Joe Satriani 與steve Vai 的神乎其技(陳友信-陳彥皓-林忠村 投稿類別:藝能類 篇名: Joe Satriani 與 Steve Vai 的神乎其技 作者: 陳友信。市立高雄高工。資訊二甲 陳彥皓。市立高雄高工。資訊二甲 林忠村。市立高雄高工。資訊二甲 指導老師: 許靖卿 老師 PDF created with pdfFactory trial version www.pdffactory.com Joe Satriani 與 Steve Vai 的神乎其技 壹●前言 一、研究背景 在時代的進步下,現代人的生活充斥許多壓力,其中與人們生活息息相關的 音樂,總是帶給人許多不同感覺,有些音樂甚至帶給人舒服感,並有助於紓解壓 力。其中,高亢響亮的電吉他聲音吸引了我們,它所彈撥出來的不同的旋律帶領 我們走入不同的音樂世界,高低的音階帶領我們體會不同的風格感受,因此我們 想一探電吉他音樂大師獨創的特色與音樂學問。 二、研究目的 在台灣,電吉他演奏曲的觀眾似乎不多,但在許多地方卻能見到這類型的音 樂是多麼地流行,電吉他演奏曲不只餘音繞樑,更是許多電吉他手訓練自己演奏 能力的好教材。希望藉由本文的引薦,讓這類音樂在台灣展開一股新潮。 三、研究方法 因為此類型的作品甚多,所以我們以世界知名度較高的兩位電吉他手做為主 題,先介紹兩位大師的基本資料與經歷,其次以兩位電吉他大師的音樂做為分析 與討論的重點,再結合世人對此類型音樂的評比,最後提出我們的感受與心得, 並推薦幾首音樂讓大家嘗試聆聽。 除了非常喜愛這類型的音樂,也因為本組組員有接觸樂器的緣故,我們希望 能將自己對電吉他演奏曲的認知與看法融合網路與書籍的資料來分析與討論,讓 人們對這一片不熟悉的領域有初步的認識。 四、研究步驟 我們先在書籍與網路資訊中尋找兩位大師的基本資料與經歷,並蒐集他們有 何不同的創意作風。接著尋找兩位大師的音樂作品,並且分析其音樂主奏、背景 旋律與節奏的不同,記錄歌曲帶給我們的感受;由搜索網路其它歌迷對這首歌曲 的評價加以比較;最後將較受歡迎與悅耳動聽的歌曲記錄並推薦。 貳●正文 一、兩位電吉他大師的基本資料與經歷 1 PDF created with pdfFactory trial version www.pdffactory.com Joe Satriani 與 Steve Vai 的神乎其技 (一)、吉他手中的吉他手─Joe Satriani Joe Satriani,出生於1956年7月15日,美國多 樂器演奏家,以彈奏電吉他聞名,早期為Kirk Hammett和Steve Vai的吉他教師,因獨特的吉他技 巧而聲名大噪! Joe Satriani 受 Beatles 的影響,他開始學鼓, 14 歲因為 Jimi Hendrix 之死而放棄學鼓改學吉 他,並組了 Tarsus 樂團。 1983年發行了自己錄的專輯「Joe Satriani」。 1986年,Relativity唱片公司發行他的第一張 專輯「Not of This Earth」。 圖一、吉他巫師─ Joe Satriani 1987年,Joe Satriani發行了「Surfing with the Alien」之後才名聲遠播,並取得一 張金唱片,這是第一次吉他手僅憑演奏音樂不唱歌而獲得金唱片。 「1988年,被滾石樂隊的米克·賈格爾在第二次個人巡迴時聘為主吉他手。」( 註 一 ) 1990年,利用搖桿與泛音等技巧演奏出Flying in a Blue Dream 。 「1994年,擔任深紫的主吉他手。」(註二) 其風格主要受到藍調搖滾吉他的影響,不 過仍創造了他自己易辨的演奏風格。 1988年,Joe Satriani開始使用他的代言吉他,Ibanez JS系列,該系列在商店銷 售成績不錯。 「Joe Satriani 的"演奏風格快速但不激烈",在慢板作品的處理上別具匠心。」 (註三) 「目前他是超級樂團(Super Band)Chickenfoot的主吉他手。」(註四) 2 PDF created with pdfFactory trial version www.pdffactory.com Joe Satriani 與 Steve Vai 的神乎其技 (二)、吉他上帝─Steve Vai Steve Vai,1960年出生於紐約長島,13歲便 以吉他手的身份自己組樂團,並在Joe Satriani的 指導下,成為一代吉他英雄。 「高中畢業以後,Vai 就讀於波士頓的 Berklee 音樂學院,之後便至 Los Angeles 去尋找 自己的發跡機會。」(註五) Steve Vai 加入 Zappa 的樂團之後,擔任表演 吉他手一職,並獲得了「最天才的硬式搖滾吉他 手」的讚譽。 1984 年,Steve Vai 與 Flexi-Able 舉辦生平第 圖二、吉他之父─ Steve Vai 一次的演奏會,之後便加入當地的重金屬樂團 Alcatrazz。 1986 年,他加入了早期的 Van Halen 第一號人物 David Lee Roth 的樂團,推出 「Eat 'Em and Smile」專輯。 1988 年,Roth 專輯 Skycraper 推出後,Vai 加入了白蛇合唱團,於 1898 年的 Slip of the Tongue 專輯中擔任吉他手位置。 1990 年,發行專輯「Passion and Warfare」,倍受歡迎與讚賞。 1996 年,推出專輯「Fire Garden」,為 Steve Vai 第一張加入人聲演唱的專輯。 Steve Vai「依靠著天賦加上後天對音樂的執著,不斷研究爵士樂和古典樂的他, 擁有了讓人驚嘆的高超技藝。」