PRESIDENT’S REPORT

The 2019/20 season was already playing out under the dramatic backdrop of smoke and ash as the state of NSW burned for most of summer when it all came to a dramatic halt only days before Grand Final weekend. We’ve seen rain wash away finals but never anything like the chaos brought on by the threat of Covid-19. It not only brought playing to a premature end, but also forced the cancellation of all post-season gatherings including presentation days, team functions and senior end of season trips. In terms of finals cancellations, CPCC fortunately had the better outcome for once as all five of our grand final bound teams ended up being awarded Premierships as the highest ranked teams. A great reward and reflection of the consistent strength these teams demonstrated across the entire season.

Special mention to senior player Blake Conde who’s massive 852 runs for 4th Grade this season was good for second highest season total of all time and included four centuries. This in no small way contributed to a 4th Grade Premiership for this team of club stalwarts. Unfortunately, we aren’t so competitive in the top grade at present despite valiant efforts from the likes of Brodie Elliott, Tom Carden and Rob Minnett to recruit and drive a top-grade squad.

New Treasurer Ben Summers has done a sterling job in his first season after taking from long term incumbent Toby Horstead. Other more recent members to our committee have also been fabulous helping us through another season. Just as well as the club fielded a record 21 junior teams and 5 senior teams, not to mention four T20 teams, a Masters team, Mini Bash teams and the Junior Blasters Program. Daniel Peacock managed the kiosk and among many other things, organised the upgrade of our refrigeration. Cameille Handley was again an energetic force for the success and growth of our girls cricket which expanded to four teams this year. Aislinn McKeever, Cathie Butler and Helen Stevenson were welcome participants in our junior committee meetings taking care of various tasks including uniforms, age group coordination, and team photos. Behind all that junior activity, Jocelyn Huxley worked tirelessly to pull it all together in magnificent fashion but we need more help. Demands on administration continue to grow, particularly now with the added complications of Covid-19, and the job of running the main admin of a club this size is well beyond what one or two people can do. It’s essential the next committee candidates consider stepping forward to take on new roles and to relieve those whose carried the main burden if the Club is to continue to operate successfully at current levels well into future.

The Club have commenced a project to install suitable LED lighting over the cricket nets to enable training later into the evening. The outcome will be more training time slots to help alleviate the current shortage in net availability for team training. Two grants have been received covering most of the $30k project cost. We are now just waiting on formal Council construction approval. All going well, we hope to have the project up and running by end of season 2020/21.

In other works proposed for Plateau Park, Northern Beaches Council will be redeveloping the playground over this winter. The design is themed to celebrate the Park’s history as the location where the technology that resulted in the invention of Wi-Fi was developed. We are supportive of this project and have provided feedback and input during the community consultation stage.

In August, club members Dave Bennetts, Rob Minnett, Dom Wheeler and myself participated in the Oxfam Trailwalker fundraising event representing CPCC. It was a fabulous experience training and then completing the tough 100km course from Brooklyn to Tania Park, Balgowlah. There were plenty of laughs, chaffing and other adventures along the way. We managed to raise over $4000 for this worthy course and were in tip top shape for the start of the cricket season. I strongly recommend anyone thinking of taking on this challenge to do so. The Club will support members wishing to enter a CPCC team.

Some sad news to report with the passing of Helen Minnett in March. Helen’s association with the club alongside husband John and all four of her sons playing participation with CPCC has been long and treasured. Speaking of amazing ladies with long Club associations, I am pleased to report that Hazel Brown aged 101, Marie Fairhall 95 and June Huxley 90 are still going strong. Hazel was recently visited by her son Chris who lives in the USA. Chris took the opportunity to catch up with other friends made at the Club during his time playing as a junior. (see attached photo). Hazel’s ‘Centurion Club’ membership card is in the mail.

I sincerely hope all CPCC families are managing well in these challenging times and we look forward to the 2020/21 season in whatever form the future season will be. Col Huxley – President

SECRETARY’S REPORT

2019/2020 was for sure no regular season. From our smoky skies and concerns over matches due to air quality, to various controversies and then, of course, to the abrupt end of our season with just grand final weekend to go.

On the committee we welcomed Ben Summers into the role of treasurer. He had big shoes to fill after long time treasurer Toby Horstead stepped aside. Ben has hit the ground running and has done a great job in his first year. I’d also like to echo Col’s words in acknowledging the hard work throughout the season of other new and established volunteers, and also his call out for more help should be amplified – we are certainly in need of more new faces on the committee and in volunteer roles.

Out of 21 Juniors teams we ended up with 4 premiers which is a fantastic result. Those teams were U16-18 Charges, U15/2 Electric, U13 Girls Cyclone and U12/1 Electrons. Our U11/1s also won their Mini Bash competition. The club was able to offer numerous coaching clinics throughout the season to our juniors, which featured professional coaches and visits from up and coming stars.

On the seniors front we welcomed several new players which enabled us to put together a 1st Grade side (after losing the bulk of last season’s playing group) as well as a new team in 3rd Grade. A group of juniors and fathers from U16/18s banded together to create a new 5th Grade side, giving us five teams when at one stage it seemed unlikely that we’d be able to field four. 4th Grade Blue was the shining light amongst our senior teams. After rain ruined their grand final hopes last season, they returned to top the table and have their deserved Premiership put out of doubt by Covid-19. 3rd Grade also had a successful season; the new group finished 3rd and showed a lot of positive signs for the future.

The Sunday T20 competition was a great feature of senior cricket this year. We welcomed another social team – the Edisons who joined the Ogres and Old Spice in the Plate. After steadily building over their 8 years in the competition, the Ogres had their major breakthrough by taking out the Plate competition. They are the first CPCC team to win the plate since 2010/11. The Cup side was boosted by numerous cameos by now Grade or Shires CPCC juniors and other Manly Grade stars. This was headlined by an appearance from Blues and Sixers player Mickey Edwards. It was fantastic to see the Towers team display such a mixture of successful CPCC graduates, young up and comers and also some usual faces.

The club was active in various charity events – raising over $1k for brain cancer research in Love4Lachie round, our ‘Sunrise Club’ raising $4.5k for Oxfam in their gruelling Trailwalker event and our T20 side supporting Long Reef’s Pink Stumps day which raised of $1k.

The Builders Club again sponsored the club this season. We understand that Covid-19 would have been difficult for our friends at the Builders and we hope to still be a part of their future as they ramp back up operations.

On the social front, the Christmas Party returned to Dee Why Chinese with a theme of ‘TV Shows’. We saw many surprise guests from shows such as the Teletubbies, the Simpsons, Batman and Thunderbirds. The end of season trip didn’t go ahead for the first time in over 20 years for obvious reasons, though we may look to sneak in our Culburra trip as a season launch activity.

As season 2020/21 approaches we cross our fingers that we can stay on top of the virus storm and that Cricket can run uninterrupted once it commences in mid-October.

TEN SEASONS AGO

Season 2009/10 saw several significant ‘firsts’ with the first CPCC team entered into the Sydney Masters Competition, and a CPCC team entered into the inaugural MWCA T20 competition competing for the Mike Pawley Trophy. There was plenty of action both on and off the field with 6 Senior and 18 Junior teams entered plus Milo In2Cricket program in addition to the T20 and Masters. There were premierships, awards and a second international club tour.

Cricket finally returned to Plateau Park with the conclusion of the PIPE Networks drilling saga and the field being handed back for play. The end result, the community were left worse off after being denied use of our valued oval for several years due to PIPE’s long occupation of Plateau Park. After stringing us all along with promises of leaving the park in a better condition, Pipe cried poor, accused us of trying to profit and vacated leaving a sunken patch on the western side that fills up with water anytime it rains. Not long after, PIPE Networks sold out to TPG at $6.30 per share.

Young Captain Dom Wheeler led his 7th Grade team to a premiership under the watchful eye of John Jackson (Jacko’s Cricket Academy). The team defeated Balgowlah (a team of adults) in the Grand Final at David Thomas to be back-to-back premiers. Mikaela Turik played during the season making her the first known girl to officially play for CPCC in the seniors. 1st Grade missed out on the finals despite a thrilling 82 run final stand between Jas Haithwaite (100) and Dean Storey. Deano snicked one to slip leaving them one run short of the finals. Captain Rob Minnett summed up the season as such “In the first game we selected one of the recent internet signings in James Houlgrave. James turned up late on the first day without any whites, borrowed one of my England Tour shirts, borrowed pants from Jason (Haithwaite), only scored 3 runs and then did an ‘no show’ on the second day, never returning said shirt or pants”. Adam Peacock’s 5ths made the Grand Final but couldn’t quite chase down a big total.

Tom Carden coordinated our first T20 team in the comps inaugural year. They defeated an ‘All Star’ Harbord Diggers team to progress to the finals before falling to a young Wakehurst team in the GF. John Jackson coordinated CPCC’s entry into the Sydney Masters Competition. We announced our arrival by beating Manly Grade Club on Manly Oval but Manly’s subsequent withdrawal from the competition resulted in a controversial re-jigging of points and draws leaving CPCC third at the end of the season.

