This will provide a wonderful insight of the club to any new future players , coaches , sponsors and international cricketers. You will notice in the year book we have asked the captains to nominate outstanding individual , pair and team performance so the club can identify the clubs greatest 100 performances in the clubs history. In the near future once the club has identified the greatest 100 performances in history the process will take place to identify the greatest performance of all time. I would like to thank the many people who helped contribute to the production of the year book there are to many to mention but I would like to especially thank Carrington Shepherd. Next season will be very exciting for the club as it will be the 30 year anniversary of the club winning its first ever premiership , 20 year anniversary of the club winning its 4th premiership in 5th grade and the 10th year anniversary of the club winning its first ever 1st grade premiership. If there is an error in this publication please bring it to our attention so we can update the clubs history. I would like to dedicate this year book in the memory of Carol Prince who passed away this year. I hope you enjoy the 2010 /11 year book. Photographs courtesy of Pleasant Photography. www.pleasantphotography.com.au Page 3 PRESIDENTS REPORT JOE VENTER Results: After winning the first game of the season the first side once again struggled to find winning form in the A Grade competition. We managed to beat the eventual wooden spoon winners in round 6 but after nine rounds were still two and seven and firmly in the relegation zone. An excellent win against arch rivals Whitfords in round 10 was enough to see us keep our position in the A grade – al be it by one wicket (or eleven runs) over the entire season. The second and third sides won the minor premiership and together with the 8th grade, Colts and One Day Division 3 side played in the finals. We made two grand finals (8th Grade and Colts) and lost both of those. As a club we have not had a single premiership in two years despite fielding eight teams and making the final four on nine separate occasions. We no doubt have the depth, and the talent, to compete but have not delivered on our potential. As most of you are aware we have appointed Mark Hullett as non playing coach and Ben Christie as captain of the A grade for next season. With these two gentlemen heading up the cricket department, and the continued support of Val Steenholdt and Mike Kapiteyn I am confident that next year will be productive for the club. Financial: As you can see from the treasurer’s report we have had a great year financially. I must caution however that some of our expenditure is cyclical and we have enjoyed the benefit of not spending on a number of major items. The decrease in bar profits continued. The incoming committee needs to work on strategies to get members back to the club. Turf: I reported last year that the City of Melville were about to conduct an “Active Reserves Needs Study” and that Shirley Strickland Reserve would have a Master Plan undertaken for it. The study was finally submitted to council last month. I understand that the recommendation to council is for a second oval to be established on the northern side of the complex which will give the reserve two cricket / football ovals. The prospect of having two home games at Stricko is an appealing one. The study also observed the ACC’s desire for a turf wicket and noted that they could not see a downside to this. The biggest concern is the allocation of water. After many years of talk I believe the time for a formal application to council has come. We will however need to get this right and if we need to spend money on getting the application written up correctly then we will do so. General: It is with sadness that I include in this report the passing away of Carol Prince earlier this year. Carol was a great supporter of the club and a previous winner of the President’s trophy for her contribution to the club. On behalf of all past and present members of the ACC I extend our sincere sympathy to life member George and his sons on their sad loss. Page 4 PRESIDENTS REPORT “CONTINUED” Thanks: I would like to thank the following for their work and help during the year. Firstly to Val for his dedication and commitment to the smooth running of the nets and also to Lorraine for providing an affordable feed on presentation nights. To Dec for taking on the very difficult task of pulling together a new look side and dealing with some difficult personalities. Thanks also to all the other captains who were very good at get- ting their administrative tasks done on time. Thanks to Michael Kapiteyn, for his tireless efforts in ensuring that we fielded a side every week, and for his dedication to the role as chairman of selectors. Angus Castley has indicated a need to rest from the committee this coming year due to increased family commitments. His contribution will be sorely missed. Thank you Angus for your help and support over the past two seasons. Finally thanks to the rest of the committee for their work and support, in particular to the executive in Scott Curren and Murray Tribbeck. Conclusion: I will make myself available as president again for this coming season, should the members wish to elect me. However, I have always been of the opinion that a club needs fresh leadership on an ongoing basis to survive and grow. I therefore wish to put the club on notice that this coming season will be my last as president. Regards Joe Venter. President. Page 5 ACC TREASURERS REPORT MURRAY TRIBBECK I'm very please to announce the club made a annual profit of $13,865.08 for the 2010/11 season. I would like to thank the following club sponsors Colin Lamb , Highbury Homes , H.S. Sales ,Glen O’Brien Realty , Myers Ptd Ltd , Russell Brown at Travel Associates and Paul Barber. The club auction made a record profit of $6,220.00 which continually grows and is a wonderful fundraising event. The bar turnover this year was $35,017.25 , Purchase Costs $ 17,640.85 , AMPSA Rent $2,940.00 , Wages $6,537.00 , Vouchers $ 998.50 with a net profit of $ 6,900.90 which is 20% net profit of turnover. The clubs overall financial view is we are debt free and have a total of $65,642.93 held in the three Accounts as stated below. 2010 / 11 Asgard Term Deposits Profit & Loss Statement Investment Fund Fund Income $69,667.70 Opening Balance $10,850.80 Opening Balance $22,277.10 Expenditure $55,802.62 Interest $ 644.80 Interest $ 1,465.74 Annual Profit $13,865.08 Closing Balance $11,495.60 Closing Balance $23,742.84 Balance Brought Fwd $16,539.11 Closing Bank Balance $30,404.49 AUDITOR’S REPORT These treasurers report still requires auditing by an independent company or individual as per the clubs constitution. AMPSA TREASURERS REPORT (Applecross Mt Pleasant Sportsman's Association) ADRIAN REYNOLDS For the 2009/2010 financial year, October - September, AMPSA made a profit of $1364. The bulk of this is from club rent and the hire of facilities (club rooms) and training lights. The training lights on both the rugby fields and the football oval are owned and operated by AMPSA. The City of Melville has recently agreed to pay for maintenance on the training lights for the good of all users. Although cheaper for AMPSA this process is much slower. Page 6 CHAIRMAN OF SELECTORS REPORT MICHAEL KAPITEYN Thankyou to Joe and his Committee for entrusting me with this role for the 2010/11 season. My first job was to find another selector. Chris Teede came to mind instantly. He has an intimate knowledge of all things ACC and has always been interested and opinionated on selection matters. Chris was outstanding for the first couple of games, however work commitments ended his position prior to Christmas.