(註六) 在Steve Vai的專輯中多以「硬式搖滾、重金屬」風格為主,仔細聆聽歌曲,可 聽出其中多包含爵士、放克、古典等多種感覺。 特殊的搖桿抖音技巧抖出「世界玩搖桿最有味道的吉他手」名聲。 Steve Vai就是「曾獲得包括葛萊美等無數獎項,神乎其技、極富創意的Steve Vai, 被譽為上帝。」(註七) 3 PDF created with pdfFactory trial version www.pdffactory.com Joe Satriani 與 Steve Vai 的神乎其技 二、兩位電吉他大師的音樂風格分析 (一)、Joe Satriani的歌曲 Joe Satriani 的表演不如 Vai 如此創新,但演奏的風格多變也較為輕鬆,使 聽的人可以融入不同情境之中,有些歌使人感到放鬆,有些使人感到淡淡的 悲傷,有時一首曲子就會融合多種風格。 他所彈奏的 Summer Song 讓人彷 彿置身炎炎夏日的海灘,迎面而來的 是清涼的海水,節奏較為輕快,碎點 也較為複雜,在曲子中適時加入速 彈,bass 的節奏也十分輕鬆,令人被 夏天的氣氛深深影響,不禁也會容易 跟著搖滾起來,而結尾攘人有一種意 猶未盡的感覺。 圖三、吉他巫師─ Joe Satriani Joe Satriani 的節奏較為多變,比 較重於音調的變化,速度可以很快也 可以很緩和,常常一首歌中有不同的節奏,他所演奏的 Flying In A Blue Dream 節奏較為輕快,而鼓的方面也比 Vai 的鼓手多了許多碎點。 在Joe Satriani的一些作品中,有 著 一些充滿想像空間的歌曲,也具有夢幻、 期待的感覺,例如If I Could Fly、Flying In A Blue Dream、Top Gun Theme等,是我們 百聽不厭的歌曲,聽了總是感覺自己身處在一個廣闊的空間,輕鬆自在。 (二)、Steve Vai的歌曲 Steve Vai的演奏型態較為創新,例如在The Crying Machine中加入小提琴一起演 奏、在For The Love Of God的MV中加入交響樂團,藉由不同樂器的配合表達出更多 情感並加以放大,也經常巧妙的運用效果器使音樂更加多變,風格和情感都較為 強烈。 在節奏上,Steve Vai大多數的曲目都較為狂野,其中大半也會加重於速度方 面,手指快速在弦上跳動使人十分讚嘆,並在高低音交錯快速演奏下,聽的人的 心也跟著快速起伏。他所彈奏的Bad Horsie,節奏整體上雖然不比起其他的一些曲 子節奏快速,但給人的震撼感卻非常足夠,在Bass跟鼓的重音與吉他高亢的聲音配 4 PDF created with pdfFactory trial version www.pdffactory.com Joe Satriani 與 Steve Vai 的神乎其技 合下,猶如一匹狂野的駿馬奔馳。 Steve Vai不只讓許多聽眾留下深刻印象,他的音樂耐人尋味,神奇的節奏與旋 律總會不停在腦海中打轉,音樂風格又稍偏鬱悶,主奏也總是以特別的聲音孤獨 地進行著,使我們容易在情緒低潮時深有同感,也因此有一種擄獲人心的吸引力。 三、世人對兩位電吉他大師的討論 在外國,這兩位電吉他大師可是倍受尊重, 除了他們的音樂可敬可佩,他們在音樂領域貢獻 的實在是太多了,也因此他們不但流行四處,更 有學習吉他者常說:「如果你彈吉他,你應該要 知道Joe Satriani和Steve Vai。」由此可知,他們不 是徒有虛名。 有許多歌迷認為,Joe Satrianii在技術上是出色 圖四、吉他之父─ Steve Vai 的,Steve Vai則是把音樂味道呈現得很完美,在我 們所聽到的各個作品,總是令人高潮迭起,也因此有歌迷斷言,沒有人會嘗試不 喜歡他們,因為他們實在是太卓越傑出了。 在台灣,我們周遭也有許多玩音樂的夥伴,但許多人卻連聽過他們的名聲都 沒有,介紹給許多人聽聽這兩位電吉他大師的作品,也遭到一一的反駁,他們認 為這種音樂沒有人唱歌,只有電吉他以及雜亂的速彈,單純無趣又吵雜。但有些 拍子較緩慢的作品,或是激烈彈奏而令人感受深刻的作品,仍然會被一些愛好音 樂者所讚賞。 這兩位音樂大師,不只是神乎其技的演出,更是在音樂中開發出多元化的發 展,在許多粉絲熱烈的支持下,至今他們已年過半百,仍然熱情地站在舞台彈奏 活躍的音符,博得聽眾的喝采。 四、本文論點與推薦歌曲 (一)、對兩位電吉他大師的討論與看法 Steve Vai和Joe Satriani雖然是師徒關係,但他們的風格仍有不同之處,可 能因為接觸到許多不同的音樂作品,風格才會如此多元變化,例如Steve Vai 是屬於較有「憂鬱」、「孤傲」的感覺,而Joe Satriani則是屬於較「熱情奔 5 PDF created with pdfFactory trial version www.pdffactory.com Joe Satriani 與 Steve Vai 的神乎其技 放」、「深情投入」,較能帶動觀眾的情緒。 Steve Vai因為歌曲有時過於創新,所以 我們有時仍然無法接受,甚至不知道整首 歌彈的旋律是什麼;Joe Satriani的歌曲因為 比較重視感覺,容易因氣氛影響人心,所 以比較起來,我們仍然比較喜歡Joe Satriani 的作品。 