Faunal, phenological and bibliographical information on Latvian Eumolpinae are presented in the current paper. Bibliographycal analysis on this leaf-beetles subfamily in Latvia is made for the first time. An annotated list of Latvian Eumolpinae including 4 species of 3 genera is given. The biodiversity of mixed-species samples of arthropods can be characterized by shotgun sequencing of bulk genomic DNA and subsequent bioinformatics assembly of mitochondrial genomes. Here, we tested the power of mitochondrial metagenomics by conducting Illumina sequencing on mixtures of >2600 individuals of leaf beetles (Chrysomelidae) from 10 communities. 2. Patterns of species richness, community dissimilarity and biomass were assessed from matches of reads against three reference databases, including (i) a custom set of mitogenomes generated for 156 species (89% of species in the study); (ii) mitogenomes obtained by the de novo assembly of sequence reads from the real-world communities; and (iii) a custom set of DNA barcode (cox1-50) sequences. 3. Species detection against the custom-built reference genomes was very high (>90%). False presences were rare against mitogenomes but slightly higher against the barcode references. -

Water treatment processes leading to •OH are called advanced oxidation processes (AOPs). The Fenton process, one of several AOPs, describes the reaction of Fe(II) with hydrogen peroxide. Fe(II) is oxidized to Fe(III) that reacts with hydrogen peroxide to Fe(II) and again initiates the Fenton reaction. One reactive species formed in the • Fenton process are OH. Conditions such as pH, the H2O2:Fe(II) ratio and ligand concentration may influence the •OH yield. It could be shown that at pH < 2.7 and > 3.5 the •OH yield decreases significantly. The investigated ligands were pyrophosphate and sulfate. It was found that pyrophosphate forms a complex with Fe(III) that does not react with hydrogen peroxide and thus, terminates the Fenton process and decreases the •OH yield. Sulfate also influences the Fenton process but not to the same extent as pyrophosphate. The •OH yield is decreased when sulfate is added but even at higher concentrations the Fenton reaction is not terminated. -

The leaf-eating beetle distribution among different areas of Azerbaijan is presented. In the Great Caucasus 263 species are noted, in the Small Caucasus 206, in Kura - Araks lowland 174, and in Lenkoran zone 262. The distribution of the leaf-eating beetles among different sites is also described and the results of zoogeographic analysis of the leaf-eating beetle fauna are presented as well. Eleven zoogeographic groups of the leaf-eating beetles were revealed in Azerbaijan, which are not very specific. The fauna consists mainly of the common species; the number of endemic species is small. Key Words: leaf-eating beetle, larva, pest, biotope, zoogeography. Summary. An updated list of Chrysomelidae of Korea is provided with comments on all taxonomic, nomenclatural, and distributional changes. This paper is the first attempt to divide the distributional records of all Korean Chrysomelidae into records for North and South Korea. In total, 128 genera and 424 species are reported: 293 species in North Korea, 340 in South Korea, and 10 without precise localities in Korea; 22 species are excluded from the Korean fauna; 15 new national records from South Korea are reported, 10 of which are new to Korea. Предпринята первая попытка разделения фаунистических данных по всем корейским листоедам на указания для северной и южной частей полуострова. Всего приводятся 424 вида из 128 родов, из которых 293 вида отмечены для Северной, 340 видов – для Южной Кореи, а 10 видов – из Кореи без более точного указания; 22 вид искючен из фауны Корейского полу- острова; 15 видов впервые указаны для Республики Корея, из них 10 видов являются новыми для полуострова. -