Peter Spencer was again captain/coach, Eric Taylor was awarded fifth grade captaincy and Val Steenholdt retained captaincy of the seventh grade. The success of the previous season had attracted the interest of a number of cricketers and the decision was taken to introduce a fourth XI in eighth grade. To gain Association approval for the extra team the club negotiated the use of Winthrop Oval as a home ground. Melville City Council had laid a new pitch at the oval and it was used by seventh and eighth grade during the season.

The idea received a positive response from those who fell into this category and Chas set about the task of arranging the team and entering a competition. The West Australian Suburban Turf Cricket Association (WASTCA) was the logical choice as a competition and Chas received great assistance and advice from the late Des Penman, then the secretary of the Association, in forming a team. Chas Eadon Clarke Some stumbling blocks were encountered. Chas had hoped to name the team "Aquinas" or "Old Aquinians" and use the College's cricket facilities for training and as a home ground. However, the college administration would not allow use of their facilities. Also, the WASTCA were pushing clubs to form "suburban" identities and would not allow use of the name Aquinas.

  • Kent County Cricketers a to Z
Kent County Cricketers A to Z Part Two 1919-1939 By Derek Carlaw Statistics by John Winnifrith This collection of biographies have been written, on behalf of the ACS, by Derek Carlaw. For those readers wishing to obtain more detailed statistical information, it is recommended that a search is undertaken on the relevant pages of the CricketArchive website ( http://cricketarchive.com/ ). Kent County Cricketers A to Z Part Two 1919 to 1939 Introduction Part Two of the Kent A to Z covers the 92 cricketers who made their entry into first-class cricket for Kent between the wars. With 12 Championship titles, 330 wins and only 49 defeats, Yorkshire dominated throughout the two decades, but Kent could reasonably claim to be the most successful of the Southern counties, twice ending runners-up and in only three seasons failing to finish in the top half of the table. During those inter-war years, cricket was becoming increasingly professional. Of the names listed in the county averages in the 1921 Wisden, over 57% were amateurs. By 1931 the figure had fallen to 41%; and in the last pre-war season it was down to 33%. Kent, in common with one or two other counties, fought hard against the prevailing trend. Throughout the period, they stuck to their long- established policy of endeavouring to field a minimum of three amateurs in every match. In practice, they were quite frequently unable to do so, especially early in the season but, of the 92 cricketers listed in the following pages, 60, i.e. over 65%, were, in the idiom of the time, ‘Gentlemen’.