Season awards were highlighted by John Jackson being crowned MWCA Sportsman of the Year - a deserved winner if ever there was one. Arshdeep Virdi received the Eric Palmer Bat Award for best player - the most prestigious junior association award. An up and coming Jeff Porter Dening won CPCC’s most prestigious award - the Bruce Shearer Trophy with 913 points, whilst Jason Haithwaite took out 1st Grade’s Randolph Beddows Flag.

On the social front, the annual Christmas Party was held at the Rupee Room Indian restaurant in Collaroy and saw one of the best ever turnouts. So many turned up that organisers Luke and Camo had to pull out all their best negotiating skills to fit in all those that turned up without rsvps. The theme of Superheroes and other ‘S’ Words resulted in Silver Surfers, Scouts, Satan and,Sea Eagles Supporters filling the room and spilling out onto Pittwater Rd. A CPCC v England X1 match at Plateau Park was held as a pre-Tour warm up with the likes of Hobdell, Powers, Peters and Faulkner representing the Old Dart. The Golf Day was held resulting in the field getting dizzy doing laps of Balgowlah Golf Club with Brendan Ball’s ability to stay upright winning him the trophy.

The Club’s 2nd International Tour conquered new lands with a stopover game in Singapore en-route to England, and a finale in Amsterdam. The Singapore match was against Mark Christensen’s Misfits at the Ceylon Sports Club. The locals had the distinct advantage of being used to the oppressive 35 deg heat and humidity and not playing after their first night away on tour. The England leg was again incredible, a highlight being a memorable day at York Races. The Amsterdam match vs VRA at the VRA ground has gone down in CPCC folklore. A fabulous end to a great season.

VALE - Helen Minnett

Passed away 7 December 2019, late of Roseville, aged 85.

Wife of CPCC Life Member John Minnett, and mother of Robert, Bruce, Ian and Peter, Helen has always been a part of the Club from the early days when the boys were all playing junior cricket, and then making regular appearances at CPCC Presentation events and watching Rob at 1st Grade games.

The memory of Helen arriving in the Minnett’s ubiquitous Chrysler Valiant station wagon full of cricketers at local cricket destinations is vivid for those of the era. Always a great supporter of the club, Helen will be greatly missed and we share in the Minnett family’s loss.

OXFAM Trailwalker

The CPCC ‘Sunrise Club’ came out of hibernation to tackle the 100km Oxfam Trailwalker starting 23 August 2019. Oxfam Trailwalker is an endurance event in which teams of four tackle 100kms or 50km of Australian bush within 48 hours or 24 hours to raise money to fight poverty and injustice throughout the world.

CPCC stalwarts Rob Minnett, Dave Bennetts, Col Huxley and Dom Wheeler were busy ‘training all the winter’ to achieve this mighty task and there ‘wasn’t a team that’s fitter’, apart from all those that finished ahead of them.

After a whopping 31 hours, 100km and significant chafing, they finally dragged themselves over the finish line at Tania Park at 5pm on 24 August to complete the Oxfam Trailwalker for the first, and probably only time. A big thank you must go to our support crew Jocelyn Huxley and Warwick Tingle for all their help, and to everyone who donated to the team, helping smash the goal & raise over $4000 towards a great cause.

Randolph Beddows is well known in Manly Warringah cricket circles, 2018/19 Aaron Peters 790 particularly amongst the First Graders. There is no keener cricketer 2017/18 Rob Minnett 980 in the District than Randy. Whether it has been following Martin Shield, the old Forest Hawks, Balgowlah or of late Harbord 2016/17 Rob Minnett 512 teams, Randolph has been a regular on the sidelines for years. 2015/16 Dave Bennetts 617 Given a chance to field for any team who was short, Randolph would 2014/15 Tom Sheedy 707 be out like a shot invariably to fine leg. Otherwise, he’s more than happy to have a chat and reminisce. In 2004 Randolph returned a 2013/14 Dave Moss 787 piece of CPCC history he had been custodian of for 25 years. The Bob Williams Trophy

This perpetual senior club award was added during the 2018/19 season courtesy of the Williams Family. One of only five players known to have taken 1000 wickets in the MWCA, Bob Williams holds a special place in CPCC history. Bob played 27 seasons with the club and 327 matches starting as a boy in the afternoon D Grade team in 1962/63 before quickly progressing to A1/1st Grade by 1967/68. He then played 18 seasons at the top level before finishing his career in A2s. Bob’s 1003 wickets will stand forever as the Club record.

To celebrate Bob’s legacy and continued involvement of the Williams family with the club through his grandson, this trophy was established to reward the season highest wicket taker in either seniors, juniors or combined.

The ‘B & B’ Trophy - (Brian & Barbara Moore)

This perpetual senior Club Award was added during the 2001/02 season courtesy of ex-clubman Brian Moore. Brian, who re-visited the Plateau for the first time since returning to England after the ’72 season, was thrilled to see the Club continuing on as strong as ever after all these years. Brian and his son Ian who moved to Australia from England in the sixties, played several seasons with the Plateau with Brian captaining the 1971/72 premiership winning C2 team.

It was agreed by the Executive that the Award be presented to a player who displays an effort, both on and off the field which is above and beyond that which is normally expected. The winner is decided by vote of nominations received from team Captains.

Both events involve club members (individually or in pairs) playing off against each other over competition rounds to decide finalists and eventually a winner/winning pair. Results are determined by runs scored and wickets taken, against drawn opponents. The event was resurrected in 2006 after a 17 year hiatus.

The Stokes McGown Trophy

During the 1962/63 season, Frank Huxley turned in one of the best bowling performances in club history. In the one afternoon at Plateau Park, Frank took 6 wickets for 7 runs, then followed it up with 5 for 45 bowling his C1 Grade team to an outright victory. Prior to the introduction of MyCricket in 2007, club records were only kept for best bowling figures per innings. The only records of 10 wickets in a match or other significant bowling feats were via special mention in Club team reports, rare Manly Daily articles or in this case, a specially awarded trophy. Frank’s 13 wickets in a single afternoon was an impressive achievement and despite the lack of complete records for this category, it is unlikely to have been beaten in the Club’s 65 years. It is therefore fair to declare that The Stokes McGown Trophy stands as a unique award in Club History representing the most wickets taken in one day.

10 Wickets in an Innings – John Dawson

Junior John Dawson turned in statistically at least, the best bowling performance in an innings and a match, by a CPCC cricketer back in the 1968/69 season.

Whilst playing in the U13s at Griffith Park v Wakehurst, John took all 10 first innings wickets for 4 runs, Wakehurst being all out for only 13. In the second innings, John took 6 for 31.

Thanks to John for contacting the Club with this information via social media. Junior records have not been consistently kept in the years before MyCricket so only senior stats count to club records.

1st Grade

1st Grade had another trying year in a highly competitive league. The season started promisingly with a draw at Plateau Park against eventual joint premiers Harbord and victory in round 2.

However tough competition & inability for the team to really to find a groove throughout the middle part of the season lead to a series of losses that placed pressure to win games to make top 4 at the end of the season. Former juniors Sam Filmer-Ramsay, Glynn Archer & Dan Priest joined the ranks after Christmas helping to capture victory against Long Reef and leave the team with an opportunity to secure a place in finals by winning outright in the last game of the season against Beacon Hill. Unfortunately, we were unable to force a result in this game but finished with optimism that with pre-mentioned returning plateau juniors could form a strong basis for culture and success in future seasons.

With the bat, Shires recruit Alastair Fitzpatrick lead the way. Matt 'Brick' Richards was once again the ever-reliable spearhead of the attack with the ball and supported equally by developing junior Ben Eady who continues to impress through juniors and into seniors. Jeff Porter-Dening was also incredibly consistent with the ball when he could get on the park with the team.

The largest positive of the season was the integration of a squad mentality between 1sts & 3rd grade, giving the club opportunity flexibility for players between the grades. An example was the opportunity to blood returning Plateau juniors such as Nathan Logan for a few matches to compete against the best in the association.

Looking forward to what next season brings especially being cooped up watching old cricket YouTube videos in ISO.

3rd Grade

The newly formed 3rd grade team had a great season and proved to be very competitive in this grade with a 7/5 win ratio and finishing 3rd on the ladder. The team played in the semi-finals where the game was unfortunately washed out, and where the season was terminated before the grand final could be played due to the Coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic. The team was made up of Tony Jackson (c/wk), Matthew Jackson, Andrew Logan, Nathan Logan, Damien Logan, Graeme Neasmith, Kesh Ratnavibushena, Adrian Brault, Adrian Caproni, Adam Sheppard, Adam Morrison, David Bennetts, Lachie Allomes, Andrew Wheatley.

