ith investment capital pouring into real estate projects across , the local landscape is seeing an W exciting transformation—from the massive Hudson Yards development on the West Side of to the New York Wheel, a 630-foot tall ferris wheel being built to lure tourists to Staten Island. “There is not a neighborhood that has not in one way, shape or form experienced the positive effects,” says John H. Banks III, president of the Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY).

That development is helping provide needed funds to the city to support public services. Last year, income-producing properties contributed 41 percent of all locally-generated tax revenue— amounting to more than $15 billion—via real estate taxes, transaction taxes, personal income taxes and sales taxes connected to real estate activity, according to REBNY.

Behind the hive of activity are the city’s real estate professionals, whose work will be celebrated at REBNY’s 120th Annual Banquet on January 21 at the New York Hilton. REBNY will present six awards to leaders who have had a powerful impact on New York City real estate and give a posthumous tribute to former REBNY Chairman John E. MemberMember Zuccotti.
