 2012, he graduated with a masters degree from the Afyon Kocatepe University in Computer Technologies. Since July 2012, he has been pursuing a PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the Afyon KocatepeUniversity, Turkey. He worked as a field engineer in the Gurmas Machinery Industry Co, Afyonkarahisar, Turkey, from 1995 to 1997, and as the director of the IT department at the Turkish Telecommunication Company, Afyonkarahisar, Turkey, from 1997 to 2010. Currently, he works as an engineer at Afyon Kocatepe University IT Depart- ment, Afyonkarahisar, Turkey. His research interests include image processing, artificial intelligence, distance education, and e-learning.

Kadir Suzme received a BS degree in 2010 from the computer engineering depertment of Eastern , in Cyprus. He received a MS degree in 2013 from Afyon Kocatepe University, Turkey .He is currently studying Afyon Kocatepe University, in Turkey. His research interests include computer-based control systems, fuzzy logic control, neuro-fuzzy control.

Aslihan Tufekci received a BS degree in 1994 in computer education from Gazi University, Turkey. She received an MS degree in 1997 from Gazi University, Turkey and completed a DS / PhD in 2002, at the same university, in the field of electronic and computer education. She has worked at Gazi University as a Research Assistant between 1994 and 2002, and as a Lecturer between 2002 and 2006. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor in Gazi University, and she also works on spreading the international cer- tifications in Turkey for increasing business quality and bringing the country to a desired situation. Her research interests include educational technology, computer assisted instruction and distance education, human computer interaction, artificial intelligence, policies for using ICT in education, and international certifications.

Tuncay Yigit received his MS and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Institute of Natural and Applied Sciences of Gazi University, in 2000 and 2005, respectively. He worked as a lecturer at the Computer Education University at Gazi University until 2007. He is currently an Associate Professor of Computer Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering in Suleyman Demirel University. He has extensive experience in teaching, object-oriented programming, software engineering, and Artificial intelligence and e-learning. His research interests include object-oriented software development with the UML, com- puter science and software engineering education development of e-learning, and Web-based learning systems. He has published over 20 papers in international journals and conference proceedings.

Asim Sinan Yuksel received his BS degree in 2006 from in the Computer Engineer- ing Department, Turkey. He worked as a Software Developer at the Social Security Institution between 2006 and 2007 in Ankara. He received his MS degree at the Indiana University School of Informatics and Computer, USA in 2010 and he is pursuing his PhD education at Computer Engineering Department, Turkey. He has been working as a Research Assistant in Suleyman Demirel University in the Computer Engineering Department since 2012.