The team played some fantastic cricket and the camaraderie and the general teamwork and banter and enjoyment of playing cricket each week together was the highlight of the season. We also enjoyed some great individual performances, notably:

4th Grade ‘Blue’

Summary - We had a great year, carried by Blake. Finished on top and made the grand final. Called off because of Covid - Pandemic Premiers.

Rundown - We started with a solid win against Wakehurst with Blake continuing his solid form from season before with an unbeaten 81. Everyone else chipped in. And we rolled them with the ball with Matt and Raja getting 4 each. We had a couple of poor performances before after that before we picked it back up and played consistent cricket all season. Yes Blake had an amazing year again with 4 centuries, 852 runs and an average of 94.67. AMAZING to continue that on from the season before, but when he didn’t score (which was not often) someone else would step up and fill the void whether it was with bat or ball. All top order averaged in and around the 20’s

Matt had a good year with the bowling aggregate and average with 22 wickets at 13.9 and 21.5 average with bat. Young Raja Ganeshraj who only played 4 matches (the first 4) was well on track to take the bowling aggregate and average at 13 wickets at 11.5. One game to highlight, where I think we even made the paper was when we rolled Harbord Bowling for 18 and got the runs 0/19 (Ben Summers 6.1 overs - 2 maidens - 5/15, Ganesh Raj 5 overs 3 maidens, 1 for 3, Chris Dwyer 2 overs 2 maidens 3 for 0). Amazing stuff.

Anyway, we finished on top of the table, quite convincingly - made the semis and won a tough game in the wet against Wakehurst. Covid was becoming big news and we needed one more week of cricket …. We were up against Mona Vale Terries in the GF. We were confident and eager to play for the premiership, however COVID had other ideas. So we crowned ourselves PANDEMIC PREMIERS. Bring on next season!

4th Grade ‘Gold’

In what was a bit of an up and down season, we began the season in 5th grade for our first two games before being promoted into the 4th grade competition to make room for a second development team. We missed a few games with opposition forfeits and rain and played many games in bushfire smoke haze.

This season some new junior players joined our squad. These included Olly Fairchild, Will Cook and Taylor Frowde. Some of the junior players who returned from last season included Oli Knight, Luke McGuire, Harry Ryals, Luke Harvey and Nick Lee. Darcy Fleming played one game with us before apparently being promoted to Manly grade. It was great to have Jackson Griffiths in for one game and Sam Debien in for the last game of the season when he took the final wicket of the match to secure a win. Thanks also to Matty Jackson who came down to 4th grade from 3rds to help us out for a game. Some former CPCC juniors also played a game with us including Otto Schultz, Justin Soo and Eli Cox.

In addition to our juniors we had the usual wealth of experience with our senior players this year including Andrew ‘Deefa’ Davis, Tim Schultz, Jim Debressac, myself, and Norris Waters making a comeback this year to open the batting. Mossy also played a few games for us. Johnny Heiniger sat in for a few games (so to speak) and club enigma Luke Ireland even played a game. Graham Neasmith also helped us out in a few games. Whilst he didn’t play a game this year I thought I should also make mention of club stalwart Dean Storey, for coming along to support us and because I forgot to mention him in last season’s team report.

As is the tradition with the development team, a number of fathers played for the team. We had the fortune of an OSP from the subcontinent join the squad namely Arvind Rawat a.k.a. ‘Bugsy’ who really added some spice to the team. We also had tremendous support from Geoff Fairchild who helped out with scoring all season and Paul McGuire who was a fantastic supporter of the development team in many ways.

We ended up winning four games, we lost seven, and ended up seventh on the ladder. Whilst we did not win enough games this season to make the semis, we did our best to enjoy our cricket and the games we did win were memorable. Some of the impressive performances this season included: • The two Olies (Fairchild and Knight) starting the season with solid performances with the bat to help achieve a win in our first game of the season, Fairchild (38) and Knight (15). • Luke McGuire’s sterling performance with 42 no. in our second game of the season. • Luke Harvey singlehandedly securing a win in our first game in 4th grade with a 6 on the first ball of the last over & an impressive score of 47* • Nick Lee, Norris Waters and Jackson Griffith batting on in hot dusty conditions up at the Plateau to avoid an outright loss in our local derby against CPCC blue. • Paul Wendt’s ground-breaking performance with the ball bowling 10 overs against Wakehurst at Lionel Watts before he broke down for the season. • Olly Fairchild’s excellent bowling performance against Harbord Bowling Club with 3/28. • Nick Lee & Harry Ryals taking the opposition bowling attack apart to secure a win against Mona Vale in the 27th over. Ryals (26) & Lee (25). • Oli Knight’s solid performances with the bat in partnership with myself against Wakehurst (14*) and Mona Vale (32). • Harry Ryals taking 4 for 19 against Mona Vale to help secure a win in our final game of the season.

Our best performers with the bat were myself with (188 in 4th grade & 42 in 5ths), Luke McGuire (115 in 4th grade & 54 in 5ths) and Nick Lee with 127 runs. Our best bowler was Olly Fairchild with 10 wickets then Nick Lee (8 wickets), Luke McGuire (6 wickets), and unusually slim pickings for Deefa with only 6 wickets for the season off 51 overs with an average at 26.67. Tim Schultz was our best fielder taking some difficult catches and getting an impressive direct hit run out.

Thanks to everyone who provided their support to the development team this season. Particular thanks goes to Paul McGuire for liaising with me all season to organise juniors from the U16s – U18s Saturday morning team to play each week and for his support at the games. Thank you to Paul Wendt, Geoff Fairchild, David Ryals and all the other parents who supported the team. Many thanks to Jacko for getting things organised at the beginning of the season and for all his wisdom and support over the season.

I look forward to hopefully seeing everyone back again next season to continue to support the development concept and look at wining more games next year. A big thank you to Col for all of your help and to everyone at the Club for all of your support of the 4th Grade development team throughout the season.

5th Grade

At the start of the season this team didn’t exist and it was Camo’s team from last season who occupied the ‘Development Grade’ spot. Issues with team numbers in the U16-18 Div 2 left a group of our young cricketers at risk of not getting the opportunity of a season’s cricket. By grabbing a few dads and bringing in some U15 boys for their first taste of senior cricket, a new 5th Grade team was hastily put together and entered from round 3. This forced Camo’s team up to fill a vacant 4th Grade spot and we pushed on from there.

The 5th Grade ‘Development’ comp was an interesting one to say the least. There were a couple of clubs with true development teams (where senior players mentored and featured players from the morning competition), a couple of clubs playing for world domination and a couple having a bet each way. Being approached by the opposition Captain to toss the coin at 12:50pm on Saturdays with only four other teammates present became an exercise in stalling, guessing, fibbing and hoping. The team sheet was often pure speculation as I just wasn’t sure who was on their way, and what time they’d get there due to a number of the boys playing morning cricket & a few dart-throw fillers. As a result we struggled to compete most Saturdays (commencing the innings with barely enough players present to umpire and score can put a bit of pressure on the top order) however this wasn’t the aim of this exercise. In fact, it made the handful of competitive days all the more enjoyable – most of all our victory over Forest at Melwood Oval.

In the spirit of the ‘Development Team’ the boys are the focus of the awards. Our best all round performer was Rishi Raju who led the team with most wickets and scored the most runs of the boys. Thomas Bell gets the fielding award for taking the gloves for the first time and doing a great job behind the stumps. My encouragement award goes to Fynn Brown, who despite coming from the U15s, bowled beautifully and dug in with the bat against some very capable senior players. It was especially enjoyable to see dads playing with their sons. I had the pleasure of playing the first game with my oldest and hope we can provide the opportunity for many more parents to do likewise. Thanks Josef, Brent, Mick and Rob for your support and company.

Fielding five teams this season was always going to test our resources. A sincere thanks to Camo for accepting the move to 4ths and soldiering on, invariably scrambling on Friday night to fill a team with reduced resources to call on, and effectively shelving any plans on winning a premiership. The boys acquitted themselves brilliantly and were a joy to play with. They were keen to learn and by the season’s end had even grasped the key senior cricket concept of ‘Five O’Clock Runs’. I only hope they get to play the longer cricket format in the future as this season reinforced my belief in the fundamental values that two-day cricket can teach young people ie discipline, determination, patience, endurance, toughness. Thanks all for an enjoyable season. Col Huxley – Captain

Masters

After ten seasons in the Sydney Masters competition as a standalone team, this season we started a joint-venture with Mosman Masters and entered a Mosman/Collaroy Plateau team in the competition. We had been struggling with numbers most weeks for the past couple of seasons and with availability of turf wickets in Manly Warringah. Mosman were looking like they did not have the numbers for a team, and were a bunch of good blokes, so discussions were held which led to the creation of the exciting new joint-venture.

