2 forEword

Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the United Arab , Dominic Jermey

am delighted to be leading such a large British Business delegation to the Western Region. These companies represent I some of the best of British innovation and expertise. I am particularly pleased that the delegation comprises both British Business Group members and my UK Trade & Investment team. The Western Region holds many of the building blocks for the future development of the UAE, both in its people and in its natural resources and I am very impressed by the 2030 Vision for Al Gharbia. I hope that this visit will enable UK companies to not only understand the potential that the Western Region holds, but that it will give them enough understanding to want to come back again and again. We at the British Embassy in the UAE and at the British Business Group will continue to support both UK companies in expanding their business, and the Government of the UAE in fulfilling their long term vision for investment in the region.

3 FOREWORD

Peter Michelmore Chairman, British Business Group –

The British Business Group – Abu Dhabi is delighted to be associated with this event in the ’s Western Region. The initiative has been structured around two principal objectives. The relationship between Britain and Abu Dhabi is one of mutual friendship and support at all levels not only in business and commerce, but also socially. As the Emirate continues to develop and its population grows so do its social needs in the related field of education and employment. Britain has a wealth of experience in helping and supporting development of societal infrastructure, its own and that of others. We also possess an unrivalled spirit of altruism that wants to share expertise as partners in pursuit of Abu Dhabi’s success, in all of its regions, not only its major cities. Today’s event with the Higher Colleges of Technology in has been designed with this in mind. This is also an opportunity for the British Business Group to see and learn more about the opportunities to work with in some of the many commercial developments now in progress in the Western Region. Of particular interest are those in the energy sector, including oil and gas, nuclear and renewables, and in the rail sector, as well as plans for the future of the Region and its infrastructure. The Group is grateful to those of its members and to those staff and students of the Higher Colleges who have generously given of their time in support of our program of today, to the British Embassy and UKTI Team for their help and support and, of course, to the representatives of the Government of Abu Dhabi and the Western Region Administration for their interest and support.
