After a great start to the season with a 2-1 win against Premier Division side Street in the FA Cup, which not only attracted a gate of 292 it also gave the club some much-needed revenue after this COVID. It also resulted in a nice sum of money for winning the game. Since that victory, we have suffered two league defeats both by 2-0. A home fixture to Portishead and away trip to Radstock definitely not how we visualised the start of the season, but these things happen in football and it’s down to us as a group to put those wrongs right. We are an honest bunch and we know ourselves that we didn’t turn up against Portishead we looked tired and leggy from the midweek heroics against Street. Against Radstock the overall performance was more pleasing than the result but poor finishing and some questionable decisions from the officials cost us dearly. Today is a chance to take our minds off getting them much needed league points to get that monkey off our back and enjoy playing higher league opposition again in the FA Cup. So enjoy your day and always remember everyone wants the underdogs to cause an upset. -

SATURDAY 31St OCTOBER Buildbase FA Trophy Rushall Olympic (A)
Good evening and a very warm welcome to the players, officials and supporters of Rushall Olympic, we do hope you enjoy your short stay with us before having a safe journey home. Rushall have made a solid start to this season’s campaign suffering only one defeat in their first 7 league games. A competitive club that are always in and around the playoffs, they will be looking to continue that form. Managed by former Barwell players, Liam Macdonald and Nick Green, they will have done their homework on us, so as ever we will be expecting a tough encounter. A well run club from top to bottom and in their second year with an artificial pitch the club is a good role model for non-league football. Both clubs know that this encounter between us will take place again at Rushall on Saturday in the Buildbase FA Trophy, it’s ironic how these consecutive fixtures seem to happen. We finally got our first win against Nuneaton Borough, which has brought a lot of relief to all connected with the club. I’m sure that will bring a lot of confidence, let’s hope we can kick on from here and get back into the mix on the league front. Finally for tonight, I’m pleased to announce that Jason Ashby owner of UK Flooring Direct has agreed to extend his sponsorship for a further 3 years with the club. He has also made a five figure donation to our fundraising effort for our 3G pitch project. History of Badminton
Facts and Records History of Badminton In 1873, the Duke of Beaufort held a lawn party at his country house in the village of Badminton, Gloucestershire. A game of Poona was played on that day and became popular among British society’s elite. The new party sport became known as “the Badminton game”. In 1877, the Bath Badminton Club was formed and developed the first official set of rules. The Badminton Association was formed at a meeting in Southsea on 13th September 1893. It was the first National Association in the world and framed the rules for the Association and for the game. The popularity of the sport increased rapidly with 300 clubs being introduced by the 1920’s. Rising to 9,000 shortly after World War Π. The International Badminton Federation (IBF) was formed in 1934 with nine founding members: England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Denmark, Holland, Canada, New Zealand and France and as a consequence the Badminton Association became the Badminton Association of England. From nine founding members, the IBF, now called the Badminton World Federation (BWF), has over 160 member countries. The future of Badminton looks bright. Badminton was officially granted Olympic status in the 1992 Barcelona Games. Indonesia was the dominant force in that first Olympic tournament, winning two golds, a silver and a bronze; the country’s first Olympic medals in its history. More than 1.1 billion people watched the 1992 Olympic Badminton competition on television. Eight years later, and more than a century after introducing Badminton to the world, Britain claimed their first medal in the Olympics when Simon Archer and Jo Goode achieved Mixed Doubles Bronze in Sydney. -

Calendar 26-30/10 – Half Term News Edition 143 30/11/15 – INSET Day Monday 5h October 2015 Welcome to Edition 143 Dear All It has been a busy start to the school year for our students. Year 11 have participated in a careers fair which enabled them to find out more information about the choices open to them next September; there is further information about open evenings for colleges later in the newsletter. On the sporting field, the Year 8 Rugby team have had a very successful start to the year, with a resounding 47-19 victory over Honywood and Year 11 continued this success off the field, winning the Gosfield Enterprise challenge. Over the last two weeks we have hosted a variety of events for the parents of Year 6 students, including visits to primary schools. The feedback from all of these events has been extremely complimentary about the behaviour and attitude of our students. Thank you to all those students who have helped at one of these events. As the weather begins to turn, can I ask that you encourage your son or daughter to bring their coat with them on rainy days, and store them in their lockers, as this will help ensure they arrive at school ready to learn. Firstly, our annual Open Evening, opening our doors to existing and prospective families. It was a fantastic opportunity for the parents of our prospective Year 6 students to see the school in action and the amazing opportunities we have to offer.