On the Plateau side of things, the players who turned out for the joint-venture this season included Mossy, Jason McLean, Dean Storey, Davey Bennetts, John Heiniger, Ash Perrott, me. The Mosman side of the joint venture brought the experience of Andre ‘Vara’ Varasdi, Dave Stepto, Daniel ‘Appsy’ Apps, Toby Aldred, Frosty, Central Coast lads - Scotty Atkinson and Lairdy, and of course, Warwick Adlam. Todd Harper also played one game. Vara was the inaugural team captain.

The joint-venture ended up being very successful for everyone with the team finding ourselves in second position on the ladder at the pointy end of the season, and about to play in the grand final against Auburn, before the opportunity was taken away, when the game was cruelly cancelled due to Covid-19, only days before the scheduled start of the game. Over the course of the season, we played nine games in total, winning eight of them and losing one. The loss came in the first round against previous season’s winner, Auburn. After that slight distraction, we made sure we were back on track the following game with a convincing win over Warringah. We then proceeded to win the rest of our games over the rest of the season. We played our home games at Allan Border and Rawson Ovals, and played our away games at Frank Gray, and various other far flung places including Camperdown Oval, Boronia Park at Hunters Hill and Oakville Oval. The way the Masters Competition works makes it extremely difficult for a team who loses any one game to remain in a position to remain high enough on the ladder to end up in one of the two top positions at the end of the season and qualify for the grand final. Not only does a team have to win all the rest of their games, but to have any chance, it is also necessary to maximise the bonus points received in each game over the course of the season. Luckily, our Captain Vara, is the ultimate strategist, and in addition to his significant efforts on the field, worked tirelessly throughout the season to make sure we maximised our bonus points, and remained competitive on the ladder.

At the end of the second last round, we found ourselves in equal second place with Warringah with one game to go with the team with more points after the next round to qualify for the grand final. All of Vara’s strategizing ended up paying dividends when after a low scoring game against Roseville Navy, we chased down 114 in 15 overs, to earn a total of 40.80 points for the game, which was sufficient to get us into second position (Incidentally, Warringah received 39.25 points in a win against Burwood Briars to end up behind us in third place by 1.5 points). Vara scored the most runs for the team this season with 221 runs with an average of 73.67. Together with Apps (182 runs at 60.67), these two were the best performers from the Mosman side of the ledger with each of them ending up ‘in the bank’ more often than not, including one occasion where Apps retired not out after getting to his 40 in under 4 overs. Lairdy and Scotty each batted superbly, as did Dave Stepto before his season was unfortunately rendered short with injury. Toby, Frosty and others all batted solidly, and Wick contributed with some good scores in the games he played (40 no. & Amp 35). Lairdy was our best bowler, with 13 wickets. Dave Stepto managed an impressive ten wickets despite only playing in four games. Jason McLean’s batting was the most impressive all season out of the CPCC stocks, keeping the scorers very busy as he made the opposition bowling appear to look like it was operating in slow motion as he proceeded to hit the opposition bowling to the boundary in all parts of the grounds with his array of well- timed shots earning himself a respectable 188 runs at 62.7, with a top score of 53 no. Mossy was our next best performer with some solid performances after returning this season after a lay-off due to his shoulder surgery, to end up with 128 runs at 32.0 with a top score of 49 no. Ash batted well all season and could usually be relied on to get some runs when we needed them, and overall appeared to fit seamlessly into the joint venture. John Heiniger was usually a steadying influence at the crease and scored some well-deserved runs this season. Dean Storey and Dave Bennetts, each bowled exceptionally well taking nine wickets each. Dave’s best figures this season were 3/6 and Dean’s, 3/26. Johnny Heiniger bowled like an old pro all season with every ball right on the money bagging a haul of four wickets for himself. Mossy managed to bowl a few overs when we needed some wickets in a tense part of the game against Macquarie University, and finished up with 3/19 off 2.2 overs, including taking the scalp of the opposition’s most threatening batsman.

Whilst it would have been really great to have had the chance to play in the grand final and disappointing to have been so close to have the chance to win the elusive Masters Competition and have it all taken away so quickly, at the end of our first season one thing to come out of it all is that the joint venture has been an outstanding success. A massive thank you to the Mosman Cricket Club, to CPCC, to the Masters players and all others who have supported us over the season. Hopefully the joint venture will continue to have a long and successful future. Camo

T20 Towers

The 2019/20 CPCC T20 season had a whole lot of hype surrounding it with rumours that former Plateau juniors would be returning to the club and don the famous Towers badge. Those rumours were to be proven correct with current Manly grade players Dom Wheeler, Jake Carden, Ash Virdi, Abhijeet Virdi (Warringah), Glyn Archer (North Sydney), Lachlan Charles, Ryan Bishop- Perrett (North Sydney), Lachie Kerr and Ruben Donato (Warringah) all making appearances throughout the campaign.

The mighty Plateau had a ripper regular season wining 4/5 round matches. This included: a thrilling last ball win against Wakehurst thanks to a ‘James Faulkner’esque’ finish by CPCC 1st Grader Brodie Elliott, and an absolute masterclass against a depleted Harbord with the D-MAN Deepenshu Dhiman taking a stunning 5/15 and Nick Bonner belting an unbeaten 58*.

Round 3 was an intense matchup against Cromer who also had a lot of Cromer Juniors and current grade players on their team sheet, however this was offset by a special appearance from NSW and Sydney Sixer Mickey Edwards for the Plateau. CPCC continued their winning ways with Lachie Charles starring with a classy 53. Round 4 was another dominant display against Long Reef with young superstars Ben Eady and Harry Ryals showing the older guys how it’s done with very mature T20 performances.

Unfortunately, this is where things went downhill with a loss in our final round games against a very clinical Beacon Hill. It then went from bad to worse with our boys going out in straight sets in the finals with Cromer giving us our final blow. Unfortunately, 63 from skipper Jake Carden wasn’t enough to get the side over the line in the semi-final.

Well Done to Cromer who were eventual winners of the T20 cup, a great bunch of guys and fully deserved champions. The Plateau will be back in 2020/21 (pending Global Pandemic) and will be looking to go two better in next season’s edition. To finish it off a massive thank you to all our players who made it a very fun and exciting season.

Back Row L-R: Ash Virdi, Nathan Logan, Deepanshu Dhiman, Abhijeet Virdi, Harry Brock, Mickey Edwards.

T20 Ogres

The Ogres – MWCA T20 Plate Champions.

Well who would have thought the Ogres would ever be Champions? After a final over win in the quarter final and a last ball win in the semi-final, The Ogres had a very convincing grand final win over the Chatswood Gypsies to claim the MWCA T20 Plate for the first time.

The ‘Faceless Men’ continued with their targeted recruitment policy, however once again only attracted a bunch of washed up old cricketers. After a very disappointing early season loss, the ‘Faceless Men’ expressed their disappointment by asking Paul ‘Hunch’ Hinchey to implement a very harsh fines system that did the trick and contributed greatly to our post grand final celebrations. In true Ogres fashion, a bowler won the batting award and a batsman won the bowling award with Ben ‘Tex’ Perkins and Martin ‘Moose’ Haywood’ respectively topping the batting and bowling stats for the whole competition. Moose took 11 wickets at an average and economy rate of just over 7, with a best performance of 4/19. Congratulations to Tex’ who was a very deserved winner of The Ogres Player of the Year Award! After coming into the team as a bowler, Tex finally realised that life as a batsman is much easier and then proceeded to smash 329 runs at an amazing ‘Bradmanesque’ average of 109.67! Tex now spends his time shadow batting in front of the mirror and checking his MyCricket stats.

A big thank you to Dom Wheeler for captaining the team and to all the lads who played for the Ogres this season, including 3 of the original Ogres (Dom, Wardy and KB) from our first game 8 seasons ago. A special thank you to our regular young guns – Braeden, Bailey and Daniel - who filled in when needed and showed us older guys how it is done. Thanks again to CPCC for supporting us and look out – we will be back bigger (well physically at least) than ever next season!

T20 Plate – Old Spice

CPCC Old Spice launched into the new season with zero training, an ever-declining skill set and at an all-time fitness low. The recipe was perfect and we performed in a predictable manner. Losing all 5 games was expected, in fact winning may well have spoilt things. With three seasons under our belts we are 0 wins and 15 losses. No doubt this is something for the record books.

Some stand out performances created excitement at times, a couple of hat tricks and a number of batting spells in the double figures buoyed the team to a couple of narrow defeats. Ali Whitely again led the team to a winless season, reinforcing his credentials as the perfect Captain. The Old Spice have already begun training for next season, with weekly net sessions. Various body parts have been repaired over the winter in preparation for the new season, including an Achilles, two shoulders, a knee and a new hip. We’re ready!

We meet every morning at 6:30am at Collaroy beach for sprints, should anyone from the Ogres wish to join us, just come along.

