We’ve seen rain wash away finals but never anything like the chaos brought on by the threat of Covid-19. It not only brought playing to a premature end, but also forced the cancellation of all post-season gatherings including presentation days, team functions and senior end of season trips. In terms of finals cancellations, CPCC fortunately had the better outcome for once as all five of our grand final bound teams ended up being awarded Premierships as the highest ranked teams. A great reward and reflection of the consistent strength these teams demonstrated across the entire season. Special mention to senior player Blake Conde who’s massive 852 runs for 4th Grade this season was good for second highest season total of all time and included four centuries.

1987/88 YEAR BOOK 1 INTRODUCTION TRISTRAM FLETCHER This year book has been created in 2018, to fill a gap in our history. If there is an error in this publication, please bring it to our attention so we can update the club’s history. If you are one of the captains listed or played a part in one of the teams and think you can write a report, feel free to write something up and send it to me for inclusion. Also, if you have any photos forward them to me at [email protected] I hope you enjoy the 1987/88 year book. Regards Tristram Fletcher President – Applecross CC (2018) Cover Photograph: Our latest life member Peter Hewitt (#3) 2 PRESIDENTS REPORT VAL STEENHOLDT In a season of many highlights, including the introduction of a fourth XI and 3 out of 4 teams making the finals, the major achievement was the second grade premiership, which gave the club promotion to first grade for the first time. Peter Spencer was again captain/coach, Eric Taylor was awarded fifth grade captaincy and Val Steenholdt retained captaincy of the seventh grade. The success of the previous season had attracted the interest of a number of cricketers and the decision was taken to introduce a fourth XI in eighth grade. To gain Association approval for the extra team the club negotiated the use of Winthrop Oval as a home ground. Melville City Council had laid a new pitch at the oval and it was used by seventh and eighth grade during the season.

Looking through what has already come in for this year's Chronicle, and what went in last year's Chronicle, there are trips run by staff to far-flung places (Mount Blanc, Iceland, Texas, Abergavenny and Stokes Bam to name but a few); There are articles about pupils' work in Stage Crew, PSG, Cot Fund, and at Andrew's Coppice; There are reviews of five or six school plays and the same number of concerts and lunchtime recitals, there are sports tours in exotic locations and numerous societies. Behind each of these activities there is a member of staff, and a number of pupils, each contributing in their own way, each giving up their free time - be it to organise the trips, to organise a society meeting, or to visit elderly people, or to organise Cot Fund events. It is these people, whom the school has brought up in "godliness and good learning", who have earned for the school a reputation that is second to none.

1989/90 YEAR BOOK 1 INTRODUCTION TRISTRAM FLETCHER This year book has been created in 2018, to fill a gap in our history. If there is an error in this publication, please bring it to our attention so we can update the club’s history. If you are one of the captains listed or played a part in one of the teams and think you can write a report, feel free to write something up and send it to me for inclusion. Also, if you have any photos forward them to me at [email protected] I hope you enjoy the 1989/90 year book. Regards Tristram Fletcher President – Applecross CC (2018) Cover Photograph: 1st XI Captain Peter Spencer 2 PRESIDENTS REPORT PETER HEWITT The success of the previous 3 seasons had come at a cost, particularly due to the expense of importing John Wright the previous season and attracting quality players such as Peter Spencer. The club finances were in precarious shape at the start of this season and the new committee took steps to return the club to a stable footing during the season. Overall, the season was modest on the field, with no team featuring in the finals, but was an excellent and important season financially. 3 TREASURERS REPORT STEPHEN MELVILLE Need details of the Treasurers report. 4 EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE PRESIDENT VICE PRESIDENT TREASURER SECRETARY PETER ROD STEPHEN TIM HEWITT HAYS MELVILLE DOWNEY COMMITTEE COMMITTEE COMMITTEE COMMITTEE BRETT GEORGE ADRIAN HEDLEY McGREGOR PRINCE REYNOLDS SKEHAN COMMITTEE COMMITTEE GORDON DEBBIE MacPHERSON CLARKE 5 1ST XI CAPTAINS REPORT PETER SPENCER Played: 11 Won: 4 Lost: 5 Tie: 1 Draw: 1 Position Finished: Mid table DID NOT PLAY FINALS The 1st XI (1st Grade) captained by Peter Spencer had a disappointing season, the team winning 4 games and tieing one other (as well as a washout) to finish mid-table.