圖五、Joe Satriani與Steve Vai一起演出 (二)、聆聽分析時發現不錯的推薦曲 Steve Vai歌曲 特色 發行專輯 發行日期 極度的滄桑感,加 上激烈地速彈,使 For The Love Of Passion And 得整首歌充斥著 1993 年 7 月 God Warfare 悲傷感,也充滿著 很大的震撼力 聽起來像是節慶 Passion And Liberty 的歌曲,有種莫名 1993 年 7 月 Warfare 的歡喜與期待感 與他可愛的兒子 一同演奏,兒子的 聲音起伏為主 Ya-yo Gakk Alien Love Secrets 1995 年 3 月 唱,隨著兒子的聲 音起伏彈出相對 應的Solo 前面甚微舒服,中 間部分多為速 Tender Surrender 彈,與前面音樂呼 Alien Love Secrets 1995 年 3 月 應,整首音樂十分 震撼 利用許多推弦與 泛音,音樂起伏甚 The Crying Machine 大,整體聽起來速 Fire Garden 1996 年 9 月 度甚快,其中學問 更是深澳 Bad Horsie 瘋狂低沉的節奏 Alien Love Secrets 1997 年 4 月 6 PDF created with pdfFactory trial version www.pdffactory.com Joe Satriani 與 Steve Vai 的神乎其技 與效果器的效 果,演奏時就如一 匹瘋狂的野馬在 你面前 整體緩慢溫柔,令 人感到另類舒服 Gentle ways Sound Theories 2007 年 7 月 感,也充滿著夢幻 的感覺 (表一、Steve Vai的推薦歌曲與相關資訊) (資料來源:Yahoo音樂 http://tw.music.yahoo.com/hot/album/list.html?id=2iNKpMPs54kQUg.0F03hK08J&pg=1) Joe Satriani歌曲 特色 發行專輯 發行日期 以泛音做為主 軸,使得電吉他的 Flying In A Blue FLYING IN A 聲音在腦中不斷 1989 年 Dream BLUE DREAM 迴盪,聽起來十分 暢快 以慢慢憂愁的藍 調當為主奏,加上 Crying The Extremist 1992 年 7 月 一些段落的起 伏,令人十分感動 整首音樂充滿著 熱血,熱情如火得 Summer Song 把我們印象中的 The Extremist 1992 年 7 月 夏天以音樂表現 出來,十分搖滾 矇矓美的氣氛,且 有低音的BASS與 Until We Say 迷幻的合旋合為 Engines of Creation 2000 年 3 月 Goodbye 背景音樂,撼動人 心 輕鬆與自在感,像 是盼望某種希望 Is There Love In If I Could Fly 2004 年 8 月 的到來,充滿夢幻 Space? Brown, Advisor Between 1984 and 1991, heavy metal became one of the most publicly popular and commercially successful rock music subgenres. The focus of this dissertation is to explore the following research questions: How did the subculture of heavy metal music between 1984 and 1991 evolve and what meanings can be derived from this ongoing process? How did the contextual circumstances surrounding heavy metal music during this period impact the performative choices exhibited by artists, and from a position of retrospection, what lasting significance does this particular era of heavy metal merit today? A textual analysis of metal- related materials fostered the development of themes relating to the selective choices made and performances enacted by metal artists. These themes were then considered in terms of gender, sexuality, race, and age constructions as well as the ongoing negotiations of the metal artist within multiple performative realms. Occurring at the juncture of art and commerce, heavy metal music is a purposeful construction. Metal musicians made performative choices for serving particular aims, be it fame, wealth, or art. These same individuals worked within a greater system of influence. Metal bands were the contracted employees of record labels whose own corporate aims needed to be recognized.