T20 Plate - Edisons

The Dad’s of the under 11’s (and a few other Plateau Dad’s) got together for some fun and entered into what we thought was a social Sunday afternoon T20 competition. Oh boy did we have some fun!!!!

A team of good blokes... Dave, Dave, Dave, David, Dave, Stu, Stu, Mark, Steve, Scott, Matt, Nick and Andrew... most of who had either not played for ten years or never played... had a crack! In the important games against our Plateau brothers we lost twice to the Ogres and won against the Old Spice. We were all pretty stoked to have taken the Ogres into the last over in the Quarter Final... and just wish the skipper hadn’t bowled himself for that second over early on (honestly the tennis players on the Plateau were getting worried)!!

In terms of on field performances our battalion of slow bowlers were really well led by Steve Milner with 7 wickets and the Dave Owen with 5 ... with the bat Dave ‘Bradman’ Rozenkowitz scored three fifties during the series and averaged over 60 and Mark Smithers grabbed a half century in the Quarter Final... but the batting performance of Matt “indoor” Morris impressed himself the most scoring 49 for the season and being forced to run himself out once just so he could get an average! We just had so much fun and were very disappointed that the virus meant our end of season review at the Sands was cancelled! We’ll be back!

Junior Secretary’s Report

The 2019-20 season ended on a whimper rather than the bang that such an amazing season on the field had promised. Instead of the planned final day of play where we had four teams battling for top honours, topped off by our end of season celebration at Plateau Park that evening, COVID-19 reared its ugly head and the season was brought to a very sudden halt with all play and end of season celebrations cancelled in the final week.

Junior Registration numbers were very healthy particularly in the 6–12 age group, allowing us to form a record 21 Junior teams, covering all age groups from Master Blaster through to U16-18s. We also continued our successful transition program from Juniors to Seniors with many of our U16-18 players and some U15 boys playing in both the Saturday morning and afternoon competitions.

For our U6’s we once again ran our very successful Friday night Woolworths Junior Blaster program. With 31 registrations, Friday nights were abuzz. The Friday night BBQ was also a big hit with families and helped to foster a sense of community. Once again we were able to form an additional Master Blaster (Saturday morning team) in the second half of the season with children who graduated from the Junior Blaster program. Our Master Blaster teams expanded to 6 and we achieved a new Club record in this age group. Once again Cricket NSW made available on field experiences for our youngest Club members. Eleven of our Junior Blasters won the ultimate experience when they walked out onto the SCG for the Sydney Test and stood with the Australian players for the Anthem Ceremony. Not to be left out, a select number of our Master Blaster players were also given the opportunity to go on field with the Australian and Indian Women’s teams at North Sydney oval.

Our Girls competition under the stewardship of our Girls Co-ordinator Cameille Handley, continues to go from strength to strength. The addition of two new U11 teams meant we were able to field a record 4 Girls teams this season. 2019 saw a return to the Kookaburra Cup for CPCC with participation in 2 x MWJCA U13 Girls teams organised by Cameille. In acknowledgement of the contribution made to Girls cricket at the Club and Association level, Cameille was awarded the Westfield Warringah Mall Junior Club Volunteer of the month.

The competition commenced in September for U12's and up, with the Master Blaster and Stage 1 teams underway later in October. This allowed us time to undertake for the first time a grading of the U10 and U11 teams supported by our Senior Club players. A cultural shift for CPCC but very common across the Association and in other codes. The new cricket formats continued to be rolled out with Stage 2 now incorporating U13’s. The MWJCA also trialed a white ball in this age group.

CPCC finished the season on a high with 4 Junior Premierships in the Saturday competition and 2 titles in the mid-week Manly Mini Bash competition. These premierships coupled with strong performances across the board from our Junior teams saw CPCC place second in the MWJCA Club Championship trophy, a fantastic effort.

PSSA tournaments • Raja Ganeshraj • Harley Cruickshank, • Arabella Handley • Brooke Lawson

Special mention to Tyrone Fender and Ben Eady who were the recipient of MWJCA Representative Player of the Year Awards.

The list of CPCC Junior players to earn selection for Grade cricket was increased by 4 this season with James Buchanan, Darcy Fleming and Hayden Calvert making their Grade cricket debuts for Manly Warringah Waratahs and Corey Calvert making his debut for Mosman. They join many other ex CPCC Juniors who are currently playing across all grades.

The funds raised from our end of 2018/2019 season raffle were used to great effect this season. We were able to offer a number of cricket clinics including Coach the Coach and wicket keeper training conducted by David Ford, nets sessions and holiday activities conducted by Jason Krejza, a cricket psychology workshop presented by Ollie Davies and a training session for our girls by Stella Campbell. It was fantastic to see our players engaging in these sessions.

I would like to mention our wonderful Committee, Coaches and Managers – thank you for all the hours that you spent ensuring that our kids were able to get on the field each week.

Registrations for the 2020/2021 season will be underway by the time this report goes to print, with the COVID 19 environment that we now operate under this will be a season like no other - looking forward to whatever challenges it brings.

U16-18 Charges

This massively talented cricket team started the season with a full squad of 16 players but once impressive performances started to emerge, players were called up for representative duties in grade and shires cricket. Luckily, we had a core group of about 11 each week, who saw us go almost all the way undefeated, only losing our last round match. The team finished clear minor premiers, which reflected some amazing performances. The team regularly posted batting scores between 200-300 runs from 30 overs in our one-day games. It is impossible to mention individual performances because there were many.

This team came together as two older junior teams merged into one. Under the joint captaincy of Luke McGuire/Luke Harvey, the boys enjoyed their cricket but most of all continued to learn the power and influence of positive teamwork. Every single player excelled and had significant contributions to the success of the team. Collaroy Plateau Cricket has a wonderful pathway for junior players to also play senior cricket, with all our players also playing each Saturday afternoon for teams from 1st to 5th grade. They love their cricket! The latter half of the season was somewhat interrupted, however, as we were clear minor premiers the Charges were awarded the 2019-2020 premiership. Although we were all disappointed with not being able to play the grand final, we were the best performing team all season and the boys should be very proud of themselves.

I wish to sincerely thank Marc Eady (Assistant Coach) who umpired almost every game, sometimes in very trying conditions! Thanks to all parents who helped in many ways, including Rob Cook, who attended many training sessions. Thank you to those who were a positive influence on the boys each game, always offering words of encouragement and support when required. As many of the boys move off to senior cricket next year, I hope you enjoyed the ride, as I did! Collaroy Plateau Cricket Club has some exceptionally talented cricketers coming through for next season’s senior teams. Paul McGuire – Coach Season Awards

15/2 Electric

2019/20 was a fabulous season for Team Electric. The boys put their greatly improved game together and proved week in week out, they were the best all-round team in the competition. A premiership was the just reward for their consistent efforts and strong team character which has defined them these past years. To see them all get a chance to develop the confidence required to finally show what they can do on the field was very satisfying. They had their challenges, but they dug deep when it mattered and rose to the occasion. Most importantly, they played like they enjoyed their cricket. Whilst the battle-hardened core of the team have been together for a few seasons now, the new boys joining the team this year were warmly welcomed and fitted in from game one. I think everyone had their ‘day in the sun’ this season taking wickets or scoring personal bests so the end result was truly a team effort. Several of the boys played in the senior afternoon development teams. Oli Knight and Ollie Fairchild were regulars in 4th Grade whilst Fynn Brown played often in 5ths. George, Alec and Jack played at times and all proved that they were well and truly capable of playing with the older boys and seniors. It showed in their rapid improvement on the field in the morning.

There were too many highlights to list in this report. For me, the things that standout from this terrific year were: · Captain Oli Knight’s maturity both as a leader and a batsman. He is the complete cricketer. · George’s pure stroke making, class and power batting. Team and Association batting honours & Assoc. ‘Cricketer of the Year’ for U15/2. · Fynn’s bowling was outstanding again but his 33 with the bat at Lake Park blew away his personal best score. · Ryan taking 3/5 at Curl Curl and 3/7 at Plateau Park & tying for most team wickets. · Alec’s 3/18 (including a miracle catch by his brother Sam) that turned a certain loss into victory v Cromer at Lake Park. · Jack quickly turning into one of the most feared six hitters in the competition and scoring his first ‘Fifty’. · Ollie Fairchild’s extreme pace and power hitting including his 58 at Lake Park which gave us something to bowl at. · Jorawar hooping those in-swingers and taking out ten batsmen tying him with Ryan for most wickets · Bobby opening the attack with pace and rhythm and his 3/10 at Plateau Park in round 4. · Toby’s 2/7 at Beverly Job v Cromer – both wickets caught by his good mate Ryan at mid-on. · Jago’s amazing consistency with the bat scoring 150 runs at an average of 30 with a highest score of 27. · Dylan’s blazing 43* at Plateau Park in our first game of the season as we chased down 160 to win in 24 overs. · Matt coming to watch his teammates each week whilst out of action, then making up for lost time and finishing with a batting average of 49.5.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get the opportunity to get together and celebrate as Premiers at season’s end – but we are still Premiers. I’ve commented often about how enjoyable these guys are to coach and this year was even better. They are fun, respectful and supportive of each other – and the same goes with the parents on the sideline. The team also enjoyed the great support of Susie Wendt as Manager, Paul Wendt entering the results into My Cricket, and a number of parents filled the dreaded scorer’s chair. Next season creates a number of challenges in terms of fitting players into appropriate ages and divisions as we’ve reached the broad age range of the U16-18 competition. This comp format is under review so we’ll see how it works out. Hopefully we’ll see the boys playing many more seasons of cricket together for CPCC. Col Huxley – Coach Season Awards

U14/1 Megawatts

The U14 Megawatts had a challenging season in 2019-20. Our 11 was made up of the remnants of two division 2 teams and playing in division 1 made for some tough assignments. We had more than our share of injuries/sickness/holidays/winter sport etc. with our full 11 being together for just 5 weeks of the season. Big thanks to the players who helped us out for a couple of weeks while we were short – every little bit helps.

