1 Route Information

1.1 History

The Lake Constance: Schaffhausen to Kreuzlingen route is part of the Swiss “Seelinie” (Lake Line) from Schaffhausen to Rorschach, the Swiss part of the train-ring around the Bodensee (Lake Constance), located in the Thurgau region. This route features the stunning part from Kreuzlingen to Schaffhausen.

The route as it is today was built in 4 segments from 1869 to 1895. Initially there were 3 Swiss train companies, who had built routes in this area. One after another, the NOB (Swiss Northeastern Railway) took over the separate parts and united them. In 1902, when Switzerland started nationalising its railway companies, SBB took over the route. They started electrifying the route in 1928, but because of its status as a branch line, it took until 1969 to complete electrification.

In the 90s, the SBB slowly started decommissioning the route, but in 1996 the MThB (Mittel- Thurgau-Bahn or Central Thurgau Railway) took over the route, and started modernising both the tracks and the trains. Then in 2002, the SBB subsidiary “Thurbo” took over the route as well as most of the rolling stock.

Today, the route is operated with modern multiple units, running every half an hour in both directions.

1.2 Route Features

 45km route from Schaffhausen to Kreuzlingen  SBB L and N type signalling system with custom designed signal models and features including: o Animated Brake Test and Abfahrbefehl (departure indicators) o Operating "Besetztes Gleis" indicators for entering occupied platforms o Three state ground signals that function correctly between main signals o Integra Signum Safety System track magnets and in-cabin equipment o Zub Safety System cabin display  Over 50 new building models to capture the unique architecture of the region  Over 200 overhead line equipment and catenary models  Custom bridge, underpass and tunnel portal models designed to accurately represent the engineering of the route  18 Highly detailed station models designed from our survey of the route  SBB RABe 526 2/8 EMU in THURBO branded livery  Authentic cab and passenger view  Driver-operated destination display system  Operable wing mirrors  Route fully configured for Quick Drive scenarios  7 x Career Scenarios including a guided tutorial for the RABe 526 locomotive  2 x Railfan Mode Scenarios
