There are too many to mention. If there is an error in this publication please bring it to our attention so we can update the clubs history. I would like to dedicate this year book to John Trueman who is battling cancer . John was a member of the clubs first premiership team. We all wish him well in his biggest battle in life, our thoughts are with you mate. I hope you enjoy the 2012 /13 year book. Recuitment: During the off season the committee re- appointed Mark Hullett as a non playing coach, Ben Christie as the A Grade captain for his second season and Luc Durandt and Quirijin Gunning as overseas players for the year. We also recruited a number of quality young cricketers with WACA experience, these players fitted into the club well and improved our depth even further. As with the previous season we also negotiated playing incentives for a number of A grade players and were delighted to see the A grade team reach finals comfortably this season. As these players gain experience in this tough competition they are showing real signs of quality and improvement. The fact that we recruited quality players also had the desired effect of strengthening the teams through the grades. To this end we made finals in all grades (finishing in the top 3 in all). This was a magnificent achievement that everyone should be proud of throughout the club. In the process we were fortunate to win the Way 79 Club Championship for the second time in our history. This was a culmination of all the efforts from previous seasons. Results: As previously mentioned all eight of our sides finished in the top 3. To highlight this fact our top 3 sides combined only lost 5 games from a total of 33 fixtures. The A grade finished the season with a 9 and 2 record and finished in third place. If it wasn’t for a slip up against Bassendean in round 10 we would have finished in a well deserved top spot. As it stands the side was in a strong position to win the semi final against the eventual premiers Bentley, but couldn’t make the required runs. If the club able to keep the majority of the side together they should build on this solid season and should expect at least finals again in 2013-2014 The 3rd grade finished the season in 2nd spot and won their way through to the GF. Once again batting was our Achilles heel in the GF where we were unable to chase down the runs. 5th grade also finished second and unfortunately were unable to get through the semi finals. 6th grade won through to the GF and as with the other sides were unable to chase down the runs to win the flag. 10th Grade, one day 1’s and 3’s all had solid and consistent seasons but were all unfortunately beaten in the semi finals. One day div 2 made their way into the GF but were left 2 runs short of victory. Building on last season’s report we have now had 21 finals campaigns without a flag. This is stretched over the last four seasons. Whilst it is obviously fantastic we are making finals consistently we need to be stronger at the time that it matters in the season. I will be exploring this at the AGM with a view to the 2013-2014 season. Turf Development: The formal application has been made to the City of Melville for a turf table to be laid at Stricko. The council moves very slowly and the “Active Reserves Needs Study” is still “being discussed”. Our application is in, we have the financial means and we must now apply whatever pressure we can to fulfil our turf dream. Anthony Moffitt is in constant contact with the City of Melville as our opportunity gets nearer every season. Page 4 PRESIDENTS REPORT “CONTINUED” Financial: Firstly I would like to say that the efforts of previous presidents and committees to get the club in such a strong financial position should not be underestimated and should be applauded. The majority of the funds have been invested in a long term account which is gathering an excellent rate of interest. The club ran at a manageable loss this season this was due to the following reasons. We invested $ 8,000 ($ 1,000 donated by Ardross juniors) on the upgrade of the nets this season. This will have two long term benefits. The bowler will have less impact on the body due to the run ups and we should get more longevity out of the training balls we use. Three players in the A grade had good enough seasons to achieve incentives. Whilst it obviously cost the club it was also a good reflection on the quality of the side. Two of our fundraising initiatives were down on the previous season by approximately $ 3,000. We also replenished a lot of the club kits plus added an entire new kit for the new 8th side. In terms of money coming in the drive to bring more money in was successful with the Sponsorship this season. It is a good opportunity for players to get a free season. It is also the best way to bring in the required extra money a potential new turf wicket would need each season. It is of vital importance we do everything in our power to keep the sponsors happy. This is not just a committee objective, but all members of the club to support the sponsors. We turned over in excess of $ 80,000 this season. A lot of thanks should go once again go to Murray Tribbeck for his tight control and systems. Thanks: Tony Moffitt, for general support, auction night and assistance with sponsorship and SOP and the Super pre season. Thank you to Murray for keeping the finances in check throughout the year (doing it for 7 years & seen us to a position of strength). Lenny’s tireless work with email and registrations, plus help around the club. Communications have been superb this year. Shubby for updating the stats week in week out. Providing stats on milestones etc. Carmo collecting fees, Salt Sixes & general support. Brad Weir for the outstanding Crosswords and quiz nights. Chade’and Megan for assistance through the year and the successful 100 club. Coops for assistance with auction night, 100 gamers ,Val for Kent street, COS and running nets and merchandise. Lorraine for food on Saturday nights, Rockwizz and the 100 gamers. Alex Weir for the amazing Rockwizz night , Russ for the yearbooks, club history, photos for website , Shane for producing a great new website. Bruce for running the bar, Hulley for the efforts in getting all the teams for finals and a big thank you to the Captains – Ben, Don, PJ, Slacky, Dan, Fezz, Gus, Stuey Kaschula… Al Field and all the club captains with the Way 79 WASTCA Club championship. Page 5 PRESIDENTS REPORT “CONTINUED” Conclusion: I will not be making myself available for re-election this year. It has been a great pleasure in playing my part in what was a very successful year for the club. Whoever takes the role on I feel should continue to look after the sponsors, continue the communications and be mindful of the dealing with both the council and an increasingly vigilant WASTCA. The constant battle with mess & noise should not be a burden on the committee alone as all members should take responsibility. In order for this club to continue to move forwards, we need to be mindful of not leaving too much to too few. Please do not expect a member of the committee to be responsible for every function of the club and voluntarily assist to help at any opportunity. Regards Al Field It was a full house for the Music quiz night at the Elton & Jack Barendse pumping out Xmas show at the club. Alex Weir organised a the tunes at the Xmas show. wonderful night. The club won the Spirit of the Game Award for the first time and its very fitting the club won this award with Al Field as president. He has been president for one year but has achieved a significant amount , New Club Website , Man of Match awards returned , the famous jug sculls for achievement returned , Training nets refurbished and fielding 8 senior teams and all making the finals.