We were winless throughout the season but on the positive side we were in good positions in a few games and were marching toward a win in the final game until cruelled by rain. It was particularly disappointing being so close and would have been a great way to finish off season. Credit to the boys who stuck at it and put in some gutsy performances. Particular recognition to Tyler Jones who was the all-round stand out performer and Noah Evans who topped the association bowling aggregate bagging a 5-for along the way.

Special thanks to all the parents who helped out and supported us all in many ways and to Lou for managing the team and being scorer extraordinaire!

U13 Storm

The 2019/2020 season was an enjoyable one for the Storm in which we welcomed 5 new players into our team. To end the season in 7th position was a great achievement. There were many wonderful qualities displayed by the Storm throughout the season: The experienced players consistently helping and encouraging those new to the sport; the support that players gave each other when things went wrong; the happy and encouraging nature of the girls at training and game day; the consistent and high attendance at training; the friendships that were fostered and the great sportswomanship the girls displayed at each game.

Of our experienced players Chloe Nichols led the way with both bat and ball. Chloe was brilliant in the field saving many runs and keeping the team switched on to the task at hand. Steph Davies turned into a real speedster with the ball developing good pace and handy outswing. She also made great contributions with the bat and always kept the girls spirits high. Brooke Lawson took the most remarkable catch of the season diving at full length to a full blown hook shot. Brooke displayed great agility in the field cutting off many a boundary. She is really developing a sound batting technique and with less run outs will score many runs in the seasons to come. Saoirse Ford bowled a consistent line with good inswing picking up some handy wickets. Her running between the wickets was a real feature of her game as was her talk and encouragement of the girls around her. Teshana Sheppard impressed with some really quick spells of bowling at times and developed a strong arm in the outfield. Teshana was always willing to put the team first and improved greatly with her batting, scoring some match winning runs. Suriya Ganeshraj took ownership of the wicket keeping role and developed good glovework behind the wickets. Suriya had some good innings during the season and showed great commitment to training. Lily Crabbe developed into a successful spin bowler after sitting out the first half of the season with an injury. Despite her injury Lily turned up every week to encourage the girls and showed how valuable a team player you can be both on and off the pitch. Sophie Cooper fitted into her new team environment with confidence and immediate success. Sophie bowled some fiery deliveries when she got her bowling rhythm right and hit some powerful shots in her batting. Sophie was always aware and switched on in the field. Priya showed great improvement in the second half of the season. Priya developed good accuracy in her bowling and gained more confidence in her batting. Priya took the best high catch of the season. Natalie Walton also became a consistent and accurate bowler who got some good wickets in the second half of the season. Natalie also batted in some good partnerships and developed a good hook shot. Ava Whatling showed a wonderful commitment to training and consistently gave her best. It was brilliant to see Ava pick up two wickets in a match to help us to a victory. Ava began to develop confidence in her batting and was a great team player. Leni Salmon always brought a smile and a good sense of humor to every game. Leni never feared facing the quicker bowlers and always put her hand up when the going got tough. Leni’s bowling became more consistent and her running between the wickets always scored her team some extra runs. Charlie Woods helped out when we needed an extra player. She came straight from her U/11’s fixture and played her second game of the day at short notice. Charlie showed great courage and skill against her older opponents and will be a force to be reckoned with in the U/13 competition next season. A great Club person.

Many thanks to our awesome manager Jenni Davies who did a remarkable with the roster and juggling of players. Her enthusiasm and encouragement of all the girls played a big part in the positive team spirit throughout the season. A big thanks to all the other parents who helped out in various capacities. Thanks to Alan Handley for all the assistance at training on Wednesday nights and congratulations to our training partners the Cyclones who were deserved Premiers. David Ford – Coach Season Awards

U13 Cyclone

Season Premiers! The Collaroy Cyclone 2019/20 girls U13 team are a team of champions not just because they managed to dominate the competition but as individuals too. The Cyclones started the season with three new members to the club and competition cricket. We had a squad of enthusiastic girls who were committed to the season through rain, shine and Coronavirus. The best part of the season was seeing the improvement in cricket skills in every individual player. A few seasons ago we could hardly avoid a wide or no-ball but this time we gave very little away bowling out one side for just 18 runs!! (including extras). Best bowling figures of 4 wickets for one run in just two overs!! The fielding was a massive improvement too with some stunning catches and a lot of run outs, assisted and direct hits!!! A massive contrast to a season ago where running away from the ball was the way to field.  Batting performances were also very strong and running between the wickets kept the sideline cheering and parents on their toes.

The semi-finals were rain affected but despite this the girls were extremely enthusiastic and eager to see the game through. Bowling first they restricted the runs to a manageable run chase. It was entertaining seeing wicket celebrations change from high fives to feet fives and elbow taps due to the initial stages of Coronavirus. Having started the chase well they were confidently on their way to a victory, but the rain set in and the game was called off. Unfortunately, the finals were cancelled due to Coronavirus but having won all games except one (lost by 6 runs with a player down) the Cyclones were dominant at the top of the ladder and deserved winners of the season. Girls cricket is so much fun and a what a lovely squad of girls we have at CPCC in the Cyclones and Storm. What a fantastic Season! Well done Premiers!!! Alan Handley – Manager

U13/1 Power

The boys had an enjoyable season where they all improved their individual games and enjoyed their cricket. We had some good wins and also went within a few runs of beating the eventual premiers yet again. Unfortunately, with some inconsistent performances, crucial matches being washed out, and a tough draw we ended up finishing in the bottom half of the table after going within a couple of runs of making the Grand Final the previous year. Such is cricket!

For the second season in a row we lost several players to private schools and this will happen again next season - for the last time hopefully! While the players that have come in have done a great job (thanks boys!), it takes time for coaches and teammates to understand each other’s strengths and weaknesses, and to balance the teams batting and bowling. It was great to see a leadership group emerge this season who increasingly took over the running of the team on the field. This year we awarded a Champion Player Award for the first time to Harley Cruickshank who was a standout, topping our batting, bowling and fielding stats in a great all-round effort. Harley is a very talented and dedicated cricketer who continues to work hard on his game and improve each season. Players like Harley do not get to star unless others around them do the ‘hard yards’ and the two players who won the batting and bowling awards laid the platform for the team by being regular openers – Tyrone Fender for batting and Daniel Blacker for bowling. Tyrone Fender is a natural opening batsman and did a great job getting the team off to solid starts often against some very tight bowling. Likewise, Daniel Blacker is a dangerous opening bowler who kept things tight at the start of the innings when their better players were looking to score.

Thanks again to all the boys and parents, especially those who helped out with coaching, umpiring and scoring – it was appreciated. A special thank you to James Carroll for doing a great job managing the team and keeping us all organised. I really enjoyed coaching the boys again this season and thank them for keeping their heads up and enjoying their cricket, even when things did not go our way. They are great group and it is a pity that several families will be leaving us again next season, however we wish them all the best and hopefully the boys will continue to play and enjoy cricket. Best wishes for future seasons,

U12/1 Electrons

Electrons are 201920 Premiers of 12/1! What an amazing season for the U12/1 Electrons team. For me this season, revolving around a wonderful team of boys, has been building and developing for six years. Many of this successful team started playing cricket at Collaroy with Paula and myself in the In2Cricket program. Some of the boys joined the Club this season and have added to the positive cricket culture of the squad. We only lost two games all season, with our fielding and miserly bowling/fielding getting us home on many occasions. A season where every boy has highlights and every boy stepped up to contribute to a win. In summary the side led by Lachlan Coy; Joint Premiers (with Wakehurst Red), finished first in the regular season, lost only two games all season, joint premiers of the Many Mini bash, five MWJCA rep players all of whom won rep competitions across the 11/1, 11/2 and 12/2.

