1. About the competition

Competition : Competition “The Amber Avant-Garde”

Competition venue and time: International Exhibition Centre in Riga, 8 Ķī psalas Street, within the framework of the competition for Young Fashion “Habitus Baltija 2014” Including: 3 April, 2014. Competition organisers : International Exhibition Company BT 1 in cooperation with the Art Academy of Latvia

Aim: The creation of new, extraordinary garments that are inspired by the ideas of the theme “Amber Vein” within the framework of the “Riga 2014” programme (More: http://office.riga2014.org/en/2011/08/02/dzintara-adere-2/ ). The aim of the competition is to introduce the specifics of amber, its characteristic features, origin and new ways of application to the participants.

Participants: Design and art school and university students and young fashion designers not later than three years after graduation and the participants of the competition for Young Fashion Designers “Habitus Baltija 2013”. The number of participants at the competition is limited.

The project is implemented within the framework of the programme “Riga 2014” with the theme “Amber Vein”.

2. Application for the competition and acceptance by the organiser

A person wishing to participate in the competition shall fill in the application form electronically and send it to the organiser by email by 15 March, 2014 : [email protected] and indicate the following information: 1) fully finished sketch presentation (in the Latvian or English language, in an MS Power Point file up to 3 MB) and the following information: • inspiration materials (1 page); • description of the costume / description of idea (up to 50 words); • costume sketch (front and back side with all accessories); • costume materials (1 page); 2) short description of the participant (CV); 3) four photos of the costume – complete set on a model in full height by showing the front and back side shall be submitted by 15 March, 2014. The photo must show all the accessories in the way the costume will be presented at the competition show.

The participant may submit one male or female costume that is designed especially for this competition and reflects the author's idea of the given subject. The works of the collections of previous years may also be used in the if they correspond with the competition theme “The Amber Avant-Garde”. The costume must be the work of the author. The materials used for the costume design may be most varied.

3. Competition participation fee

Participation in the Fashion Design Competition “The Amber Avant-Garde” is free for “Habitus Baltija 2014” participants.

The competition participation fee for other participants is EUR 50.00 / LVL 35.14 (excluding VAT).

The competition participation fee shall be paid by means of transfer settlements to the bank account indicated by the organiser within five working days, or in cash at the box-office of the organiser after the issue of the invoice.

If the payment of the participation fee is delayed, the organiser shall have the right to refuse participation in the competition.

The participant is entitled to withdraw from participation in the competition upon a written notice. The organiser shall reimburse the participation fee in full if such notice is received by 1 February, 2014. If the notice is received after 1 February, 2014, the organiser will retain 50% of the participation fee as a penalty fee. If the participation is cancelled after 1 March, 2014, the participation fee shall not be reimbursed.

4. Demonstration

The time given for demonstration of the collection is 1–2 minutes.

The organiser provides : • A model (classical make-up, hair style, classical socks and black shoes); • A podium and backstage premises; • Assisting staff.

Additional make-up is not ensured by the organiser! The participant may also use shoes of its choice, if necessary. The shoes must be similar in style or identical to the shoes presented in the design photos.

The participant may present the collection by using its models upon a written notice to the organiser one month in advance. In this case, the participant itself shall ensure model make-up and hair style.

The participant shall comply with the try-on, rehearsal, model selection and competition schedules provided by the organisers.

In the case if the participant is absent or late, the organiser shall not provide a repeated try-on, rehearsal or model selection.

5. Evaluation

The works of the participants will be evaluated by an international jury of fashion designers, clothes manufacturing experts, fashion editors and teachers of educational establishments. The members of the jury will be announced separately.

Costume evaluation criteria: • Compliance with the competition theme; • Originality and innovation of the form; • Overall visual assessment.

One costume may have one author or one pair of authors.

6. Prize fund

• The winner shall receive a cash prize of 500 EUR and prepaid participation in the competition “Habitus Baltija 2015” • Diplomas to competition participants • Sponsor prizes

7. Other provisions

The best costumes may be presented again at the competition award ceremony.

The participant shall inform the organiser about the time of its arrival by 1 March, 2014 by email: [email protected] .

The organiser shall prepare all rehearsal schedules and inform about the time and place of the award ceremony by 24 March, 2014 upon sending the COMPETITION RULES to the email address indicated by the participant.

The organiser shall inform the participant about the competition schedule by 4 April, 2014, 9:00 o’clock.

COMPETITION RULES are an integral part of these bylaws and are binding to the participant applying for participation in the competition.

The original copy of these bylaws is issued to the organiser (the participant may receive a certified copy). This document is an integral part of the participant’s application; it shall become effective at the moment of mutual signing of the application and remain effective until the complete fulfilment of the mutual liabilities of the parties.