Our Electron stars and selected highlights: Jayden Cook: 11/1 MWJCA Rep player, scored 2 fifties and led the batting statics, fielding at cover changed a number of games Lachlan Coy: 12/2 MWJCA Rep player, 2nd in run-scoring, leading wicket-taker & fielder, won multiple CPCC perpetual trophies, growing as a leader Darcy Horstead: 11/1 MWJCA Rep player, leading our run scoring until last couple of games (finishing third), high score for the season with 63*, second in the bowling statistics, really helped get the season going Archie Cooper: captain of the 11/2 MWJCA Rep team, his 3/19 helped restrict Harbord to 115 and set up our victory. Lewis Cruickshank: 11/2 MWJCA Rep player, 32 and 2/7 in the same game set us up for a win St Augustine’s Mark Emery: some significant top order batting contributions and retirements, and a memorable six into Allambie Heights Public School Thomas Jenkins: reliable tight bowling all season that contributed to a number of opposition low scores Kye Paxton: pre-Christmas Kye was a critical constant contributor with bat and ball, his enthusiasm in the field all season was vital Hugo Pilkington: our brave keeper, constantly kept the byes low & completed many run outs, scored important runs v Wakehurst Red in Round 1 Roy Stines: played some important innings, but none more so than against the top team when he scored 30 of the 41 needed after we were 4/7 with another player retired hurt Kobi Williams: 13 wickets with ever developing out-swingers, confidently putting his hand up to open the batting by the end of the season

I can’t thank enough the boys and the parents for making 2019/20 a wonderful cricketing experience. Your behaviour and support made it easy to play the role of both manager and coach, and I must give particular thanks to Marcus Cooper, Jason Cook and Anthony Cruickshank. I have won 7 senior premierships with the Plateau, but this first as coach certainly gives the most satisfaction. Things within the Club and the boys cricket will continue to evolve again next season and we may not see this group together again, but what amazing memories. I had hoped we might make the top four. Under 12/2 Neutrons

The 2019/20 cricket season gave the under 12 boys the first opportunity to play some more traditional cricket. This involved playing with a hard ball for the first time and getting used to walking off when getting out rather than staying at the crease until their quota of balls has been completed.

Early in the year the boys struggled to bat out their 20 overs. However, improvements in technique and learning patience at the crease meant we made the most of our allocated overs as a team. The team included Max Arcus, Charlie Blyton, Cooper Dickson, Sam Huxley, Liam Kelly, Liam Thomas, Dominic Loney, Jamie Walters, Caleb Catterick, Tyson Butler, Remi Tyacke. These boys really were a pleasure to coach. Their willingness to listen, work together as a team, and grow in their skills meant that they all had some individual success and success as a team.

Special mention to Tyson Butler for his bowling award, Dominic Loney for his batting award and Cooper Dickson for receiving the all-rounder award. I would like to thank all the families for the contribution throughout the season. The help you provided in scoring, umpiring, setting up grounds and the assistance at training was a great help to me as a coach. Cathie Butler was also amazing throughout the season as our Team Manager. We would not have had the season we did without all your emails, planning, finding extra playing when people are away etc. The boys should all be commended for the way they represented CPCC. The respect that you showed each other, and the opposition is a credit to them. Keep working on your technique during the winter, and I hope to see you all again next season. Drew Dickson – Coach

U11 Hurricanes

This was the first season of cricket for most of our girls and they did incredibly well to acquire the skills and play with a fantastic team spirit. We saw huge improvements game to game and by the end of the season there was some very attractive cricket being played. It would be unfair to call out individuals as the hallmark of the season was the way the girls worked together, and Lily, Sage, Helena, Harper, Emma, Aaleyah, Sonia and Amber did themselves and the club proud.

One thing is certain, we wouldn't have had the fun and success we did without the help of our great group of parents; scoring, training and keeping the girls entertained, thank you! And equally we had some wonderful substitute players, including Leni, Sophie, Priya, Alison and Charlie to name a few, we really appreciate your support!

U11/1 Lightning

Another fun year of cricket for the under 11 Lightning boys. The season started with a lot of promise with two half teams coming together from the under 10s in the previous season. The boys learnt a lot in the first half of the season losing a number of games by very close margins. Eventually they listened to their coach and started to run between the wickets better, back each other up in the field and work together in pairs when batting. They even started giving each other very poor nicknames ... proving that they are truly becoming cricketers!

The boys should all be really proud of the way they developed as a team through the year and especially how we finished the season with a win against the team that was coming first (and subsequently ended up 3rd). They really started figuring out their strengths and weaknesses and working to plans especially when batting. A special call out to Caden and William who played in the undefeated Manly U/11-2 representative side and did themselves and their club proud ... their discipline and enthusiasm drummed into them by John Jackson really rubbed off on the team. With such a strong group of bowlers it was a tough decision but Nick Brown who grabbed a lot of wickets with his amazing bag of tricks got the bowling award for the year. Harry McClure found his groove in the second half of the year with the bat. I was especially proud of the way he learned to work with his batting partners when running between wickets... really leading the way in a lot of partnerships.

The coaches award for the all-rounder of the year went to Michael Morris who was just behind Nick on the wickets and also just behind Harry in runs scored. I also just love the way Mikey keeps running in hard with the ball each week.

I hope the boys enjoyed themselves, it was a pleasure to coach them and really pleasing to see them becoming better cricketers over the year.

U11/1 Force

The season started on a sunny Saturday morning at Davidson, a new team with one training session under our belts, the boys soon learnt the bowling had gone up a notch this year and if you played across the line often enough and miss you will get bowled. The first few games saw this a regular occurrence, our bowling and fielding was solid however the number of outs saw mixed results before the Christmas break. Training sessions were well attended and saw lots of straight bat practicing!

The boys obviously spent the Christmas break practicing the straight bat shots and the second half of the season started with much improved batting and many proper cricket shots being played. Our bowling and fielding also improved with direct hits for run outs and consistent bowling utilising new skills (swing, cross seamers and spinners) saw us winning more games. Our last game of the season was a wet one, thanks to all that toughed it out and saw us push one of the best teams in the competition all the way, playing a great brand of cricket. There were lots of great individual performances (Runs, Direct Hits and wickets), however it was the ‘team first’ attitude that was most pleasing- no one complaining where they bowled or batted and always someone to put the hand up to Keep.

A big thanks to David Ford and the club for arranging the Coach the Coach session, it was invaluable in helping me help the boys this year. Thanks to Manager Daniel who had us well organised and the great bunch of parents who were always willing to help and support.

I look forward to seeing the boys continue their Cricketing Journey next year. Scott Cheetham - Coach

U11/1 Thunder

The team played our 3rd year together which showed as the boys all played as a team and gave great support to each other out on the field with all players making valuable contributions. We found this season a little more challenging with the skill level throughout the competition, we found the bowling to be of high standard making it hard to score runs. The team's skills continued to improve throughout the year with everyone batting, Zac Smithers 2/7 off 2 and Archie Stanford 1/3 also off 2. We are very proud of the boys and hope to see them all again next year in the under 12s for the CPCC. Special thanks to Harvey Nolan for helping with the coaching and to Julie Stanford in her first year as manager doing an excellent job, also thanks to all the parents for the help on game day.

Lachlan Nolan - Lachy bowls really good line and length but this year it was his batting that really improved with some really nice straight bat shots Zac Smithers – Zac’s batting suits this form of the game hitting 26 fours and scoring 189 runs for the season. Charlie Stevenson - Charlie has great batting technique scoring 186 runs, his bowling strong resulting in 11 wickets. Archie Stanford – Archie bowls with good pace and movement off the seam, he bowled 25 overs for just 70 runs with a best figures of 3/4 Hayden Ling – Hayden is a good all-round cricketer & shows great concentration in the middle. He took 11 wickets with line & length deliveries. Cooper Brown – Cooper’s bowling continues to improve, and he surprises many batters with his pace giving him 8 wickets this season. Evan Milner – Evan’s batting was great with some excellent shots and he worked hard on not giving away his wicket. Ethan Hall – Ethan’s batting really improved from the previous season; his front foot shots were particularly impressive. Sam Debnam - Sam is a keen cricketer as his batting showed with some great hitting at times. Kasey Owen – Kasey’s bowling continues to improve with best figures of 1/6.bowling and fielding better than when we started.

A highlight for the season was the boys winning the U/11 Mini Bash final with a comprehensive win v Peninsula Pacers 5/132 v 6/42. Under 10/1 Flash

The Under Flash 10s Division One team had a strong season. They won some games, they lost some games but throughout they maintained a willingness to try their hardest. Over the course of the season, they learnt to talk to each other on the field, to encourage and support one another. Under Scott’s patient coaching they all saw improvement in their batting, bowling and fielding. A big thank you to Scott for his encouragement and support of our kids both on and off the field. Thank you to Caroline and Nadia for ensuring that we all knew where to be and when, and for making sure that the scores were uploaded correctly each week. Thank you to Sarah and Geoff for taking on the mind game of the score book each week. And a big thank you to all the parents for their assistance at training and for cheering on the team at the games.

And well done to each of our players - Jake – good allrounder delivering in both bowling and batting Levi – great batting from Levi this season Ryker - great first season of cricket Thomas – big hitting from Thomas this season – keep it up! Josh - dedicated and developing as a strong bowler and wicket keeper Imaan – amazing improvement over the course of the season Harry - excellent team player Clyde - worked with great focus to improve his skills Hudson - excellent effort behind the wickets!

Under 10/2 Energy

U10 Energy had an up and down season, but if it was training or playing, they always gave 100%, were ready and willing to learn, always supportive of each other and having fun. There were wins, loses, draws and abandoned games.

It was my first season of involvement with cricket of any standard for about 25years!! It was the team’s first season together, with a good mixture of those that had played in previous seasons and a few new players, all with differing abilities and strengths. Training sessions went well, with plenty of time in the nets practicing basic bowling and batting skills, we were also able to use the pitch area for fielding, throwing and some valuable calling and running between the wickets practice. By the end of the season much of this had come together, there were some great bowling and batting performances along with some great fielding.

Our award winners were: Bowling Award: Harper Hine – Harps bowled well all season, he was consistent, fast and accurate and would have taken a lot more wickets had LBW been in play. Batting Award: Ethan Thomas – No matter what number he was batting at, Ethan was always was keen and ready to play his shots, hitting the ball with power and running fast between the wickets. All Rounder Award: Georgie Stines – Georgie did well, she gave 100% in all areas of the game during a match and at training, bowling, batting, fielding and was great as Wicketkeeper.

Thank you to our Team Manager Felicity, for her efforts making sure all the rosters were organised, getting us to the venues on time and covering the scoring. Well done everyone and thank you to the parents that stepped up and helped throughout the season.

Master Blaster - Atoms

The Atoms came together in October as a bunch of lads who had never played cricket. They finished the season in March as a real Cricket Team.

As a coach I couldn't be prouder or have asked to get a better group of boys. We have seen the boys improve in bowling and batting technique. What has been most impressive is the way they communicated as a team and supported each other Hard work in training began to show on the pitch, with some outstanding fielding and running between the wickets, massively improved bowling and some great catches.

It's been really hard deciding on who gets the awards. Each boy deserves recognition. Tommy for learning how to bowl with a straight arm and his batting. Will for his improvement in bowling and a really elegant batsman. Harry for having to deal with his dad as coach and always being a reliable bowler/batter Harrison for being the most improved player in the team Liam for listening and being the best all-rounder on the team Batting - Charlie Bowling - Max Training - Cuinn Training - Charlie

Thanks to Jen as manager, an absolute legend and to James for his help in coaching. And finally thanks to all of the parents. What this last season has taught me is the importance of community. Your support and help has been instrumental in seeing the boys come together as a great team. I congratulate you all for raising such great lads.

Master Blaster - Sparks

The season started slowly for us with quite a few of the kids playing the first season but with lots of enthusiasm we began the season quite well. The boys were able to grasp the basics of the game quite quickly and improved every game.

Bowling as always is the hardest skill to grasp and slowly over the season the boys become consistent at landing the ball on the pitch. Their fielding improved out of sight and batting as always is the favorite skill for all the boys with some memorable shots being played. The games were always played in the right spirit by the boys with the local derbies always that much more competitively played.

As the coach it was with great satisfaction that I saw such a great improvement over the season and the boys hopefully enjoyed themselves as well. Special thanks to Sally & Julian Debnam for their support over the whole season.

Master Blaster - Gigawatts

2019/2020 was an extremely enjoyable and exciting season for the Gigawatts team. Returning players from the previous season were Ryan Rosenkowitz, Lenny Drape, Will Kalms, Theo Pappas and Fred Tickle and we were very lucky to strengthen the team with Thomas Graham, Xander Scott and Joseph Baker.

Coaching every single one of these boys was a joy and pleasure as their enthusiasm and willingness to practice hard and really have fun and enjoyment playing cricket shone through. They all played in the right spirit towards their opposition as well as encouraging and congratulating their own teammates. Starting the season five of the boys were 7 or 8 years of age, however, we also had Thomas who had just turned 6 and Ryan 7 years of age. It was amazing to watch Thomas Graham who at the age of 6 was bowling very impressive and consistently good leg spinners. His continual enthusiasm, smile and good all round cricketing skills meant he fitted in very well with his new team. At 7 years of age Ryan is already a very good all-round cricketer and with his batting already has an amazing eye, technique and timing. Xander Scott was a new member to the team and quickly showed massive improvement with his bowling and quickly became a very important member of the team. Not only did Xander show great bowling and taking many wickets, he also had week on week the cleanest and whitest cricket kit I've ever seen! Joseph Baker was also new to the team and to cricket. From having never played cricket Joe quickly grasped bowling and catching and by season's end was the most improved player in the team. Lenny and Will returned from the previous season and continued with their upward improvements in all areas of bowling, batting and fielding. Also Fred and Theo returned and improved greatly in all areas, Fred with his leg spinners and Theo with his batting and fielding.

It was interesting to watch how all these boys were influenced by watching the Big Bash and wanting to bowl leg spin and hit sixes. Thank you to Siobhan Drape for assisting with the admin side and all the parents for helping with scoring and encouraging the team every week.

I am looking forward (and hoping) to coach all these boys again next season if they chose to continue playing cricket.

Master Blaster – Kilowatts

The CPCC T20 Masterblaster Kilowatts team entered the 2019/2020 season with spirit and enthusiasm to learn the great sport of cricket.

Split evenly between boys and girls, there was plenty of talent and potential between them. It was encouraging to see them improve from week to week as they learnt about the various basic rules and techniques and putting them into practice. Best of all they ended up with a great smile at the end of the day no matter what the result. They had fun.

A special thanks to all the parents who helped out at training and volunteered for scoring.

All the best,

Master Blaster – Electrodes

After participating in the Junior Blaster Program these boys were super keen for more cricket. They all have great skills, a huge amount of enthusiasm, and about as much concentration as you would expect from a bunch of 6/7 year olds.

Congratulations boys and we can’t wait to see your cricket futures unfold.

A highlight of the season for some of the boys was being selected to attend the Sydney Test Match where they accompanied the Australian test players out onto the ground for the National Anthem.

Master Blaster – Volts

In our first ‘full season’ as a team, we have seen the boys come on enormously. For a lot of the boys, it was their first venture into competitive cricket. At the start of the season, some couldn’t straighten the arm when bowling, didn’t know which end of the bat to hold or know how to cup the hands when catching. By the end, we had all bowling correctly, feet were moving when batting & catches were being taken.

Our players were: • Cruz Cruikshank: Cruz is a talented all-rounder from a strong cricketing family. He was superb with bat & ball all year. Great year Cruz. • Ethan Brooks: Ethan is a fast bowler & a big hitter. He knocked over numerous batsmen with his pace this year. Can’t wait to see you progress further next season Ethan. • Finn Mathie: Finn was a huge improver throughout the year. His batting was a real strong-point by mid-season and his left-arm bowling came on really well by seasons-end. Can’t wait to see him keep stepping up in 2021. • Grayson Jacobs: A really talented left-arm fast bowler. Grayson has all the makings of becoming a really fine allrounder. Has the natural ability to achieve over the coming years. • Harry Wheeler: Harry is a joy to coach. He really worked hard on all aspects of his game & by season’s end, was a really strong contributor with bat & ball. 2021 will be the year for Harry. • Hudson Geercke: Hudson loves his cricket & his bowling got so much better throughout the year. A keen runner between wickets who loves his cricket. See you in 2021 mate. • Jude Rigby: Jude had a great year. He has a natural eye with the bat & great technique with the ball. I know he will get better & better next year. • Max Verrills: By the end of the season, Max was bowling at good speed, with his arm coming over his ear as it should. Took some great catches in the outfield. He can’t wait for next season.

JUNIOR BLASTERS

Junior Blasters is for kids new to cricket with participants building their skills through fun, game-based activities.

The games are designed for small groups to ensure every child gets a go, allowing them to test and learn new skills. When they have mastered the basics they will be ready to graduate to Master Blasters where they can play modified games of cricket.

The registration fee not only gets your kids a weekly cricketing program but also gets them some great gear - a hat, shirt, bat and ball - to get them started. Join in the fun on Friday evenings at Plateau Park (starting late October). For more information contact [email protected].

CPCC Greats Star in Albury Grand Final

CPCC legends Luke Arcus and Rob Dennis found themselves in the same team (Lavington Panthers C Grade – Albury) for the 2019/20 grand final. The match was umpired by another ex-CPCC great Russell Murray. The Plateau connection saw the Panthers home (R Dennis 74*) for a GF victory with Russell no doubt playing his part as well. 53
